Wow!! I love it when idle time gets the best of us all (myself included). 8) Rake1
I thought shugart was sitting out of 7 on 7 because he had hurt his leg or ankle. Maybe got people thinking and talking since he wasn't participating.
LOL!!! He didn't participate but for only a few series in 7 on 7 because it's BASEBALL season!!
When is baseball season anyway?  When does it start and end?  I wasn't aware that there was actually a "season" for any sports anymore.  Aren't baseball and basketball year round now?
True!

 3. You never know who will step up and be a star in any given year. So I will watch them all.
 4. Sad to hear about the young man's injury. That stinks its for his senior season. Get well soon.
 5.
From reports I've seen this morning, Coach Carter will be the new coach subject to board approval. With one the best pitching staff's in the area returning, the Indians should make another nice run in the playoffs.
That is great. I wish them the best.
 6.
We agree just completely different reasons. I wish someone else that knows volleyball would chip in here. It will be a tough year for my lady bobcats but we had a great season last year. By your state that experience is a strength that is true. But you have implied that you should win because of experience. By that theory HF's football team should have been good last year because a lot of those boys played varsity for 3 years. I think you are trying to give credit to the wrong people. Those girls work hard every year and every summer. This year is no different. The coaching staff has been there for hundreds of players and many AD's. The head coach and hard work deserve the credit.
HF will be back on top in Volleyball!
 7.
Silsbee does have a great group of talented players coming up as 9th graders next year. Could be the next best group that leaves a big mark in Silsbee. How big, we'll see in a couple of years.
Good Luck Silsbee!

Imagine what we'd be if only half the same emphasis and pressure were put on reading, writing, math and science. This is not college where if they win, it could mean millions to their schools. How about the players? I have never said this on a message board before, but dumb question. See answer above. These are children and sports should ALWAYS be secondary to education because the chances that any of them will play professionally (or at any other level beyond HS) are way too slim.
I agree!
Teachers and Coaches pay levels should be performance based. Like most jobs.
1st - how do you judge performance in a classroom? Lets even the playing field...every student in the school must be allowed on the team, and every kid must get equal playing time...like in the classroom 2nd - IF parents would work with their kids at home on academics as they do sports this wouldn't be an issue. 3rd - there's a reason why they are called STUDENT athletes in that order, how does the commercial go...400 some odd thousand NCAA athletes (more in HS) and MOST of us will be going pro in something other than sports... 4th - one of the dumbest things I've ever heard was that sports give opportunities to some kids to get an education that otherwise wouldn't even stay in school....priorities are JACKED UP! from parents, teachers, coaches alike, if this mid set is whats being taught or depended on.
Test Scores good teachers can overcome Education is important Never said we should give more priority to sports. Both professions should be evaluated on their own merits.

They are stronger and Faster!
I don't think you know anything about volleyball or this district. HF will finish in the top three but not because they are stronger and faster. And being fast has nothing to do with volleyball. Quickness and agility do but not fast. Orangefield graduated almost everyone. Silsbee graduated a lot. HJ graduated a lot of important people. It should involve Bridge City and HF for the district with maybe HJ sneaking in. For you to to say this is HF's year implies that they have never been good. They have been good for a very long time. Don't speak when you don't know.
Last time I checked stronger allowed you to jump higher and be more powerful, fast and quickness are pretty synonymous. You are being ticky tacky. HF is always competitive in volleyball in this district. I think their hard work in the weight room will put them in first place this year. We have alot of returning experience as well. Sorry OF graduated so much, but that is why I love high school and college because it can change every year.
Fast and quick are not synonymous. I have seen many people who were fast but not quick and vice versa. So HF has had a very good program for decades but next year they will be good because of the weight room. HF is not losing anyone that cannot be replaced and they have a good staff at teaching the skills of volleyball. That is why they make the playoffs all the time and that is why they will make it again next year. Not because of weight room. Can a weight room help? Sure. But does it matter how much you lift if you cannot pass, set, spike, or serve? Lifting is secondary to acquiring the skills to play any sport. All football teams lift a lot of weights, but I have seen many without the skill/coaching to compete against other teams. HF volleyball will probably finish 2nd to BC.
Let my put it like this; My original quote said H-F will be "stronger and faster." Experience is a strength. Experience will give you a better reaction time, because you know what to do. They have also been working hard getting physically stronger and faster (same as quick). They have an experienced coach, they should have a great year. They will be in the playoffs. This will be their year. Horns back on top!
 10. Teachers and Coaches pay levels should be performance based. Like most jobs.

 14.
How many starters does each team have returning? How does the WR position look in Silsbee with Holmes, Garcia, and a few others graduating.
The real question is how many finishers do they have.  ;D  Just being silly.
 15.

HF does not pay worth a crap.  Hard to keep good coaches if you can't compete with other schools concerning salary.
True! These teachers are starving, especially in HF. Im sure the cost of living isn't too high there, but the people who live there must go to higher cost living places to shop and eat. HF used to be a great school and their athletic department was also top notch. They have such great families there. Sad they are in this sad of shape. Money doesn't grow on trees (well, I guess they don't have those either!), but paying your teachers state base isn't acceptable and will only lead to more trouble down the line. Bring back the HF I knew in HS.
You said, "HF used to be a great school."  >:( Sometimes I read dumb comments on here. Sometimes they are just plain stupid. I guess you get Houston news or something, but H-F is one of the top 3 in our region for academics. We also win our district every year in UIL competition. Last time I checked, that is what I thought school was about?
 16. Interesting list. Congrats to all.
 17.

I like camps, that's why I think the quality of play is where it is now on the sub-high school levels. I also like the full contact camps around the intermediate age, it gives kids that didn't play in a good little league or not at all a jump on the type contact he'll be seeing once all the restrictions are removed. The new Heads Up camps are pretty good about teaching proper technique which is most of what they do anyway. I'm also a huge fan of the new high school level camps you attend on university campuses. These can be a catch 22 however because while they seperate kids with comparable production on the field, they also expose the kids who've had great production but have been the benefactor of a good system or weaker competition. These camps are often the first time the local high school star is just a face in the crowd or a number on a jersey. Either way as previous poster have said, it's better than getting no work at all. My overall view is that camps do wonders for kids, even going to the smaller camps can get you a look which you may not have gotten otherwise. Coaches also talk, so if you're not a particular team's cup of tea a good word could be put in for you here or there.
Sounds like kids that have the opportunity to attend camps have an edge.
Its possible, but I know kids that went to camps every year and go no where, and others that never attend camps and go to D1 schools. If you got it, you will get a ride, if not, a camp wont give it to you. The saddest thing I have seen is the kids that got it, but are two dumb to get in the school. Education is the most important.
 18. They are a 2A powerhouse. Should have plenty of good years ahead.
 19. I think this would be a natural promotion for Chad Landry. He is really a great coach. Its time for him to go to 4A, and he would not even have to move!
