  1. As schools find money getting tighter I think you will see what some districts do as some districts in other states are are doing.  That is pay to play.  Here is just one article I found on this. [Hidden Content] I have some friends in Illinois that had to pay $150.00 a year for their boys to play football and $100.00 a year for them to play baseball and that was several years ago.
  2. I am hearing that Wheeler and his mom are uncomfortable about him going to that big of a college.  I really think he ends up at TCU, that is where his brother is at from what I have heard.
  3. A good write up on Coach Bellard. [Hidden Content]
  4. He was at the UT Junior Day last weekend and was given an offer.  I understand Auburn is also looking at him and will probably give him an offer.
  5. Falconfantic is correct in how they vote for all state.  It is up to the coaches to summit the stats each week.  If a school or coach does not summit stats and that happens a lot at smaller division schools players don't really get mentioned a lot.  Not the best system in the world, but the only one they have.
  6. I don't think they completely stopped Shipley. He had 13 catches for 161 yards and a touchdown.  Not to bad of a night.  The Carthage coach said, while Shipley got his, the key to the win was keeping Brownwoods offense off the field and I think Carthage just had to much running game.
  7. Here an article I found about the Wimberley QB. [Hidden Content]
  8. San Angelo Stadium holds between 17,000 and 18,000.  It is horse shoe shaped, but the top of the show is a grassy knoll unless they have put seats there since the last time I was at the stadium.
  9. I am quite a bit older than most of the quys on here, but the memories are just like yesterday.  I remember the adults would alway wear their Sunday best to the games.  Men in dress shirt and tie.  The victory dances in the school gym after the game and the cheers we would get when we walked into the gym.  One of the things that comes to mind was going to the barbershop on Saturday morning and all the old men patting you on the back and telling great game, whether you had a great game or not.  I think my fondest memory is of the guys I played with.  Most of us still get together every year to celebrate those years.  This last year at our 45th reunion the school had a pep rally for us to celebrate our state championships.  Those years are something I will always cherish.
  10. 08-09 and earlier were before Shipley got there.  The couple of coaches before him had kind of a tough time because he had to follow Gordon Woods and 7 state championships.  Good men but couldn't live up to the expectations.
  11. I think this says it all why Brownwood ran up the score. "The Hawks (8-3) threw everything they could at the Lions, including a few things they shouldn’t have. Iowa {Park was flagged 12 times for 124 yards, including seven personal fouls, one of which led to the ejection of Kris Tucker. A spearing penalty less than five minutes into the game brought Brownwood coach Bob Shipley onto the field. “There were some late hits,” Shipley said. “I told their coach if they would stop hitting us late and stuff like that, we’d stop scoring. That didn’t happen."
  12. I agree with Lefty.  Burnet was the favorite two years in a row when Stephen McGee and Jordan Shipley were there and got beat in the finals both times.  The futher you get the tougher it gets on everyone.  Someone said, shut down Shipley and you stop Brownwood.  Most games they only throw to him 3 to 5 times because of the double and triple teams.  When they do throw it is usually a fly pattern, very seldom in traffic.  His speed is better than Jordan's was at that age and I think his route running is better.  He is very good, but they have 3 other players that are already committed to D1 schools in football.  There QB is going to college on a baseball scholarship.
  13. Didn't see this earlier.  Here is the write up from the game.  I have been to a couple of Bwood games.  My brother and parents live in Brownwood.  They are fun to watch.  Kind of a high school version of Oregon on offense. [Hidden Content]
  14. Early in the Brownwood game an Iowa Park player tried to take Jaxon Shipley out with a hit after the whistle.  It really pissed Coach Shipley off, so he left his first offense in the whole game for the first time this season.  The following is a write up in the Abilene paper. [Hidden Content]
  15. I think Wimberly, Sealy, and Brownwood will all be Div 2.  Brownwood has around 900 enrollment (3rd largest in their district)  even though they have 18,000 population.  That said, they have a high school for the gifted that does not play sports.  That enrollment counts seperate if I am not mistaken.  Celina may be Div 2 also.  Their enrollment is in the 600's I think.
  16. Lovejoy will be D1.  They had over 1,000 at realignment time.  That is the school that has grown to around 1300 or 1400 since realignment.  It is in the DFW area.
  17. The way the Brownwood District is looking right now, they may be Div 1 in the playoffs, so they and Kirbyville may not have the chance to meet.  It would be an interesting game to watch.  The other interesting thing I noticed was the when the 25 second clock starts, their goal is to snap the ball before it gets to 20 seconds.  It is pretty effective in keeping the other team from subbing between plays.
  18. Saw Brownwood play last Friday.  The amazing thing is that the other team punted every punt out of bounds and pouch kicked any kickoffs to keep it away from Shipley.  Shipley has returned 6 for tds this year.  Big Spring double and triple teamed him all night and he still caught 6 for over a hundred yards.  I was really impressed.  The other thing that go me was they do not play anyone both ways and suited up over 60 players.
  19. Saw the Brownwood vs Ft Worth All Saints (#2 TAPPS school in state) game.  Jaxon Shipley had 10 catches for over 200 yards and 3 TDs and they were double teaming him all night.  I think he is faster than his brother was at this stage.
  20. My brother was at the game and said Brownwood looked like it was playing 7on7 when they were on offense.  Shipley had 4 td catches.  One while being triple teamed.
  21. 20 out of 22 starters back from Regional Finalist last year.  3A school and only 1 maybe 2 players play both ways.  I think they are the real deal this year.
  22. 3A Brownwood 49 4A Stephenville 16 final.  Thought some might be interested
  23. I have spent a lot of time in West Texas and have had the chance to see a number of 6-man games.  From a fans point of view they are a lot of fun to watch.  There are even a number of 6-man schools out west that have turf fields.
  24. Hudson made the decision several years ago not to start a football program mainly because of the expense.  Just think build practice facilities,  a stadium,  equip all kids from 7th grade up, and hire a coaching staff.  I have never put a pencil to it, but I am sure you are talking several million dollars just to start up.  The voters of that area did not want to spend the money.
