BEST SILSBEE PLAYERS OF ALL TIME
klkctt87 replied to Boogy1000's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I played with Darrel McArthur. I would rank him towards the top, but there are several mentioned here and on the list that I never got to see play. Boogaloo could play any position and could score at will. -

Silsbee has a better team. --- HJ plays better together as a team.
. Oxymoron? Wouldn't the group that plays better as a team be considered the better team?
You are correct but if the Silsbee team were to play together more as a team, they would beat HJ easily. IMO

Stallworth wasn't held he just wasn't involved in the scheme.Hill did an excellent job of taking the ball to the bucket and drawing fouls early.Later in the game the fouls didn't come and the bigs were out of the flow for the Tigers by then.I think the Tigers and especially Stallworth will bounce back strong.
Hmmm.... Is it just me or is Silsbee more balanced when Hill was out? I know that kid is good.... real good.... but Silsbee is much better when they are not 1 dimensional.
I think Hill is a very talented player. If he could learn to pass the ball on some of those drives to the basket, Silsbee would be a much better team and he would be a much better player. I don't think he had a single assist last night. -
Silsbee had a good 3rd period, but they could have really blown it open if it wasn't for turnovers. At the end of the quarter, it must have been 6-8 poss. with 6-8 turnovers. HJ caused some of these with their pressure, but several of them were just silly mistakes. If Silsbee can get this under control, they should go deep in the playoffs. If not, it may be a short playoff run. Anyone know how many times they turned the ball over at the end of the 3rd period?
Well I am glad that you guys have time to reminisce on the good ole days, but I don't. Pressing when you are up 88 points at half is extremely uneccesary, but it happened (can't change what happened) and I don't believe the only person to blame (if any) would be Lee. If you can't beat Yates' press, it's not Yates' fault. When you go out for sports, you should know that another team can beat you by as much as they want to if they have the ability. Yates' also can't water down their attack by putting subs in, because their subs are just as good as their starters. Yates didn't sign a contract to not play to their best abilities so every other sorry team can appear mediocre. Get over it, Ron
They should always play to their best abilities, just call off the press when your up by 100.
I'll put Silsbee's 8th grade team up against anyone's. They have yet to lose a game, from last year to this year.
I see this streak continuing through their Freshman year. After that, several of them will be on Varsity.
Question, where is the need to press after being up 100-12 at halftime? I don't defend anyone for forcing a score like that.
I agree 110%. There is absolutely no reason to continue the press. They should have stopped it after they scored 53 in the first quarter. Work on other aspects of the game, but call off the press. Oh, I forgot. Thats the only way they no how to play. ;) -

But, there are other ways of playing and showing class..A 2-3 Zone would be appropriate Maybe a little man to man..throw in some 1-2-2 sit back zone action, anything , these are KIDS..These kids are not just from inside the district lines...Move ins from all over the H-Town area for one reason..Break the record..Not very challenging for the coach or the kids, a dinamic AAU super squad vs other public schools..WOW..Sure they are good go win another state championship, but do it the right way..With CLASS..Some just dont get it and never will...In this life, sooner or later, what comes around, goes around, you can bet on that!!!
"Other ways of playing?" Are you serious? You play the way you are trained to play. Go all out! Same philosophy in business and making money.
So you are saying nobody has ever taught the guys to play a zone defense? They don't know how to play a half-court game? Dove, surely you are just stirring here.
They better be familiar with zone defenses and other ways to play the game if they expect to succeed at the next level. Learn to play all aspects of the game and you will be a much better player. -

Could some of the past Lincoln, Ozen, or possibly Silsbee's 31-1 team (around 1999-2000 season) compete at all with this Yates team?

Silsbee's Lane is a very solid player. Very impressed with his outside shot. This kid could easily move on to the next level. This was my first time to see Silsbee this year and it was strange to see so much size on a Silsbee team. Play smart ball and they will go far this season. On a different note, whats with the black uniforms. Silsbee is maroon and white. Keep the tradition, don't change it.
