1. I think many of us live in a world brought up on american fable and expect our real lives to parallel with our historical and sports  heroes. No one is innocent. Babe Ruth, a great american sports hero was no saint. The guy chased a fan once into the bleachers. Do I hold this against him? Nope! He was human. We all make mistakes. The key is to learn from your mistakes and never make the same mistake twice.
 2.
Locally, we only have two 5A's and seven 4A's. (unless of course you include North Shore, Baytown Sterling, Livingston and any of the 19-4A teams). To complete a 16 team field you would need to add 7 more teams. Other than HJ, Silsbee, WOS and HF, who else would fill out the brackets?
Doubt if HJ will be a serious contender next year. Probably should scratch them off the list
More than likely would draw better crowds with more locals. I just don't see it happening because some of the smaller schools just do not want to play the local 5A and 4A teams.
I don't think the smaller schools should play. It should be a competitive tourney and not watered down. There will be enough watered down teams in 4& 5A
 4. Yates' current district is so weak, it won't matter if they 3-A or 4-A. They will still play on a much larger venue than HJ or Silsbee's schedule put together :D
I think a big reason that Silsbee beat HYCA so easily this year is bc HYCA does not see the press very often, and they don't have a coach per se. I don't remember if Central pressed them or not, but HYCA beat Central by quite a bit. HCYA has a couple of D1 players, and they have beat some good teams this year. However, they were not prepared for the press whatsoever.
They should have been. Their pg is use to pressure and they have enough bigs to throw over the top to them.
 12.
Im not as computer literate as Dove, so I dont know how to capture his question to me earlier in this thread, but I will answer his question....I have been to 6 BISD basketball games this year.  Now, as to the original question posed, I asked a former military man that I know and they did it like this:  if the person, in the military is "under cover" which means wearing a hat of any kind, then they saluted.  It they were not "under cover" they came to attention without saluting.  I have seen several people do this and now I know why they do it this way.  I have always been taught to take off my hat, stand and face the flag, place my hand over my heart (non-military salute) and sing....I must admit that I dont sing.
Ah, so you choose not to sing? Is that leaning towards being un-American and lack of respect?
 13.
That is for sure.  The only advantage I have is that I know what I don't know.
Okay thats it! Dementia as set in as suspected ;)
 14.
Here is a theory on this topic.  In a city like Beaumont, and with BISD's transfer rules, a kid can be attending a school out if his attendance zone, and he may be at a different school than his neighbor.  There is less of an allegiance than there might be otherwise.  I attended a lot of BISD middle school basketball games, football games, and even track meets last year.  I saw a lot of kids at one school in 7th grade, then at a different school in 8th grade.  Don't know the reasons, but it happens a lot.  Vincent, Marshall, Odom, King - where are all these kids going to high school?  In other words, a kid may not grow up being a "Bruin", a "Panther", or a "Jaguar".  At these middle school games, the attendance was spotty, cheerleaders may or may not be there, definitely no band, etc. I attended a Henderson middle school (HJ) football game, and was amazed to see cheerleaders for both 7th & 8th grade games, a band in the stands, a drill team, decent attendance in the stands, etc.  All this at a middle school football game! Guess what, HJ is not a great football district, right? I pointed out the difference to some HJ people there, and the answer was "all of these kids are Hawks, and they always will be".  There was a lot of pride in the statement. Could it be that the smaller towns/areas are different altogether because of this?  Nederland kids are raised as Bulldogs, to dislike PNG, etc.  Beaumont kids are raised as what?  My point is, it's just different.  Not sure of the answer, but I think this may be the reason.
You're beginning to make sense too! Scary!

 18.
Yes, Larry is my man.  Probably definitely the exception rather than the rule.  It also doesnt hurt to be a good shooter and 6'9'' coming out of high school.  James Gulley had a good career at Lamar battlling players like Karl Malone and he came from little old Newton.  But you are probably right about "the system".  If the guy who runs the system insists that you buy into it, perhaps it means giving up some of that other stuff that might get you noticed. By the way Dove, some of my most brilliant predictive efforts came in those days when I told people that after watching Karl Malone and Joe Dumars come play against Lamar that neither one of then would make it in the NBA.  Looks like I was just slightly off on those predictions.
Yeah, just goes to show we can't depend on your player evaluations ;)
 19. Discipline! HJ players know what their limitations are and know its not allowed within their system. Typical HJ kid is not going to try and do a 360 dunk, knowing he can't even lift off the floor......just using examples ;D If HJ has 6'10" kid, he's not going to shoot 3's....just an example HJ peeps ;D If there are 2minutes left in the game and HJ has a 5 point lead. The HJ players knows the clock is his friend and will pull the ball out. He's not worried about that wide open shot that would pad his scoring.

Their not the most athletic teams B.  Their players very seldom make it to the next level in major D-1 programs C.  Their programs win consistently D. Have youth programs in place ( not really sure what *major* factor plays into this) E. Players have bought into the system (major factor) F.  Players understand their roles on the team. Some are better rebounders, defense, etc(major factor)
Careful there, Dove.  Someone might get the idea that you like/respect HJ.  Maybe part of the reason nobody goes D-1 from those schools is that their main objective is for the team to do well rather than to make a player or two major college material not to mention the fact that it doesnt happen in small towns very often.
hUH? Larry Bird! Your man!!!! French Lick, Indiana!  C'mon, I need a better answer than that. I think it boils down to the *fact* that you guys have a system in place where the kids believe in the HJ system. And those that don't [s]move back to Liberty.[/s]..errrr ..... move on! :D
