How sad! A coach should know better than that and tell the players to quit trying to score!!  And to keep pressing?? You got to let the opposing team compete everybody knows this!!

Discipline comes in many forms dove. Absolutely from your examples. Also from making the choice to abide by standards set in place by the boss.
