1. For Augustus, What did I do strike a nerve. You either must be a coach or your kid didn't make a select team. I never once said there wasn't some  "Darn Fine Baseball Coaches" I said most of them really don't know the game cause they were hired to coach Football "First" and that is due to the fact the smaller schools can't afford both. So get your panties out of a wad. We were not talking about what they taught in a classroom (that is part of their job), we were talking about baseball, so get over it "Coach". Trust me I will not let my son play on a daddyball team, he either can earn the spot and play, work harder and take the spot or go to a different team and play, but I will not put up with Daddyball. Tell me what the difference in Daddyball and the Political butt kissing that goes on up at the school so their kids get a chance to play? You must be one of those also. For one I do not coach a select team, my son plays on one, Second we don't borrow the fields, we pay to play on them, so who ever is taking care of them are getting paid to do it, nothing is free "Coach", Third if there is one thing I know it is the game of baseball and I know if the coach is good or not, So I guess I died and made myself the "Super Duper 4A and below Baseball Coach Master Evaluator PHD" Just had to add the PHD part look better don't ya think. Again how many of those coach really work with their players on improving their game or are 90% of the players coach by a "Select Coach"  and the "Darn Fine Baseball Coaches" are just using them for the High School Season. I bet if you had a few of those Select players playing on your team and you rode those guys to the playoff or beyond you would still have the same comments?
2. redheaded, I was talking about the select baseball players that go out and play for Paid Coaches that have played at the highest level or at least at the Minor level. Trust me that is not a biased statement. I am not talking about your run of the mill select teams, there is a big difference. I am not saying that there is not good high school baseball coaches but most of the ones I see are not really that good. At the 5A level there is enough money to pay for a good Baseball coach, but in the 3A level Football is King and that is what they look for. You are correct the select players work hard to be good and playing year around does help improve their skills, playing against better teams does help to improve your overall performance when it matters most. Go look at all the really good players that play High School baseball and I bet that 90% of them play select baseball in some form or take lessions from a pro. I don't see very many High School Coaches at the 3a level and below that really know how to help a player improve his swing or fielding. Most of the Good Coaches as you call them are just coaching what someone else made (Pro Select baseball coaches). Yea is select baseball making someone rich, sure is but I don't know anything that you do in America today that isn't making someone money. You get what you pay for. How does it eliminate Team Concept, the last time I looked at my sons select team he wasn't the only one on the field. But does Little Johnny get to stay on the team if he doesn't want to work hard and put out, NOPE!! That is the problem with High School sports or most schools, every kids gets to stay on the team no matter how bad they are or how much they don't want to work, No one wants to hurt anyones feelings and then when these kids get out of High School the Real World Slaps them in the face. Again Select Baseball isn't for everyone. But don't knock it cause the onese that do it play.
3. Select baseball is not for everyone. With that being said the problem with some or most High School baseball teams is that the Head Coach on the Baseball field is not the that good of a baseball coach. Most AD's hire coaches for Football first and then baseball gets the left-overs that can coach that sport too (mostly in small towns) That is why you see so many kids keep playing select baseaball. The only way for those kids to get good coaching is to go out and pay for it at the private level.
4. First off don't take some of the comments that were made by Coldspring fans as disrespect, One thing I have come to realize over the years is they are very proud, supportive and will fight for everything they think there players deserve, and that is what they are doing I don't take it that way (I am from Shepherd and have spent year after year being their biggest Rival). Second the people of Shepherd wish you all the luck and hope that you bring home a State Championship for your school and the whole district. I too went to the game at SHSU and the people from Coldspring were so thankful that we came to help cheer on their team. They couldn't believe that all the people from different schools in our distric were there to watch them and root for them. So don't judge the whole town cause of a few, there are some really good people there and if the shoe was on the other foot I can bet you they would be there to help cheer on any other school in our district. So again We will be there helping bring a State Championship back to Coldspring. Third, there are a bunch of good players in this district. Just some teams had more that other teams but that doesn't mean that as indivisuals each player that has been mentioned on this forum isn't as good or better than others, Some players benifit and look better cause of the system they are in and the other kids they play with and then there are those that have to pretty much do it own there own, I am not saying that the players from the better teams are not as good or better it is just the way it is.
5. Went to the game also on Friday night. All the Coldpsring parents and fans we were sitting by were very thankful that we can to watch. I will say it was kinda weird sitting, watching and pulling for Coldspring when I have spent my whole life playing against them (Shepherd) but I truely hope that Coldspring wins it all. All the people we spoke to at the game were very kind and treated us like one of them. So it was good. The whole town from Shepherd are pullling for you to win it all. Good Luck
6. Stuckybowl, it is good to see the good people in Coldspring, there are a bunch of them and they are proud of there town and team, I am not from Coldspring but know a bunch of folks that are good people who take pride in doing things the right way, That is why I said something, The words of one poster is making the whole town look bad and I know that is not the case, just hate for everyone to be judged by the lack of respect of a few. Good Luck to Coldspring and Huffman this week go make the distric proud. Maybe next year we won't have to hear about how weak this district is.
7. Coldspring by as many as they want in this one. I wished I was going to be in town to see the Coldspring vs Kville re-match. That is going to be a good one. paintballove - I wasn't implying anything wrong just that Huffman has a very nice complex and schools and nobody else in that district can afford anything like that. It was ment as a complement. chs11 - you see it your way and everyone else can see it there way. Kinday thru trying to beat a dead horse on this one.
8. (falconfanatic) I'm not from Coldspring but do know people from the town and there are some really good people over there. They care how people view them and what people think of them (most of them are not dumb rednecks) just a few that open there mouth and make the whole town look that way (CHS11). You could say the same for Huffman and yes I know some very good people over there also. I was not "still talking" about the crying between Coldspring and Huffman. I just keep having to read threw the crap everytime i subject comes up on either Coldspring or Huffman. Both of these schools don't know how good they have it with some very good players on both teams and should both do very well in the rest of the playoffs. I just wish you both would quit complaining about one game it is over. YOu could be going to some of the other schools in the distric that almost never get to the playoff, that have good kids and parents but just can't get over the hump. I don't hear them complain near as much as the people like your two teams that most of the time have good winning seasons. So what is there for you two to cry about all the time? (chs11) I don't need to prove or show you were Coldspring has dis-respected anyone, you know the truth it has been going on for years and years and then people from Coldspring want to get on hear and cry why nobody in the district will pull for them. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got. You can be a good team and steam roll everyone in district but you could do it with a little more class. Huffman you have a great town with deep pockets and I think that is great, your schools are great and the complex is the best in these parts for 3A. If I could I would move my kids over to go to school there in a heart beat. But can't understand why some of your folks have to take shot at Coldspring and keep crying about a game you lost fair and square. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks.
9. Man will you two schools quit crying, You are both in the playoffs and are good teams but who cares about the game that you two played againsted each other. Coldpring has always been a little on the arrogant side that talks alot of crap, but don't take that for being dirty, if your kids can't take loosing and getting crap talked to them then they need to get thicker skin  (it is football). Huffman quit crying over the game, yall lost (can't count should-of, could-of & would-of) again it is football and you lost so drop it. Dirty or not Coldspring won. Coldspring I will say it again, No team in our district is going to pull for your team to win cause of the way you act and carry yourself, learn to respect the other teams in our district then maybe you will get some in return.
10. First of all I am not from Coldspring or Huffman Second, Stuckybowl - WOW - why would you call out the QB from Huffman, so he finally had a game where he throws a few picks, when you put the ball in the air as much as Huffman does that is going to happen sooner or later. I think the problem is that Huffman's QB is by far the best in this distric, Man just give to kid his due, he is good so don't come on here and try to take anything away from what this kid has done all year, Since when is throwing for 200 yards in a High school game not a good night? Third - Stuckybowl - please show a little class, you want to know why other schools don't root for Coldspring in the playoffs, cause instead of knowing you have a good team and being classy you have people just opening their mouth and saying stupid things. Please don't call out a high school kid on a public forum. I heard it was a good game by both teams and good luck to both in the playoffs.
11. I stand corrcted on the Coldspring - Shepherd score, my bad. But my point is still correct Huffman hasn't seen a fast, physical and strong team like Coldspring this year.
12. I will go with DeBerry for MVP he is a good QB. Coldspring and Huffman has a bunch of good quality kids, but there are some good ones on the other teams also, will be watching to see if Politics will play a big role in the voting or if it will be the best player gets it.
13. Shepherd scored twice against Coldspring I want to say the score was 56-14 (yea I know still a blow out and Coldspring could of scored 100 if they would of wanted too.)
14. Again, I will stand by that Huffman doesn't run the ball that well (against a good defense). Please don't get too upset, I think Huffman is a good team but just not near as good as Coldspring (and to tell you the truth I hate to say that cause I really don't like Coldspring). All I am saying is that when Huffman had to go up against a good fast, physical and strong defense (K-Park) what happend? Coldspring lost to K-ville and that is it. So you really can't compare apple to oranges. Huffman is a good team but hasn't played anyone yet that is going to make me think they can play with Coldspring, K-ville ect. I hope that Huffman wins but can't see that happening.
15. Forthelove - Coldspring can throw the ball and the big Tightend (Shelly) can catch very well, so don't think it will be 99% run cause it won't. From the games I have seen Coldspring or Huffman doesn't turn the ball over very much. Also the games I have seen Huffman play they don't run the ball all that well, the "O" line for Huffman is going to have to come up big in this one, cause they have not seen a "D" line as fast, physical or as strong as what they are going to see on Friday night. As far as the defensive point that are given up by both teams there really isn't another offense in this district (other than Coldspring or Huffman) that can really put points on the board. If you look at points given up as the guage then you should think that Shepherd would be the #3 team in district cause they scored the most points on both of these teams in district (so far) but they are 1-4 so that doesn't let you see the whole picture. Again I don't have a dog in this hunt not from either school but I call it like I see it. Coldspring will be too fast, physical and strong for Huffman. Sorry Huffman wish you all the luck in the world but just can't see it happening. Good Luck to both teams and go represent 22-3A well in the playoffs.
16. Best way to keep DeBerry off the field is by running the ball and w/ Huffman's "D", Coldspring will be running all night. Paint you are right though DeBerry is good, but what good is he if he is having to watch most of the game from the sidelines cause your "D" can't spot Coldspring "O". I have seen both teams play and Coldspring is just going to be too fast and physical for Huffman. Coldspring by 14.
17. 2MADRE you are right, Shepherd will be too much this week, after talking to some of the boys they really have a chip o their should (finally) and you should see a way more physical Shepherd team (about time but too little to late for this year), too much #2 (he runs hards and is only a jr.) on Friday for the Horns, and yes Shepherd's defense is the better of the two. So Shepherd by 14. Some of the Soph. are starting to come around (took them long enough).
18. I will chime in, is Liberty like were I am from, it always has to be the coaches or someone elses fault cause god knows that it is never the poor babbies fault that they are just not as good as the player that they are lined up across from or the other player just out worked them, always has to be someone or something else.
19. I will take Liberty, you can come on here and dog out Liberty and then say what you want to about Shepherd but if you look back at the district games Shepherd has played I do think they put up the most point on both Coldspring and Huffman this year in district and if you ask about the Cleveland game I do think even the Cleveland folks will say that they should of lost that game (yea I know they are 0-8 and "should of" don't mean a thing to most people but when you are as young as Shepherd is it does mean something) So Shepherd may be 0-8 but aren't a give me game for sure. So I will go with Liberty by 7 in this one.
20. I did mean the begining of District play. Shepherds pre-season was not really that hard, but with a very young team they struggled (and still are with certain things) But there district schedule to start off with was hard. They are getting better with every snap and will put up a good fight for the rest of district. With Shepherd it depends on which team shows up, The young team or the team that has learned from the past games. Shepherd may not sneak into the playoffs this year but I will say they will get a spot next year for sure. But if they win tonight it will make things interesting.
21. Sorry to say but Huffman doesn't have near enough speed to hang with Coldspring, you can say all you want to, I seen the game against Shepherd (and yes Huffman was in control of that game the entire night) but after everything I heard and read about Huffman I really thought I would of seen a more Physical and faster team. You have a few kids that can run but do not have near enough team speed (from the lineman to the secondary) to compete with Coldspring. Coldspring is a lot bigger and way more Physical than Huffman. I am not taking anything away from Huffman cause they are a good team and will get second in the district but I just don't see where they have enought to stay with Coldspring. Yes I know DeBerry is a great QB and you have a couple of recievers that are very good, I don't disagree with that, but DeBerry will not have a lot of time to sit back and pass the ball and the defensive speed that Coldspring has is going to be too much. Again if you don't score 70 points Huffman will not win, the Huffman defense is not going to allow them to stay in the game, If Huffman's offense is on the sidelines then they are not going to be out there throwing the ball around. The only way to be a spread offense like what Huffman has is to keep them on the sidelines and that is what Coldspring will do.
22. Did Huffman score after both of those turnovers? So I would say yes they did. No one is taking away from the fact that Huffman is a good team, but it seems like when people point out things on a good team that need to be fixed, people don't like hearing that. What I am saying is the teams you have played besides K-Park are not in the same league as Coldspring. So hang on to that "Huffman is only giving up 14 points a game" and after Coldspring and the first round of the playoffs we will re-visit that comment. Huffman is a good team no one is taking that away from them, but the defense I saw last Friday night will not keep them in the game against Coldspring or the first round of the playoffs unless they can score 70 points.
23. I wouldn't cout Shepherd out, they had to hardest schedule to stat district off, As i see it, IF they win out then they will be in the thick of things, Splendora is in the drivers seat but they can't slip up any, Shepherd played both Coldsprings and Huffman already and Liberty has only played Huffman and Splendora has only played Coldspring, Cleveland still has both of those teams to go, so that would put them with 3 losses at a min. If Shepherd wins out they would have 3 losses as well Liberty has to win out also but I can't see them getting by Cleveland and the game with Shepherd will be close, and if Splendora wins out then they will only have two. So it is up in the air right now, but this week will go a long way in seeing who will get that 3rd spot. If Shepherd looses then they are done for the year as well as Liberty, So let's see who steps up and gets it done, Cleveland, Liberty, Splendora or Shepherd.
24. Huffman is for real on Offense, no doubt about that, but their defense is not as strong as I thought they would be, Huffman is a legit team but don't think they will be able to hang in there with Coldspring (team speed is going to be way to fast and Coldspring is way more physical than Shepherd.) Shepherd did hurt themselves in the first half with turnovers while they were moving the ball on Huffmans defense. But at no time in that game was Huffman not in control of the outcome. Shepherd played them pretty well in the second half once they figured out a few things on the pass defensive side of it. Huffman has to learn to stop the run. Shepherd on the other hand is still very young but that shouldn't be an excuse this late in the season, I can see them getting better with every snap and I will say this now, next year they will be a very good team with a ton of kids that are going to just be jr. and soph. Since we have played both Huffman and Coldspring I am going to have to give the nod to Coldspring but not by as much as people think, Coldspring better learn out to cover the pass cause Deberry is for real and the wideouts are good, but Coldspring will be too much, but you never know that is why you play the game.
25. The one thing I can say is that when we played Cleveland this year the boys played with a ton of discipline and it was really good to see them play a good clean game. The the last few years Cleveland has been good but the one thing that turned other towns against them and not want to root for them in the playoff was how the boys acted on the field. It is one thing to be good and cocky, but it is another to act the way they were allowed too. There is no doubt that Cleveland has some great athelets and will again be a force in the distric they are in, so don't take this as a "Don't be mad cause your team lost" cause that is not the case. As an outsider looking in, that is what a lot of people see. I think if the people of Cleveland allow this coach to get the program going in the next year or so, none of the Cleveland faithfull will be on here talking about what happend to Cleveland.
