  1. Guys, The only thing wrong with WH is injuries plain and simple. When you lose a very good running back and you QB it is always crippling, but when you are a 1-a school it is devastating. The oilers are lucky to have Copeland to step in,but they will be so much better when Letsinger is out their also. These kids have alot of potential and when they get healthy they are gonna be hard to beat in their district.I don,t think they will go very deep in the playoffs because Alto is a monster.Having seen both WH and Groveton play I don,t know how Groveton beat them as bad as they did.Anyway my top 3. 1.WH 2.HD 3.Evadale
  2. I wasn't downing Spurgers Varsity.I actually really like their coach and know they will be pretty good this year.Their 2 big guys Whittaker and Sheffield are definitely their strengths.I have watched them all summer and their backcourt is not nearly as stong as last years. They do have some kids who can shoot the 3 but they are not anywhere near the best pure shooters in the area, overall I think they have a playoff caliber club but I'm not sure what district they will be in this year.Big Sandy will be pretty solid but Broaddus and Evadale will be down a bit.Not sure about Burkeville.Spurgers biggest challenge is going to be staying out of foul trouble if the officials let them bang they will be fine.If not they aren't real deep.
  3. Vfootball, This didn't have anything to do with Vidor,I was just asking opinions on overall power of SE TEXAS teams.I just don't see our area this year as being real strong.Very competetive yes but after WOS and Newton I think we get pretty average in a hurry.Hope I'M wrong I would love to see some of these teams go deep in the playoffs.
  4. In a close game like this it's the little things that make the difference, penalties, turnovers etc.I like E/C for 3 reasons.Strength of schedule, bye week and their playing at home.E/C by 10.
  5. WOS win this one ,but KBVL walks away with a whole lot more respect than they have now.I have been saying all year that KBVL was the most underated team in the area.Hooks is a great coach but the KBVL guy works miracles with a whole lot less talent. Not knocking Kbvl ,they are starting to build a tradition and WOS has been established for years. If you look where this KBVL program came from the job they have done is amazing.I am picking WOS but gotta yell for the underdog.
  6. At the halfway point of the season how strong is Southeast Texas football this year? Are the teams really equal or just very inconsistant?Any deep playoff runs from our corner this year?Overall I think we are down this year,WOS seems to be strong again and will make a run in 3-a,E/C looks good in 2-a.Newton has lost some but playing a tough schedule,Deweyville looks good but will get their first test next week. The big schools aren't going far outside this area.Whats yalls opinion on everyone else?
  7. I was glad to see the kids playing hard after an ot loss a 1 point last second loss and a 2pt loss I didn't know how they would come out and play.Sure need to fix the turnover problem.Deweyville turned some heads tonite, they may be the favorite for the second spot now.
  8. Probably the worst game we have played this year.Tons of turnovers and penalties but a win is a win.We finally kicked an extra point
  9. Warren scheduled E/C this year.I know their not offended.I think it makes both teams play harder. It's up to the coach to keep the kids focused.
  10. Travis McBee from Warren is one the best defensive players in the area.He is a junior and is totally overlooked but may be Warrens best defensive player.Brody Parker is also solid in that class.
  11. We would be 4-0 in Warren if we could kick a 5 or 7 yarder,if we could kick a 57 yarder it would be party time in Tyler County.
  12. The young man from Anahuac is a great running back, but it is unrealistic to expect much after a major knee injury and just 4 months of rehab.
  13. I think E/C has certainly proven themselves as the favorite. The rest of the picture is not any clearer to me than it was 4 weeks ago.Buna and Anahuac seem to be Jekyl and Hyde, just depends on who shows up. Hardin and Warren are both having trouble finding a way to win but are playing teams very close. Deweyville is undefeated but anyone in this district would be with their schedule and Kountze is definitely better than they have been in the past.So here are my playoff picks. 1.E/C 2.Deweyville 3.Warren 4.Buna 5.Anahuac 6.Hardin 7.Kountze I think you get throw the 2 thru 7 picks out of a sack and be just as close. What does everyone else think?
  14. This is absolutely the most attention anyone has ever gotten for playing Cathedral,Evadale,High Island and Burkeville.Enough is enough let the kids get on with the rest of their season. This district is gonna be wide open for the 2 and 3 spots.E/C LOOKS TO HAVE THE 1 LOCKED UP.
  15. Same story 3rd week.Warren scores go ahead touchdown with 51 seconds and the extra point hits the upright.Groveton ties it with 1 second left and wins it with the kick. These kids from Warren are playing tough just getting beat by a whisker. We haven't kicked an extra point this year and have lost 1 game by 2,1 by 1 and 1 in overtime. We're about due a break.Geez
  16. I think you gotta go past the 80's to get the best players. From Warren John Elliott-RB/DL-UNIV OF TEXAS/NY JETS Jessie Wolf-DL/OL-Prarie View/Miami Dolphins James Wolf-FB/LB-Prarie View/NFL(not sure which team) Bruce Flebbe-RB-COULD HAVE PLAYED PRO BALL(FASSSSSSSTTTTTT) Bucky White-CB-Houston Oilers These are all old school guys, but man they could play.
  17. Lumberton wins this one big 28-7.Nothing more dangerous than a young team with a little confidence.
  18. They will be pretty solid this year. Not quite as good as last year simply because the lost their PG(Johnny Whittaker)His little brother is developing into a pretty solid post player along with the Sheffield kid.I don't think they will be real strong in the backcourt but overall a pretty good 1-a school team. They don't play football so they will be a little bit ahead of most of the other1-a clubs around southeast texas.I was surprised they were not a playoff team last year, they had a lot of potential.
  19. In a perfect world I would agree with you,but we don't live in a perfect world. There are a tremendous amount of parents today that don't have a clue where their kids are at must less what they are doing there.I don't see this as an attempt to get Johnny football player.I see it as a way to insure a kids can lead a healthy productive life when they get so old and fat they can't do anything but get on these message boards.
  20. Hate to offend anyone, but "no one" shows up again this week.No plays to stop speed, you either got it or you aint.E/C got it I'll take them by 14.
  21. The schedule or the score in no way should be a reflection on the kids. The kids prepare all week to play. If substitutions are made you can't tell your second teamers not to try and score. They have worked just as hard as the starters. While I don't know any of the Deweyville coaches I don't think they forcasted 60 point wins when they made their schedule. They are probably wishing they had a little stiffer competiton but you play whats on the board.Iknow from experience, several years ago our kids went in undefeated to play E/C and got thumped. But that is not a reflection on the kids just part of life in small classification football.
  22. We need to work on our kicking game.Warren has lost 2 games this year 1 in ot and 1 by 2 points. We have yet to make an extra point. In our ot loss we missed 1 extra point and ran 4 plays from inside the 3 and did not score. In our 2 point loss we had 6 trips inside the 10 and did not score. Not a knock on the kicker just need to work on it a little more to get the confidence back.
