  1. I think both backs bring different skills to the table and can make us tougher to prepare for. I don't see either as "clearly" better than the other. I also thought the 3rd back we used last week did a fine job, #14 Bryce Breaux. I do not think that we have that elite back that we have come accustomed to in the last handful of seasons at Ned, but these three guys can collectively carry the load.
  2. I still think it comes down to facilities and country clubs as well. All of the Houston area teams that have numerous champ and superchamp players have the luxury of many country clubs, acadamies, and coaches to choose from. Let's look at Montgomery.. They used to not factor at all before the academy was installed at April Sound, one of THREE resorts(April Sound, DelLago,Walden) in Montgomery. I know that area well, I was relocated there during the hurricane because I have a lakehouse there. I played for about a month with the kids and coaches there because there was nothing else to do. There are some great juniors that train there. When I played at Nederland in the mid 90's, we were top 10 in the state. But, we were much closer to 10 than we were to 1.. Those top 5 teams were supers and champs thru the WHOLE lineup. You are right when you say that it is not possible to compete against that. We were knocked out at state in team tennis that year by a score of 15-3 by a team named Flower Mound Marcus if I am remembering right. I also remember us getting smoked by San Antonio Alamo Heights.
  3. I think he will be a big factor on how far we go this season. As a soph,I think he will learn the game more this season. Look out for him in '08 and '09, he should be an absolute STUD by then. Not a whole lot of running backs are 180-190lbs as sophs with good speed.
  4. I agree with everything you said, garsnare. It also seems the only doubles success that we had had locally is in the lower classifications(3A,2A,1A). None of the teams that you listed would even do much in regionals at the 4A and 5A level. I think it probably goes back to the mid 90's since a local 4A or 5A doubles team has gone to state.
  5. I agree with sportfan07. There is not a whole lot of doubles talent in high school at the moment. I don't think he is bashing anyone, just stating his opinion. The fact of the matter is that juniors are working on their singles games and their coaches are teaching them strategies for singles and ignoring doubles for the most part. They are two TOTALLY different games.
  6. I am the farthest thing in the world from a PNG fan, in fact they are my LEAST favorite team in the area. But, I think they will get things going this week and win this game by two TD's. And, yes I have seen Silsbee play. The soph QB is very good, but so is PNG's defense. Burnett's job is on the line every game and I think they are going to use Hemmings, Wright, and Tezeno a lot this week and score some points.
  7. That is a shame. Possibly the two best QB's in 22-4A go down with very similar injuries. Nederland/Dayton meet late in the season. How cool would that be if both are playing again?!?!?! Get well soon Cody and Ryan.
  8. Wow! I think this is gonna be a really difficult game for us. Especially if it is wet like the predictions are saying. Waller is a power running team and will be a big test in my opinion and a huge step up from last week's opponent. I think we will get a better indication of what we have in our soph QB this week. I am very excited to see how he does. Win or lose, I think this will be a very close game against a district-caliber opponent.
  9. When I passed by at 8:30 C.O. Wilson was winning 14-12.
  10. I don't see any of those 3 coming close to Deaver this year. My prediction is that by his senior year that Grant Lopez is going to be a very, very good player. He has all the tools and a dad that will hit with him all day long and twice on Sunday. lol Grant has a distinct advantage of being able to hit with and coached by the best tennis player in SE Texas any time he wants. That could go a long way in the development of his game unless he pushes him too hard and burns him out.
  11. Tony Ward-- Ozen Paul Thomas- WO-S Ryan Piletere-- Nederland Chris Gohlke-- PN-G Those immediately come to mind off the top of my head.
  12. Shouldn't y'all go ahead and win A GAME before we crown y'all district champs?! Y'all will be improved and in the thick of the playoff race, but c'mon you can't be serious with your post.
  13. With the parity in district this season, I would say there is a good chance of co-champs this season. I still view Dayton and Central as the frontrunners though.
  14. Being one play away from the playoffs and winning the district title easily are two TOTALLY different things. If LC-M gets in, my prediction is that it is as the 3rd place team. But, I will stick by picking Dayton, Central, and Nederland in no particular order.
  15. How is LC-M in good shape at 0-2 and they too are having trouble scoring. I agree it is a wide open race!
  16. Oh okay. The kids I watched were superchamps. I actually thought both of them should have been in Men's Open.
  17. Mens Open Singles winner: Sunday Jegede(Houston) beat Andrew Irving(Newks) in 3 sets.. Jegede is an excellent player with a huge serve and heavy strokes. Men's Open Doubles winners: David Wanja/Emanuel Olivier(Lamar) beat Diego/Medina(Peru) in straight sets. Mixed Open Doubles winners: Jacob Vernon/Tara Shelander(Beaumont) beat Sunday Jegede/Coco(Houston) in 3 sets. Womens Open Singles winner: Maniayreni Gutierrez(Lamar) beat Manijee Ashrafi(Lamar) in straight sets. LU freshman has a very promising career ahead. She lost a total of 3 games this tourney. Women's Open Doubles winners: Ashrafi/Martinez(Lamar) beat Gutierrez/Gutierrez(Lamar) in 3 sets Boys 18 singles: Hersh Pise(Houston) 1st place Shariq Khan (Houston) 2nd place... I watched these two kids play and they were very good. My only question is where were all our local juniors? Hersh Pise was probably good enough to compete in Mens Open. Why didn't our local juniors sign up to get some good competition? Boys 16 singles: Ambrish Vasudevan(Houston) beat Dominique Alexander(Plano) in 3 sets.. These kids were okay, but very beatable. It may have been because it was right after I had watched the two 18 y.o.'s play and had watched Jegede bomb serves all day lol. Boy's 14 singles: Steven McMullan(Houston) beat Naveen Fernando(Houston) in straight sets Boys 12 singles: Michael Maciel(SugarLand) beat Adithya Hari(Woodlands) in straight sets Girls 16 singles: Shana Landry(Kirbyville) 1st place Lauran Lauher(Beaumont) 2nd place Girls 14 singles: Nellie Hillner(College Station) beat Ana Balderas(New Braunfels) in straight sets Girls 12 singles: Emmy Usheva(Friendswood) 1st place Scout Heinschel(Beaumont) 2nd place.. Usheva lost a total of 1 game in 4 matches.. Not even worth the drive down here.
  18. Who is PN-G 's #1 guy and who beat him?
  19. Add to that probably the most talented group of Freshmen that I can remember and the next few years will be FUN!
  20. The caller Billy Bob last night on "Smack Attack?" He told a very funny joke that had the hosts rolling.. It was... "How do you keep the Port Neches Groves football team out of your front yard?" Put up goal posts! Even a PN-G fan called in and thought it was funny!
  21. I remember when they were fairly decent. Right now they are a mess.
  22. Forest Brook was horrible. No doubt about it. I was happy to see the soph QB throw 4 td's to 4 different wideouts and get some confidence though. HISD football ir ridiculous.
