  1. No doubt Angleton has better kids, but a sound fundamental coach that can teach kids to block the right person and line up right can make a bad team relatively competitive.  I dont think Alvin will ever be a power house in football because the ethnicity in Alvin is a huge factor but they do have some good hard nose blue collar kids that can easily go 5-5 and slip into the playoffs every other year.

  2. They had to hire someone to save face.  Teykl had some really good years at Terry.  If the former coach had a clue how to run the wing T it can be a successful offense.  Angleton goes to the playoffs every year and runs the same offense.  But Hardin couldn't even line up right.  Hopefully this guy will invest in the community, hire some good coordinators and win some games next year

  3. Nope he didnt decline, again why would he have declined a job he applied for 2 years in a row ?Kirk Botkin was the guy he coached in HS.  I really hope the school board does the right thing and gets rid of this AD before he does anymore damage.  Meanwhile in Stinkadena...

  4. Wouldnt you after you have been turned down 2 years in a row for a lesser choice?  Last year was the joke from Cy wherever who blessed us with an 0-10 season and this year he was passed over by the AD so he could hire some guy he coached in high school.  I hope he takes the job and gets Alvin on the schedule and beats the brakes off of us, but here in the big A the collusion continues. Meanwhile even Stinkadena is smart enough to know when to hire a good coach.

  5. Correct that was a hire by the superintendent but I highly doubt AD stood up and said that he disagreed with it.  I'm sure he just tucked his tail.  That being said he had a chance to make it right this year by hiring the Fwood DC but like always, just couldn't do the right thing for Alvin.  But you just keep on defending him Lancaster

  6. Hearing that both coaches turned it down because the AD was forcing them to hire his kid as a coordinator.  I really hope the school board grows a pair and gets rid of this clown.  He has done nothing for Alvin but run them into the ground.  Had a shot at the  Friendswood defensive coordinator two years in a row and passed on him for a guy who went 0-10 this year and now trying to hire someone to push his son onto.  Glad Van didn't take it, I feel sorry for those kids at  Alvin, cause it looks like 0-20 is in their future.

  7. Hey Tom Evans, you sir are a troll, if you anything about match ups or even baseball in general then you wouldn't have made your idiotic comment.  Im sure Colmesneil took their licks in Game 2 so they would have a chance in game 3.  Im sure you are just a disgruntled parent who never even played the game.  Anyways congrats Coach Hooker you did a great job knocking off the #1 team in Texas, don't listen to any of those backwoods idiots.

  8. Most of the bigger schools like WOS will allow their football players to go to baseball once football is over.  The problem I described really exists at the small school level, and coming from a 6A school it was very eye opening to see.  The problem does exist at big schools as well though.  I had the opportunity to work for one of best baseball coaches in Texas high school history, he had over 500 wins.  We were at a school that was terrible at football and great in baseball.  We had a new supt.and head football coach come in and the next thing I know he was reassigned.  They said he was a detriment to the football program.  True story, made me sick.

  9. Most "real baseball coaches" who aren't die hard football coaches that coach baseball in the spring want to be at a school that has an AD who will support and back the baseball program.  The problem is most AD's are so worried about winning in football that all other programs fall second to baseball.  Most small schools don't let athletes practice baseball during baseball season, I know at my school last year my number two pitcher was throwing two hundred footballs during the athletic period and mind you we were in the 2nd round of the playoffs.  Schools that have AD's that actually care about baseball programs are far and few between.  There are some AD's that force their football players to run track which is right in the middle of baseball season so that takes precedence over baseball and those kids don't get to baseball until after 5:00.  As a high school baseball coach I learned very quickly that baseball coaches are very expendable and in order to stay at one place for a long time you have to be winning in football and make sure that you and your AD are on the same page.  Its sad but true
