  1. And, by the way, it certainly didn't hurt that Kliff had Welker and Harrell had Crabtree. In both instances, the wideout was certainly better than the QB.
  2. Will be similar starts then. Patrick got a late start as a freshman. And he can't help if his team wasn't as good as Graham had. He will have most of the records IMO. And I will predict he will be in the league much longer than Harrell with a chance to actually be productive there. Although Graham did provide some comic relief when he had to play briefly there.
  3. Full disclosure: his old man and I are the same age and grew up in the same part of the state. Played against each other in some sports and with each other in one in summer ball. Pat was 1st team all state in the big 3 as a QB, guard, and pitcher. Led the state in scoring in 3A in hoops and was drafted out of high school in baseball. Spent over a decade in the show as a middle inning reliever. Patrick was also a 3 sport star. His dad was a better hooper and turned into a better pitcher (although Patrick was probably close in HS). But it is no contest in football. If he wasn't at Tech, he would probably be on most Heisman watch lists right now. Kid is something special.
  4. Just watch when it's all said and done. He's got their ability to read defenses, better arm, and way more athleticism. The benefit he has, as they did, is he will be a 4 year starter (barring injury). BJ Symons was IMO the most athletic QB prior to Patrick. He just had to wait too long to get on the field. Mahomes is the real deal and will go down as their best. Again, if he stays healthy. You can agree with me in 3 years ;)
  5. now that's a fact!
  6. It's gonna happen. Sometimes you care enough about a kid that it's more important than your alma mater. It will only be for 4 years tops but this kid is one of my favorites. Up there with Laquarious Paige out of WOS. Go Sycamores.
  7. Buddy, is Dauphine redshirting? Really looking forward to him and Mahomes in the backfield together. Speaking of, Patrick has been Big 12 player of the week 3 weeks in a row (last week of last season and first 2 this year). Something like 1400 yards passing, and 18 tds against 2 picks. This kid will end up being the best QB Tech ever had and will be interesting to watch against the Arky D. Put it this way, he is better than OU's and VT's starting QBs who transferred out of Lubbock. And Stidham made a wise decision going to Baylor because I don't think he would have seen the field until his 4th year on campus.
  8. He is putting a very young team on the field, especially on defense. I have a bad feeling Saturday may be ugly. Sonny Dykes is an offensive guru (ask Mike Leach) and I can assure you their QB is better than Rice's backup who looked like Aaron Rodgers against us in the 4th quarter. I'm still not sure whether Charlie will get us where we need to be or not. I have a lot of respect for the man and am rooting for him. But with a school with Texas' resources, you don't have a decade to turn it around. The leash is pretty short when you have guys used to winning and will make money no object to make that happen.
  9. Also as nice a guy as you will meet. I have a year left but beginning next season, I am going to be forced to be an Aggie basketball fan. You guys have a point guard coming in that is something special and I just can't root against. I am glad he has a year left in HS and won't be on the floor when we play each other in the Bahamas. I would have really had a rough time with that game.
  10. The biggest problem in beating Central is that they easily have the 2 best players in the district, before the 7'3" kid was even in the picture.
  11. It is true. Not this renovation but a prior one. Spend more time on aggy sites and less time on Longhorn ones and I am sure you can verify this...
  12. I agree but the last class was phenomenal and have already gotten a couple of key commitments out of this year's HS seniors. If Kennedy is worth his salt, they are going to be a very tough team come tournament time, especially next season. Stansbury on the other hand is the all time winningest coach at Miss St. and retired from there. He can flat out coach and recruit. So can't hurt having him beside you on the bench. Hopefully Kennedy will ask and heed his advice often.
  13. You joke, but this is one of the ways aggy increased capacity at Kyle Field several years ago, trying to keep up with the Joneses.
  14. Not quite the 50 but I do have excellent seats. Unfortunately, they are a little more pricey than their counterparts at the newly refurbished Kyle in Gomerville.
  15. In all fairness, there isn't much time to do that when he has to spend so much of his trying to figure out how to change the channel from the LHN after he "accidentally" lands there...
  16. Poor aggy Mack. Another "look at me! Look at me!" post in a Charlie Strong thread. But congrats on adding some shelves to the tackle box. The pee pee envy is strong with Mack, my friends...
  17. Actually it was SEC commissioner Slive who didn't trust the Aggies to get it done against Texas. Arkansas was the hotter team and he wanted badly to win that game to strengthen his conference's position in this state. You can't argue with the move, given the result, but the way Texas played that day, I doubt it would have mattered which team he chose.
  18. I will be in attendance. I hope I have reason to stay until the end.
  19. He has also removed his name from consideration for Secretary-General of the United Nations ;)
  20. I agree with Duke at the top and UK 2. I also think Shaka will have the Horns competing at a high level very quickly. I would have A&M on this list actually. I would be surprised, with the recent recruiting, if they aren't a sweet 16, Elite 8 type team in the next 2-3 years. If they aren't, Kennedy needs to be gone. The upside is that his top assistant, Rick Stansbury, is not only a top notch recruiter but a great Xs and Os guy IMO.
  21. I would much rather have Jurich than Luck. Luck is a UT Law grad who really wanted the job and was all but promised it. Then he gets the rug yanked from under him (supposedly over being reluctant to fire Mack). So they hire another UT Law grad in Patterson. Whether Luck still would want the job is doubtful. But even still, my belief is the number one target is and should be Tom Jurich.
  22. I am sure Patterson is embarrassed and he should be. I completely understand a coach not wanting so spend a lot of time sucking up to the BMDs because they have a job to do on the field. But a big part of the ADs job, especially at a place like Texas, is keeping the billionaires happy. I mean, how many opposing band tickets do you have to sell to make up for the kind of money Red McCombs and Joe Jamail give UT? The answer is none of us will live long enough for those $100 seats to make a dent in those donors contributions. Heck, even Beaumont has a guy who has given well into the 8 figures to the University. And he could pick up the phone at any time and you can bet your bottom that Deloss would answer. The weird part is that Patterson was an alum and you would think he would have understood how things work. As Aces said, just glad they didn't waste time and got it done now. He was never, ever going to work out in this position. I was told again today that Fenves was assured he needn't worry about the buyout. I will not be surprised at all if some measure of payback will not be instituted and make Patterson work and pay for whatever he gets (keep in mind he has infuriated many power players in this state). But ultimately, certain donors have stepped up and said they will gladly cut the final check to get him out of Belmont.
  23. I'm told the other kid may have more upside on the gridiron. More Okoye than Olajawon.
  24. That reference was made for stevenash. Ain't nothin' Nash loves more than a funky beat...
  25. everybody is arguing and everybody is correct. To me the biggest two plays which were the difference in the game were Daje and Duke's punt returns. One was a TD and the other set up first and goal. Without them, we might have lost. Special teams is also a part of the game just like offense and defense. And often times special teams has a huge bearing on who wins.
