That is the God honest truth. [/quote] Really? I think you summed it up when you said that you played four years under Mathews and only one on varsity. That statement screams the reality of the situation. All I can say is that before every game and before the boys would run out of the skull, my 3-year-old daughter would yell, "Jeff!" and run to him. He would pick her up and hug her as if she was his own daughter. I don't know how many head coaches would do that....usually they are so focused on the task at hand that they are oblivious to things around them. So if he is willingly to validate the feelings of a 3-year-old girl seconds before a game, I can only imagine the love and lessons he is teaching these boys. Sorry your experience was different, but I bet it is in the small minority and you have truly missed out on a wonderful relationship.
