Congrats to Thomas on the championship. I got the privilege to work for him at Jasper and he was the best athletic director that I ever worked for and an even better person. Katy will continue to win with him on their staff because he is a true winner and a class act.

Congratulations go out to Woodville graduate Chad Beck as he was called up to the big leagues yesterday by the Toronto Blue Jay's. As far as I know, he is the only graduate of any Tyler County school to ever make it to the major leagues.

Heard games at Baseball USA canceled, where are they playing now?

It is a rule that no artificial noisemakers are allowed. It depends on which umpire chapter you get, whether they enforce it or not. The Houston chapter usually enforces it while other chapters let the fans have their fun.

My brother asked me about this and I wasn't sure. I asked two umps and they weren't quite sure. Here is the situation, it happened in a high school district game about two weeks ago in Dallas. Bases loaded, no outs. Batter hits homerun that barely goes over fence. OF jumps up to try and rob homerun, comes down with his glove raised in the air, making it appear that he has caught the ball. No signal yet from the umps. Runners all retreat back to bases to tag up. Batter passes the runner who is returning to first. The umpires in the game ruled the batter out for passing the runner. All other runners were allowed to score. Did they get it right?

The last report I had on the young man was that he is doing fine. He was knocked out on the play, but was conscious and talking when he left the ballpark. It was definitely a scary situation for everyone involved. Thanks go out the the nurse and paramedic that were at the game and gave immediate aid.

Ron Polk(former Miss. State coach) used to bash the NCAA every time he spoke because he felt that the way scholarships were awarded was unfair.

This is all the more reason to make good grades in school. A school would much rather recruit a player who they can offer an academic scholarship to or combine it with an athletic scholarship to help cover there fees. Parents should make this clear with their child when they enter high school that if they do well all four years of high school, it can greatly improve their chances of playing at the next level.

Congrats to Jasper's 8th Grade A team and Coach Jerry Willoughby on winning district last night by beating Center 40-0. They were undefeated district champs and were unscored on in district. This is the first time in Coach Willoughby's 35 years at Jasper that he has had a team shutout everyone in district.

These parents make me sick. They are not doing this for their son, they are doing it for the money. I hate that their son died, but give me a break.

Does anyone have any word on how the kid that hurt his neck is doing? You never want to see something like that happen. Our prayers are with him and his family right now.

We were extremely impressed with how advanced some of the campers were for their age. Southeast Texas baseball is definitely alive and well for the future. We had campers from Jasper, Woodville, Newton, Hemphill, Evadale, Atlanta Georgia, and a large group from Buna.  Thanks to the families who sent kids to camp, it was definitely our pleasure to have them there.

Also, a special thanks goes out to Advanced Financial Services and First Bank & Trust for sponsoring the camps.
