  1. But arent those "liberal" colleges supposed to encourage free thinking and how to be "tolerant" of the views/values of others?  If Ahmadinejad is ok to speak at Columbia, why in the world wouldnt Condi Rice be acceptable at Rutgers?  Here are the words of the Columbia President just prior to Ahmadinejad speech.  Please tell me how any of that would not apply in this instance:       " Second, to those who believe that this event should never have happened, that it is inappropriate for the university to conduct such an event, I want to say that I understand your perspective and respect it as reasonable. The scope of free speech in academic freedom should itself always be open to further debate. As one of the more famous quotations about free speech goes, it is an experiment as all life is an experiment. I want to say, however, as forcefully as I can that this is the right thing to do, and indeed it is required by the existing norms of free speech, the American university and Columbia itself. Third, to those among us who experience hurt and pain as a result of this day, I say on behalf of all of us that we are sorry and wish to do what we can to alleviate it. Fourth, to be clear on another matter, this event has nothing whatsoever to do with any rights of the speaker, but only with our rights to listen and speak. We do it for ourselves. We do it in the great tradition of openness that has defined this nation for many decades now. We need to understand the world we live in, neither neglecting its glories nor shrinking from its threats and dangers. It is inconsistent with the idea that one should know thine enemy — I’m sorry — it is consistent with the idea that one should know thine enemies, to have the intellectual and emotional courage to confront the mind of evil, and to prepare ourselves to act with the right temperament. In the moment, the arguments for free speech will never seem to match the power of the arguments against, but what we must remember is that this is precisely because free speech asks us to exercise extraordinary self-restraint against the very natural but often counterproductive impulses that lead us to retreat from engagement with ideas we dislike and fear. In this lies the genius of the American idea of free speech. Lastly, in universities we have a deep and almost single-minded commitment to pursue the truth. We do not have access to the levers of power, we cannot make war or peace, we can only make minds, and to do this, we must have the most fulsome freedom of inquiry."
  2. I am sure that they would prefer Debo Adegbile as their speaker
  3. You are right but that didnt matter to everyone who voted for free stuff
  4. Just think- a few months ago, there were a couple of lefties on here insisting that all of this was likely attributable to a couple of rogue agents in Cincinnati.
  5. Real ignorance is believing that the food stamp program does not get abused.
  6. Maybe its time for another apology tour?
  7. Keep in mind, that if he resigns, he will be forced to use Obamacare.  Thats enough motivation not to leave
  8. Yes, more taxes and more regulations are the answer.
  9. There has NEVER been a recession from which this country didnt recover, so stop implying that the recovery ( which is the weakest since World War II) had anything to do with who occupied the top office in this country.  The country was going to ( as it ALWAYS has) recover to some degree from the slowdown.  I would suggest to you that the President policies, if anything, delayed and minimized the recovery.
  10.   So you believe Mr. Cheney singlehandedly started two wars?
  11. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]
  12. Dick Cheney? Joe Biden? Who do you prefer?
  13. I dont think it is a conspiracy.  After all, there is no need to be concerned if you have done something wrong.  If you have, the President will simply deny it and suggest that he had no personal knowledge of samd and a a "pending" investigation will get to the bottom of things and then everything is forgotten and the "bottom" is never reached.
  14. MSNBC has had two or three "employees" be forced to resign/fired or issue public apologies for their conduct as far as criticizing/belittling/besmirching conservatives.  I dont recall any of you lefties seeing anything wrong with what they did.
  15. Would that mean, then, that if the Texas "enforcer" believes that one of Mr. Obamas executive orders will be struck down as unconstitutional, he should not pursue violators of same?
  16. Am I understanding you correctly, then, that you feel the only laws that should be enforced are those that the "enforcers" believe are constitutional?
  17. Say what you want, but I find it quite comforting that the IRS will be administering our health care plan with massive competence and much integrity.
  18. They cant put out anything except " I will give you this by making the other guy pay for it".  It may have lost some of its "luster".
  19. the answer is more than obvious.  Therefore, if most of the major networks have hosts who lean to the left, why be concerned about just one that leans to the right?  I believe the answer is that, until Fox came along, the left "owned" 98% of the media.  Now that their "ownership" has been reduced, they have problems with that.  The discussion of "fairness" is little different than telling those that pay most of the taxes in this country that they are not paying their fair share
  20. Can you please point out to me the Republicans that host shows on CNN and MSNBC please?
  21. Hmmmm- I wonder why MSNBC has such a relatively low viewership?
  22. Once again, Candidate Obama "declared" that one of the big issues was the Bush administration issuing too many executive orders and concentrating too much power in the White House.  He then stated that this was something that he was going to fix.  How do you feel the "fix" is proceeding?  This is not unlike Candidate Obama "declaring" that a 7-10 trillion debt during the Bush Administration was irresponsible and unpatriotic.  Here we are at 17 trillion and that seems to be acceptable.  Simply amazing.
  23. I am not going to compare 5 years against 8.  Furthermore, candidate Obama said that this was one thing he was going to fix.  Are you satisfied with the fix?
  24. And is it wrong for the right to" scream" for illegal immigrants to get out and re enter lawfully?  Have you watched the videos lately of then candidate Obama "screaming" about Mr. Bush abusing executive orders and concentrating too much power in the whitehouse?  Could there be a bigger joke than that one?
  25. I think the answer is fairly simple- far less "free stuff"
