1. I agree with a lot of the posters. I would change 2. No automatic touchbacks, ball is live until someone gets on it. And a muffed punt would be treated like a fumble.
2. Coach Wooden also began the first practice every year with a lesson on the proper way to put on a pair of socks. It had a practical purpose... cut down on blisters. Now days he would be sued/fired/god knows what for insulting the players by suggesting they aren't smart enough to figure out how to put on socks, thereby destroying their self-esteem.
3. Late getting my pick in. Gonna go with EC for the win. As an EC alum, what I really hope for tonight is that the offense that showed up against Hardin and the defense that showed up in Anahuac both show up at the same game.
4. Can't really speak to PA announcer. Best radio play-by-play announcer in my opionion--- waaaaaaaay back in the day--- Tommy O'Brien voice of the Yellow Jackets.
5.
Had Nachos at a Westbrook game that taste like a mix of Cambodian Breast Milk and feet.
I am almost afraid to ask but can't help it. Just how does one come to know what a combination of Cambodian breast milk and feet would taste like?
6. I am down here in South Texas and haven't seen any of them play, but based on my observations from afar, I pick 'em this way: 1. Newton- So they got thumped by Kville, most likely every other 2a team in the area would too. Besides, the Eagles have been on (or right at) the top of the heap in 2a for a long time, until someone knocks them off I'll stick with them for my first pick. 2. Anahuac- Looks like the Panthers have something cooking. Seems they have been on the upswing the last couple of years and its comming together. 3. East Chambers- Third place should be a dogfight and the EC QB situation could easily result in a lower finish. Certainly neither Buna, Hardin, nor Woodville will be a pushover and either one could easily land in the third spot (or higher for that matter). I am picking EC basically because: A. I graduated from EC- I freely admit I am voting with my heart on this one. B. They've built a pretty descent tradition over the last several years. C. They have a good coach. D. They have made the playoffs before when they probably shoudn't have (I think I am remembering correctly). E. I am hoping the items I just articulated count for something somewhere down the line (ya know-- those intangibles). Bottom line is, this is a heck of a class 2a district. There's a reason Dave Campbell and his boys voted it honorable mention (in a close vote) toughest 2a district in Texas. Gonna be a fun year in class 2a in setx !!!
7. Congratulations !!!! Adjusting from 11 man to 6 man or vice versa is not easy. Throckmorton will be a good test, you will definately have a handle on where your at in your development after playing them. Good Luck !!!
8.
Essexn that is total BS of a story.  How do you know there are twice as many parents that are bad as coaches? Have you counted them? Does that same plot not happen in the buisiness world? If you are a coach stop whinning or get out of it. Dont label all parents bad bc they dont size up to a football coaches expectations.
First of all, I'm not a coach. I AM a parent of a son that DID decide to march in the band when he realized he wasn't that good at football. For the record , I am as proud of him as the guys on here that are proud of their kids that play football. I was young when the incident described took place, but I heard personally the father in question bragging that he "got him fired". It is just one example (anecdotal of course, and the names were changed to protect the innocent) of what can happen. I didn't suggest that it is what "always" happens, merely that it "can" happen. As for counting them--- it is simple statistical probability. There are a lot more parents of football players than there are coaches of football players. If there were an equally bad percentage of coaches and parents, there would be more than twice as many bad parents as bad coaches. By saying twice as many I actually suggested that the percentage of bad parents is lower than that of bad coaches. I also stated that there were bad coaches that should be replaced (replacing a bad coach is different than replacing a good coach that doesnt play your son). Further more, I was speaking of parents that specifically don't know more than the coach about the sport in question but think they do and (though I probably didn't word it or illustrate it well) are not particularly objective regarding their childs ability. I didnt label all parents bad, just the ones that met that criteria. Finally, nothing in my post suggested that bad coaches (read bosses) etc. doesn't happen anywhere else in society.
9. True story from long ago---- Little Johnny was a lineman that didn't want to be a lineman. Realized he couldn't be quarterback, running back, or wide reciever so decided to become a kicker. Little Johnny worked hard to become a good kicker. He even went to a summer long kicking school coached by his daddy. Johnny thought he was a great kicker. Daddy thought he was a great kicker. Mommy thought he was a great kicker. Coach disagreed and let another kid kick. Mommy and Daddy and their buddies in town decided to get coach fired because he was a bad coach and didn't understand kids. The school board was stupid and granted mommy and daddy and their buddies wish. It was a long time before this once proud and always competitive team was any good again. Mommy and Daddy not only punished a good coach for his "mistreatment" of their baby boy. They ruined a generation of football. There are certainly bad coaches (and bad coaches should be replaced-- most DO NOT have long term contracts), but there are a lot more parents that don't know as much about[u]"pick your sport"[u] as they think they do and are vicariously reliving their glory days (if they had them) or living their glory days (if they didn't have them) through their kids who have been taught that the world revolves around them and everything bad that happens to them is someone elses fault.
10. I was at the game today, my observations. PAM impressive but not overwhelming. Very athletic but speed differential was not as great as I thought it would be. Offense- Receiving corps are the studs of the team, Alice couldn't keep them covered. Some of it was blown coverages (they don't see a passing game like PAMs very often) but mostly it was beaten on the play. Running game --- awful-- OB had a couple of good/big runs and a couple from RBs, but got stuffed A LOT O-line-- good pass protection but run blocking suspect Defense- Suspect against the run--An Alice team that lost to a Laredo team (there is nothing in setx as low as losing to a Laredo team, Alice is usually an easy 60 pts better than any team from Laredo) ran for too many yards to say they've proven they can stop the run. They got better as the game progressed, but Alice mistakes were a big help in both halves. Lost ficus a few times and helped Alice out. Summation- All in all I think the Titans are a very good team with some areas that need improving (not many teams don't have a few areas that need improving). Very athletic- all the starters and most of the team looked like they were carved from granite. They are in shape, none of them were sucking-wind at any time during the game. I was in the shade of the press box and was sweating, no problems with cramps or anything that i saw. The problems with the run have nothing to do with ability, just need some tweaking, it's all coachable stuff. This is going to be a dangerous team for opponents, if they find a running game they will be VERY dangerous. That's just my opinion---
11. Going to the PAM-Alice game tomorrow. Live in South Texas now (actually work in Alice a couple of days a week) and haven't seen a Port Arthur team play since the last TJ-Lincoln game and haven't seen setx teams play since Newton-East Chambers last year. Be good to see a setx team play live ...
12. If they had taken care of business a mistake by a ref might have cost them some points but not the game !!!!!
