BP, you are right our D had a very poor showing against Birdville. It was a cold rainy night and we just didn't tackle well. 37 missed to be exact. I think we have grown up alot since then. Last week we played a very good RB with over 3000 yards rushing with a huge O-Line and held him to 91 yards. The D has gotten much better. The boys have also been overheard saying they wished LT was D2 so we could play them again. Weather or not we could beat LT is not the point, the fact the boys want another shot tells you where they are confidence wise.

VP 32,
We have only been 4A for 10 years.(honestly I don't know what our first year in 4A was) 01-02 maybe. So let's hear your top 10 for the last 10 years. Can't wait to see how you keep aledo out of your list.
Did i say anything about the past 10 years? Yes you have had some good success in the years you have been in 4A but take away Gray and three of those years including this one is taken away. You can't deny that without JG you wouldn't have gotten this far. You'd be lucky to make it past the 3rd round. Yes you have a good program but not in the top 10. I'm also taking in winning tradition in 4A into consideration. Now if yall keeping going 3 rounds deep into the playoffs in about 10 to 15 years then yes yall will make my list in the top 10 but right now yall haven't. But this is just my opinion.

I sure would like to see Manvel win it but every possession the Mav's need to get some points on the board.Mav's can't give Aledo a short field to work with.Good luck Manvel I'll be pullin for an upset if you can sustain long time consuming drives for points and keep Aledo off balance on defense while keeping them on the field by using a hurry up offense and keeping JG & co.on the sidelines.Hokahey 8)

JGray could very well be a once in a lifetime player for any program.  He is simply that good.  However, the Aledo football program has been successful without him.  He was bothered by injuries last year and was not really even close to 100% until the state championship game, yet we were able to get there.

Over the past 16 years, Aledo has a record of 187-37 (winning percentage of 84%).  Here is a breakdown of the seasons and how far they went through the playoffs.

1996 - 4 rounds - 11-2
1997 - 5 rounds - 14-1
1998 - State Champs 3A-D1 - 13-1
1999 - 3 rounds - 10-3
2000 - 2 rounds - 11-1
2001 - 2 rounds - 8-4
2002 - 4 rounds - 12-2
2003 - 4 rounds - 10-4
2004 - 5 rounds - 12-4
2005 - 4 rounds - 8-6
2006 - 4 rounds - 12-2
2007 - 4 rounds - 11-3
2008 - 2 rounds - 11-1
2009 - State Champs 4A-D2 - 15-1
2010 - State Champs 4A-D2 - 16-0
2011 - Playing in State Championship game - 13-2

That is only 3 times in 16 years that they have not made it past the 2nd round.

Thats 4 State Champion games (with 4 wins after Saturday)  ;)
4 Semi-Final finishes.  So half of the past 16 years, Aledo has made it to at least the State Semi-Finals or Championship game.  Also, note they are undefeated in State Championship games the past 16 years.

Now all that being said, I do expect a great game Saturday.  Nobody gets this far without having an excellent team.  I do think Aledo will win because of our offense and the fact that the defense has improved through the course of this season more than any other defense we have ever had.

Safe travels to all who are coming up to Arlington this weekend.  It will be a great time!

Sorry but that is kind of ridiculous to even say. Fact of the matter is HE DOES play on that team. I am pretty sure you look at a lot of teams, take away their star player and they don't win the same amount of games or make it quite as far in the playoffs. Don't hate on someone else because of the atheletes they have. If I misunderstood your meaning, then my apologies. But that player is part of the team. A lot like Midland Lee with Cedric Benson, which you can say take him away and they wouldn't have won 3. But there were 10 other players on Offense which helped him be successful

Nobody is hating. Its just s fact aledo has the best rb in the country and I would have loved to have him at dayton the last 4 years because then we would be working on our third ring. Also there is a big difference between winning playoff games and winning rings. Aledo will be a good team when jg leaves im sure but most likely not a championship team.

I think Manvel is gonna win this. Offense wins games but defense wins championships and Manvel's defense will find a way to stop Aledo.
they don't have to stop aledo just stop j. Gray
I don't think we can stop him, but we need to keep him under control!  LT did an excellent job on him and will have to simulate that performance.

Well let's just say for a minute that the Manvel D is as good as lake Travis. We still scored 35. J Gray had  257 and 4 touchdowns. We scored 14 points more than any LT opponent. So if your D is just as good as LT you will have to score more than 35. Our D just held a 3200 yard rusher to 91, they have made much improvement since week 3. If you stop J Gray you will be the first. Matt B is also no slouch at QB, with 2500 yards and only like 5 pics.

This is a tough one to call...2 weeks ago I'd have said Manvel in a landslide but they've had some mediocre performances the last two weeks.  Manvel, Katy, and Brenham were the best defenses I saw this year.  Aledo has the best offense and the best player, but Manvel is not behind by much offensively.  Manvel CANNOT make the mistakes they've made thus far in the playoffs and win this game.  Gonna be a great one to watch on tv....would be nice to go back to some neutral sites so us Southern Texas folks can actually attend a state game once in awhile.

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
