When was the last time Woodville won a district title in football?

Trash? Lol wow. Last time I checked, "trash" teams didn't come anywhere near making the playoffs. Ya know, like Woodville did in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012. Not to mention a district championship in 2005 and a playoff win over the #14 ranked team in the state at the time, New Waverly, in 2010. I know we aren't dominant year in and year out but geez. Lol someone sounds bitter.

Coach Lock was there in 2004, 2005, and 2006 and ran into Newton every year in the playoffs. In 04, Newton lost in the finals and in 05 they won the State.Title..  If I remember correctly he left because He was NOT the AD and felt that his hands were tied because of off-season structure and staff.. 

It's been decided.. I found out from one of the finalists... He was call by JISD last night and told Barbay was the man!! Congrats to Kevin!!

Heard the job has been officially offered to the Anahuac Coach!!

Heard today someone gets informed that they are the new top dawg in Jasper... Good luck to the final 4!!!

Great post BBallgod!  You are right about Paul Pewitt, they have great athletes.  They have one in the NFL and the year they went to state they had a kid who was the Offensive and Defensive POY for the state.  One of the best high schoolers I have ever seen.  He won't have that luxery at Orangefield. 

I'm not sure what was said in the Phillips/Welch phone conversation but the guy has the best resume of anyone.  He was at Waller for 18 yrs. so its not like he moves around a lot.  I've heard he's the type of guy that does things his way, he's a big guy with a strong personality, and he won't back down from pressure.  Maybe that has something to do with it too.

I would like to see them get someone with experience, but if they pass on that, I hope they get someone like Faust who has been in larger schools, worked for some very good coaches and has some good ideas.  If a guy has never been a head coach I would look at who he has worked for in the past, thats a good indicator of how he might operate.  Faust has worked for some really good guys at a higher level, and guys like Bolton have worked for Theriot, Moody and the likes.

elgin was in the playoffs in 06.. this is one of the best senior classes to ever come through there... I don't that is such a big feat in that weak district....but congrats to them anyway..

Coach Lauve has led his Elgin team into the playoffs. No small feat from what I heard.  He has that program turned around and  headed in the right direction.  They will face Montgomery in the first round. He always shined in the playoffs for Jasper and had a nack of geting his team to peak at the right time...

i beg to differ.... woodville won regional in powerlifting and has very good weight program and has had it for several years now..

tell them to show up friday night and take notes.. not really, I think that it is a combination of everything listed.  There is big difference between basketball and track athlete and a football athlete.    I dont know if things have changed much since 2001 but I worked in the area and was around the school alot and Woodville does not have the weight and training program that schools like Kirbyville and Newton does.  If you have Coaches in place that can manage such a program, do the homework it takes to prepare the kids for each friday night to where they know what to expect and what is expected of them then they will respond accordingly.  This does not always mean you will win because there is always better teams out there, but itll limit the amount of people starting threads that are titled IS WOODVILLE REALLY THAT BAD!!
