Finding out the heritage of their Indian mascot can be traced back to the Village People and YMCA late nights!! just saying.......

I don't know what you're talking about. The only PN-G affiliation with the YMCA I know about is when the entire PN-G crowd started dancing to the song before the LC-M game. ;D

By the way, am I the only one who thinks it's ironic that the school with the smallest jumbotron in the district does the best job with it during all the pre-game festivities? LC-M has some fun with it.

Nacazil, Attakapas, Karankawa and other Indian tribes made their home in Port Neches. If you look up Attakapas..lots of feathers.
In 1980 we were presented with the official seal of the Cherokee Nation.

Actually, they did wear feathered turbans, but they did not wear the feathered headdresses that we see in plains tribes (think Sioux and Cheyenne). In any case, we actually chose the team name 'Indians' back in 1925 because of the pre-columbian presence of the Attakapa and Karankawa tribes in the area, not necessarily because of the Cherokee; that affiliations wasn't conceived until 32 years later when the fight song was arranged.

But none of that stopped the Cherokee tribe from adopting PN-G in 1980. Nor did it stop the Texas State History Museum from putting our mascot's uniform and one of our drum majorette headdresses on display. ;)

Let's just say that Billy Joe's BBQ really is Billy Joe's BBQ. ;D

But it should be pointed out that the Donner party started by eating the dogs. ;D
