  1. They were called "The Zing Along Gang" because the offense was so overpowering. As I recall, the All District Offensive team was practically the Stark starting line-up, with the Tigers supplying 9 of the 11 positions. And I think they had 5 out of 11 on the Defense. In district play that year, 1962, the other five teams scored a total of 12 points against Stark. Of those five, only one team held the Tigers to less than 40 points. The "zing along" tag was inspired by the TV show "Sing Along With Mitch" which featured a choir of about 30 male voices that was called the Sing Along Gang. The show had a brief bit of popularity, but is now long since forgotten. Year after year, we at Stark didn't have a lot of athletic success to cheer about. The handful of bright moments meant a lot to us. And still do, even a lifetime later. Being a Stark grad the 62-63 team was the only bright spot that I can remember.I have often said if our qb had not broken his arm we would have been playing in the state game. Now I follow WO-S.The 87 team was great and would have to be considered the best to go 15-0 but I kind of like the 2000 squad for the heart that team had.Picked to finish fourth in district( the 87 team was picked to win it all ) and no real stars on that team they never quit beleiving in themselves and made it to the state game.
  2. Uh, no. Silsbee wasn't able to run the ball very well against that Stang defense. What they did do well was pass the ball. Silsbee had about 240 yards of offense that night with 180 of that coming via the air. Don't any of you think that Silsbee defense had a lot to do with keeping the game close? I do.
  3. Dave has Carthage @ # 2 and WO-S @ # 3.But in this bracket he has WO-S over Carthage. Is it because Gilmer would play us first if they were D2 and feels WO-S would be out before playing Carthage???
  4. The last time Gilmer was considered the best of the best and was mowing down oppents on the way to the playoffs and was working on their state title acceptance speech...they lost in the first round. They did have a great team that year but on any given night...
  5. Ok yall.Remember the L-train.We were saying the same thing back then.Just saying....
  6. Must be confident Gilmer will go D1.From what I've heard it all depends on Chapel Hill not making the playoffs. If they do,Gilmer goes D2 and you can throw this bracket out the window. It will be a war.
  7. When was the last time LM was not in the top 25?Who the heck is Cibolo Steele?
  8. The disappointment is and will be not playing in the state game sense we have been in 3A.Now you can have a successful year without making it that far but you always want to go a step better than last year.In this case it would be to make it past round three as WOS95 stated.New season, new QB and some new faces...they will have a few things to prove no doubt.
  9. What I like about Gary's announcing weather it be football, baseball or any sport, you really fell like your there watching it in person. This guy has really got a gift for play by play.Best in this area hands down.
  10. WO-S is hiring more coaches than spots vacated? They have the extra money, now that they don't have to bus. :
  11. Run the ball.Take your full 25sec and if there is still time on the clock take a delay of game and kick the ball away.
  12. Remember that well Skip.David wasn't the whole team but he made it jell.We had a heck of a running game to go along with an outstanding passing game.Teams just couldn't stop that combination.I remember that back up QB...bless his heart he was all thumbs and couldn't throw a lick.Still it took them ( Pharr San Juan Alamo ) all day to whup us and then not by much...17 to 13 or something like that.Dumas, the power school of our time went on to defeat Pharr for the state title. And that was the only team of that caiber that Orange Stark ever had that I know of. P.S....Then in 1966 BC showed all of us how win a state title.
  13. it was brought up numerous times but if the AD/HC doesnt want one.....it doesnt happen. How has everyone been getting their shirts, caps and the like.
  14. I know his pain.I left the 2000 Cal. game >
  15. I agree to a point. They still had to kick a field and they never are a given.A lot of bad things can happen. They still weren't out of it though...they still had a chance in o/t but were unable to do anything. But in any event you have to fell for that qb of Silsbee...he will never forget those last seconds and what might have been.
  16. WO-S didn't become good overnight. It took about seven years for the program there to take off and they had athletes then.Hooks didn't become HC until about 2 or three years into that seven year period. After 1984 the program Hooks installed took off and continues today. It takes more than just good athletes to have a continuing winning program.GET OUT OF MY WAY AND LET ME COACH.

  18. I think it's going to take awhile. If they get off to a bad start...you know, here we go again sort of mind set it could be much longer.Coach has a lot of work to do to get these kids to beleive in each other.Their at the bottom now and no where to go but up.Good luck to the Bears.
  19. Maybe now but back in the day when it was just TJ they fielded some pretty good teams.
  20. With this kids track record...he is on his way to the big time or should I say BIG HOUSE.It is a sad thing.
