  1. My understanding is that they are nominated by the local sportswriters, hence the "Sportwriter's All State Team." So it is up to the newspapers that cover those teams to nominate. The Orange Leader covers Orange County teams so that is why our sportswriters didn't nominate Rhodes. He should have been nominated by someone that covers Kirbyville, whoever that would be.

Unless the local sportswriters belong to the Associated Press, then they don't have a vote.  TSWA (Texas Sports Writers Assn) poll hasn't come out yet.

  2. As I stated on the 2A All State thread, its as if to justify their "AP" polls.  They picked Canadian, Elysian Feilds, Tatum, and Crane etc... and then Bam! Those teams load up with all state picks.  Not just a coincidence.  They mystify me annually.

LOL!  That wasn't the case with the 3A selections.

  3. I searched around a little, went to the Austin Statesman website and printed out the most recent articles about Giddings.  ALL articles mention Fitzhenry...(LaGrange...he rushed for 232 yards, Navasota...he rushed for 143 yards, Caldwell...he rushed for 227 yards, Smithville...he rushed for 187 yards)  This is a QUARTERBACK people and he is RUNNING, not throwing.  He has scored more touchdowns than the rest of the team combined.  He either has a heckuva o-line or there is no defense on the teams they have played.  (And THAT is hard for me to believe).

Oh, hello!  I could've told you that if you had asked nicely.  ;)  I've been told it's a "read" offense, for whatever that's worth.  I'm sure the 'Stangs coaches will have a plan of attack.

From what I saw last year, the offense is much different with Locke at QB, more passing, more balance with the running game.  But that's just a mom's view.

  4. Hi Mom,  surprised to see you here.  Gonna learn our secrets.   ;D  Good luck to LH, and if our little, very little (& slow) dogs can win Friday, may you have your re-match.  In Huntsville!   ;)

Haha!  I pop in from time to time, just because.  :P  I already know all about the t-rex arms, so I can't imagine there's many more secrets.  :D

And....I'm rethinking the whole Huntsville thing.  Floyd Casey sounds MUCH better.   :-*

  5. Big surprise, I'm sure, but I think we will win.  ;)

I hear Carthage is fast.  I find it hard to believe that they are faster overall than Cuero.  I've read some about Blackshire and he sounds very good.  Hopefully we'll be able to put enough pressure on him to force him out of his "game".  Our OL has torn defenses apart the last few games.  I know this will be the toughest game since Cuero, but I think we're up to it.

  6.

Although I agree, his future after high school should have been complete by now.  I mean, he was blessed enough to have gotten to the playoffs before he got hurt and petitioned to play another year.  I'm wondering...how would they tally yards and stuff for records since the average high school player only gets four years to play?

You have ZERO clue what you are talking about.  This is his FOURTH year in high school, the same that every other athlete gets.  He was held back from starting kindergarten, which is fairly common from what I understand.  UIL states a player who turns 19 before September 1 is ineligible - his birthday is in October.
