The word I got from the Tiger coaching staff is that Houston Davis, although being a 4A, only suits out about 20 players for varsity. They did say those 20 players were pretty good though, went 7-3 last year. Silsbee coaches went and scouted Davis Thursday night and I was told that Davis will be able to match Silsbee's speed but wasn't much bigger size wise. This is a game where Silsbee could have used their big o-line of the past years and just wear Davis down. This one will be interesting.

UT has enough RBs, its enough Whaley is going there next year, and he's the best RB in the US IMO. Whaley is a load. Texas does have enough backs already. Playing time is going to be hard to come by. But he would get some I'm sure. oh yeah, at least 50% of the carries. but he will start next year at LSU My Aggies are not out of the running just yet. I think I need to go pay Mr. Michael a visit.

Which team has a better shot at beating WOS???
AggiesAreWe replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I would have to say that for this year, Jasper may have the best shot. But, I wouldn't count my Silsbee Tigers out. Since we all dropped down to 3A, Silsbee has been the only team in the district to play WOS close with a very reasonable possibilty of winning the '06 game. I think the Tigers are a year away though. -

LU Soccer Team Shut Out In Opener

I was just picking at ABR3 because he didn't say why it was a good showing...and wanted to see what counter-argument he had. I like to rattle him some because I know he is very proficient at basketball and football knowledge. Wanted him to break down the 'other' futbol for me... I am hoping the SLC soccer product is more improved this year. The win by UTSA over Houston was a nice win to put in the back pocket for the SLC. The Cougars were elusive last year, defeating SLC schools SHSU by 1 goal, TXST by 4 goals and UTSA by 3 goals last year. As to the reference by ABR3 that SHSU would not do much better, we have unfortunately not seen the Red Raiders since they narrowly escaped Huntsville with a 3-2 win in OT in 2005. Soccer is one of the sports that struggles at SHSU. Our biggest win was our run through the 2005 SLC tournament and a victory against Mississippi State in 2006. Perhaps a new coach can make a difference for us, just like you are hopeful they can for you...schedule is definitely built for a better record. oh, ok... sorry ;D. i take back my insults . Don't apologize bullets. The "just picking" is a cop out. TexasTerror meant every word and everyone knows his motivation. -
*Vidor 14 WO-S 14 Scrimmage Final*
AggiesAreWe replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
OrangeFBfan, I totally agree with you. But, there are some Mustang fans who would disagree with you. It's not just a scrimmage to them, you know who you are. Are you trying to call me out or something? Yeah, I know who I am and my feelings about these scrimmages has not changed a bit and never will. Last night showed us EXACTLY where we are right now. We know what we need to work on. And another thing, there was no "second team" on the field last night at any time for either team. There were backups that filled in, but that's it. This was an extra game that both teams had the benefit of playing. Now, as for you, we are not going to agree on this, EVER. So you will be doing good by just dropping this and stop trying to pick a fight with me. Hey Gasilla, we're cool. I was just yanking your chain a little. You are right, we won't agree on this matter. -
LCM at Silsbee /Silsbee Wins!!!
AggiesAreWe replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
In the controled scrimmage, each 1st team ran 12 plays and each 2nd team ran 12 plays. LCM 1st team scored once and Silsbee 1st team scored once. Silsbee 2nd team was the only one to score among the 2nd teams. They played two game type 12 minute quarters. The first teams played the first quarter ending with a Tiger 21-0 lead. The 2nd teams played with LCM scoring twice, the last one with 10 seconds left in game. Silsbee had one td called back because of a penalty and also fumbled at the Bear 3 yardline. The Tigers looked a little bit better in this scrimmage. I will say this is by far the smallest Silsbee team we have had in years. Maybe one or two big bodies but that's about it. But, what we lack in size we make up for in speed. This will be one of the quickest teams we have had. One last note, I am really looking forward to watching Silsbee's junior QB Jeremy Johnson this season. Should be another highlite reel coming. -

*LaMarque at Central Scrimmage/CENTRAL WINS!!!*
AggiesAreWe replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
So true! That's why Erwin left LaMarque, he saw what was coming up! It's apparent you have no idea what you're talking about...get a clue fella! Where did ya grab that one from...just sounded like a good thing to say to make you look like you know what you're talking about...uninformed is more like it? On another note, to make an overall evaluation of ANY team based on a scrimmage of all things only shows a clear lack of knowledge of football...it's controlled practice...nothing more and I wouldn't look too far into it otherwise you're just grasping at straws! Let's get off that high horse, xLmCoog88. The fall will be more painful from that height. -

AggiesAreWe replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yes you do. I saw what I believed to be the entire WOS coaching staff at the Jasper/Nederland scrimmage. But, that should be the norm since the Mustangs play Nederland next week. I also expect to see them at the LCM/Silsbee scrimmage tomorrow since they play both of those schools. -
As long as WOS is in this district, my money will always be on them for having the best defense.

J'Covan Brown To Texas is Not Happening
AggiesAreWe replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Do yall think he was the best in the state from his class? No. I'll take the kid from North Crowley over him any day. BTW, can't wait for your report Chad. -
I attended the Jasper/Nederland scrimmage and came away with only two thoughts. First, I ruined my favorite Skecher sandals, and second, both Bulldogs ruined the Nederland football field. That field will never recover for the rest of the season. I was totally shocked that they played on it. It was nothing but a mud hole by halftime. I walked the sideline the whole game and went out on the field at half and sunk to my ankles. This may very well been a ploy to get that turf field now. BTW, Jasper looks to be at midseason form. Hope they don't peak too early.

Dayton vs Lumberton Game type scrimmage - Sat. 8/23

I can totally see your point if you're talking about 5A teams that actually have platoon substitutions, but we both follow 3A schools and neither of them have the luxury of having a 2nd "team", they have 2nd string players that rotate in with the first string players. Not very often do you see more than 2 or 3 second teamers out there with the rest of the starters. The whole, "they scored on our "B" team" thing is usually more like they scored while we had a couple of 2nd string players on the field. Anyway, it's a good little debate that's beginning to get old. I just think these scrimmages mean way more than some want to admit. It's just to easy to say, "it was JUST a scrimmage". Now, I do not see why on earth a coaching staff would scout a scrimmage. Seems like a waste of man power, but I bet that, if Dayton did scout Lumberton. It had more to do with a potential match up in the playoffs than it did winning their scrimmage. I am not suggesting that scrimmages are meaningless. But, scrimmages aren't meaningful enough to get a "win" or "loss" tag attached to it. As for this theory only applying to 5A schools, I beg to differ. Silsbee has a 2nd team offense and defense with maybe just a couple of 2 way players in the mix. I went to Newton's scrimmage last Saturday against Center, and they ran 2nd team offense and defense. Newton is 2A, Center 3A and not a big 3A at that. In this scrimmage Newton 1st team tied Center's 1st team 1-1, but Center's 2nd teamers out scored Newton's 2-1. Do I think Center has a better team because they "won" this scrimmage? Absolutely not. -

Never in my 44 years have I seen a scrimmage result recorded in a team's win-loss column. : No --we are scrimmaging in the forum. We need to get our fingers ready for 10-14 weeks of typing. Aggies--i agree with you totally on the official records. I was just kidding by referring to the area outside the locker room frequented by parents and other experts who are ready to greet the coaches and share their opinions about whats they have observed. To many--the whole season is judged by what they saw in the first scrimmage. Myself, I believe the scrimmage is a good indication to see what areas a team may be lacking in depth. But believe me--some coaches may feel the pressure of trying to make a good impression. Totally agree with this comment.
