  1. You can pull up all the stats you want to, but the only stat that matters is W'S & L'S.
Spin it anyway you want to.

"Number 1 rush/pass defense". Congrats, but you still got smoked.
"Number 1 rushing offense". Good for yall, but guess what, just another L.

I'm sure those patches will look great on the letter jackets.

Last time I checked, they dont give out trophies for statistical champions.

  2. Give me a break.

"We beat Team A by this much. Ya'll only beat Team A by this much.  We outgained Team B by this many yards. Ya'll only outgained Team B by this many yards. We have this many first downs this year, and ya'll only have this many first downs. "

So, obviously Barbers Hill is the better team. Why would the Broncos even show up. HAHA

I'm sorry, but the transitive property does not apply to football. If Team A beat Team B and Team B beat Team C, then obviously, Team A will beat Team C. This is crazy!

  3. Hawkeye,

It's not really rah rah stuff when you're talking about confidence and believing. It's just the way it is. That's the way it's been ever since Jerry Stewart arrived in Dayton.

There is no question Dayton had talented players prior to his arrival, but he instilled a certain confidence in players. We believed we were going to be successful, even before some of us had taken a single snap as varsity players.

That swagger and confidence has carried over through the years. Even with him "retiring", that level of confidence still remains. There are times when a team is beat as soon as they see the horseshoe on the helmet.

Also, a lot can been said for the fear of defeat. I guarantee no senior class wants to be the one that breaks the playoff streak.

Finally, I'm not sure if another QB has worn #7 since I graduated. I think a Carranco (sp?) has been #7 since I left. Thanks for the welcoming words. What I would give to strap it up one more time.
  4. I've been lurking on here for a little while now, and I figured I'd make my first post this morning.

I really enjoy reading the game threads. It helps me keep up with the Broncos from Louisiana. As a former player, I'm glad this was not around when I played. Y'all would've ripped me apart. Lol

The difference between good teams and average teams, good teams find a way to win when they aren't there best. They win 2 out of the 3 fases of the game. Whether it be offense and defense, special teams and offense, or like last night defense and special teams. Only the really special teams win all 3 every Friday night.  Remember these are kids, and they are going to have off nights. Finding a way to win is what matters, especially in district play. Survive and move on.

Remember this offense is relatively young. First year QB, and a crop of sophomores at different skill positions. The passing game will come. Right now you won't see a lot of timing routes, ie. comebacks, curls, and out routes. What you are see is a QB making one read and if it is not there he is trying to get out of the pocket to scramble. He is not keeping his eyes downfield for the play to develope. Once his first read is gone his eyes seem to immediately look at the rush coming at him. This will come with experience. Unfortunately he is a senior, so the development will have to be quick as we move to the playoffs.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to get my point across. This team will be fine, and they should make a good run. A lot can be said for confidence and swagger. When a team goes out knowing they are going to win, more often than not, they do.
