Vidor - Crosby, Thursday at Lamar, 7:30

As to the 3-3-5, I will defer to your knowledge of the team.  I have not seen all the Crosby games, but I do not remember coming out of this Defense.  And interestingly, it could be quite the curveball for Vidor.  Lately, we have been looking at 5 and 6 man (or more) fronts.

As to the Kicking Game, I appreciate your feedback.  Of the games I saw,  WTH would be a good description.  Our special teams play has not been spectacular this year.  It seems like it has been solid but very few big plays either way.

On the blocking scheme, it did seem effective when I saw it.  The LBs were not blowing up the plays at the LOS very often.

I also agree that you run the ball more than you pass.  And your QB is very effective running the ball.  But I saw some Big Homerun passing plays for yall!  Vidor DBs better not fall asleep.

Vidor's offense is quite unique.  And when it is run right, it can be very frustrating for the Defense.  And this has been a good year for the Pirate offense.  But it is no secret that 2 of our RBs are not healthy.  Only time will tell, how much they will play and how effective their replacements will be on the Big Stage.

As to the outcome, I think you are right about the Early Lead being very important.

I think there could be a lot of points scored by both teams.

I know this is cliche to say, but I predict the game comes down to Turnovers.  Whoever gives the ball is way will have a hard time rebounding.

The Pirate offensive line has been the key to our success all year. Our blocking execution reminds me of PNG back in the 70s; not real big but quick and no blown assignments. I don't think I've ever seen Vidor execute as well on offense in my 30+ years of watching them. Personally, I believe we can plug any of our running backs into this system and they will do well, like Jeremy Stephenson. All year long we have controlled the ball and the clock. We just need to keep it up come Thursday and the Pirates will do just fine....NO TURNOVERS! Watch out for Montana to pull back and heave one down the field to Smith, Whitmire or Powell. Crosby might lose a jock strap on that one if they're not careful....

Why was this game scheduled for a Thursday? I do not understand what advantage either team would gain by playing with a short week of practice.

I am wondering the same thing. But i bet it had something to do with getting a neutral place that was close and getting it on a day it wasn't already taken.

Because Nederland is playing at Lamar Friday night, Ozen plays at Da Butch Friday and PNG plays at Da Butch on Saturday.  I personally think there should have been an early game and a late game Saturday so that no team had to play on Thursday.

Westbrook plays @ Da Butch. Ozen goes to the hill.

The 3-3-5 works when the DL can command double teams.  If not, things get dicey.
[/quote]

47 commands and beats double teams regularly, corner stone to our defense, also 46 seems to take up defenders by pressing the whole.

1 Question about the vidor offense... Your misdirection that you point out, does it involve the use of back fakes.

Like for example FB gets a fake followed by handoff to opposite side, or is it a counter variant offense. Where everyone fakes one way then goes the other?

If you are interested, I found the above 5 minute highlight video.  It is obviously not our team, but you will get the basic idea of the offense.

I am a Vidor fan, so it will come as no surprise that I hope your players take 3 or 4 quarters to figure it out.  ;)

But I have seen your team on film this year.  Crosby is a really good team that is coming off a Huge win.  I expect a dogfight.

Wow. That's some great video there. Did you notice it played the same song that was played at Matt's funeral. That made it even better.

oh and btw did you see that block at 0:50! Man what a block!

Paul Pewitt is always a good deep east Texas team. The thing about them is they usually have at least as many athletes as opposing teams. I saw kids running away from defenses.

This is what hurts Vidor a little. They actually do have some decent speed, but they don't have the big homerun hitters that teams like Omaha Pewitt have had. But Vidor sounds like they execute well and play sound defense so I expect a slobberknocker as well.

    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!

    • Come on dude, don’t take anything away from the kids on the field. If you want to talk uncharacteristic, we made what 3 or 4 errors in game one. Y’all had 2 EARNED runs.  Defense is normally our strong suit. Your ace didn’t strike out a single one of our kids. Like I said also, you did not out hit us in game 1. Hell you barley out hit us in game 2. We had all the uncharacteristic walks. Josh pitched a hell of a game is what made that game what it was.
