The article says the 35 INT's happened in 1956.  I didn't know they threw the ball in the 50's.  ;D

He played 56'-58', and had 55 INT's in his career at Brenham.  He holds the national record in single season INT's, and is 2nd in career INT's. (Behind Splendora's, Donald Moore who had 59 in his career.)

I saw Donald Moore play against Kountze in HS, he was a great HS RB who didn't pan out in college.  He seemed to have it all, speed and shiftyness.  You just never know if a kid has it between the ears to make it.

Did anyone on the board ever read the Sport Illustrated article about Ken Hall in the early 80's?  It was titled "Whatever happened to the Sugarland Express" and is my alltime favorite SI artlcle.  Was really enlightening and shows that a great HS player has to make the right college decision for his career to advance.  My favorite quote in that article was Bear Bryant saying something like "how I handled Ken Hall was the worst  mistake in my coaching career".

If he is still alive I don't know but think I would have heard of his passing.  Last I knew, he owned a Barbaque restuarant in Fredickburg Tx.  Ate the in the mid 80's and he had some memorbilia in the store and the food was good.  He had retired from a career with Imperial Sugar and had spent a good deal of time in California with the company before retiring in Texas.  I don't know if you can lookup old articles on SI but that is worth anybody's time who likes Texas HS football.

That is it my friend and I had found it a little while ago, read again and was about to post it on here.  Thanks for doing so and I hope all you HS football junkies, young and old will read it.  And yes, there really were some good athletes "back in the day" who could play the game.  They all just don't play now!

I remember reading an article a few years ago talking about the explosion of the passing game in football in the 1950s. The article was saying that the "Run and Shoot" was originally started in the 50s. I can't remember if it was talking about Pro, College, High School or all of football though.

Donald Moore has been a personal friend of mine for way over thirty years, And is one of the greatest football players in Texas History! Not only does he hold the interception record but I watched him catch Eric Dickerson from behind when Splendora played Sealy for the area championship about five times. He was at Texas Tech his Freshmen year and was starting at right corner and came home during the season cause of personal problems. Two years later he went back to Tyler Jr. College for two years and set JUCO rushing records that remain unbroken. He did have the talent to play Pro but he had a family at this time and everyone had to eat. He is a student of the game still today and I wished he could have Coached my boys, He is a fine man and someone that always played the game the right way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He had some serious talent!!!!  For a white guy he could go.  Surely he was a consistent 4.4 or better 40 guy.  Thanks for updating the rest of the story.  I am sure he has no regrets but I second your opinion that he had the raw talent to play at the highest level.

    Ken Hall is still alive at 75 years young and still considered the Greatest High School Player of all time,
