1. I completely agree with you Uncle Pig. Anybody saying there was a defensive coaching problem knows very little about football. During the playoff run the DC made so many great adjustments. Longview was a matchup nightmare for any DC coordinator (3 WR speed threats that could fly, a dual threat QB, and a powerful super fast or power running game with a great offensive line). The DC made adjustment after adjustment but could’t matchup (like the 15 other Longview opponents this year). Great season for The Brook!
2. That’s exactly right. Dickinson dominated Thomas Jefferson the week before in the Dome and were supposed to dominate WB. And, while a score of 49-31 isn’t that unusual for scores in today’s game, at the time that was a shootout.
3. The 1982 WB completely dominated Converse Judson (In the semifinals) and LD Bell in the Championship game. We needed luck to get through the Houston schools (Houston Memorial, Baytown Sterling). By the time we reached the semifinals nobody in the country would have beaten us.
4. It is amazing that the 93 girls have 11 playing college soccer and a couple more that were more than capable.  What's more amazing is that the previous LU coach didn't want these girls (well with the exception of Aaron and the keeper). He was more interested in signing a girl from a big name club than a more talented kid from a smaller club.  This isn't intended to knock any current or former LU player that played at a big name club, it's just a statment of fact that several of the SSSC 93 girls could have really helped the LU program.
5. Gerald Landry without a doubt.  He made so many fantastic plays (with his arm and his feet) under playoff/championship pressure.  James & Chip are close but like others have said Gerald has the ring.  There were several plays in the championship run that were "make the play" or WB gets eliminated and Gerald would make the play.  One of many examples, the 4 down & 17 to go against Houston Memorial when time was almost running out.  Gerald "under pressure" throws a strike to Colbert for the first down.
6. I want to give props to Spindletop Select's 96 Girls.  They had a nice weekend at the Texas Shootout against some good competition with 3 wins and 1 loss.  Also, congrats to the U19's on winning Director's Cup and the U17's ('93's) for all your accomplishments the last 7 years.     SSSC 96 Shootout Results     3-0 FC Falcons     3-0 Lonestar 96G White SA     1-2 Sting West 96     1-0 96G Centex Cyclones
7. The local association (SYSA) which is made up of all the local clubs (BYSC, Spindletop Select, Hardin, Orange, Gulf Coast, and Seabreeze) will be having association wide tryouts for the first time ever.  All the kids in the area that want to play competitive soccer will be trying out together at the same time.  Teams will be formed based on talent and preferred level of play (D1, Super 2, D2).  This is a step in the right direction to get the best talent in the area playing on one team to compete in Houston.  Right now, the two most successful teams in the area, have most (not all) the talent in their age groups, the Spindletop Select 93 Girls & Spindletop Select 96 Girls.  They are both upper level Div 1 teams.
8. The Spindletop Select U15 girls are a very good team. The U12 Spindletop Select girls are also a Division 1 team that is about to be promoted to the Division 1 Classic Bracket (Top 6 Div 1 teams in the eastern part of South Texas). The U13 Spindletop Select girls will be playing in the Super 2 State Tournament and also have earned a promotion to the Div 1 Competitive Bracket. All of these teams are trained by Director of Training, Jan van Beveren and several fantastic associate trainers including Jonathan Lovoi, Justin Lovoi, and Joe Fontana.
9. Go to spindletopselect.org Spindetop Select will be having a Youth Academy for U9 and U10. (ages 7-10) Tryout dates for the older kids: • U11 Division 1, Super 2 and Division 2 Boys and Girls: May 2, 7 & 9 (5:30-7:00 p.m.) • U12, 13, 14 Division 1, Super 2 and Division 2 Boys and Girls: June 4, 5, & 6 (5:30-7:00 p.m.) • U15, 16, 17 & 18 Division 1, Super 2 and Division 2 Boys and Girls: June 4, 5 & 6 (7:00-8:30 p.m.) The new Director of Training Jan Van Beveren is incredible.
10. That's what the BISD AD gets for hiring nothing more than a 9th grade coach. Ozen has to much talent to be this bad. Congrats to LC-M.
