Mr. Colbert is a good man, I've seen his resume.  And one of the reasons that I will give him a bit longer before judging him is that he has a bit of work to do in undoing the work of not only his predecessor the but the superintendent before him.

No doubt about that and things that he has said make me feel a bit better about the selection process for the next football coach.  But what was told to me still nags at me.  I will hope that the decision made shows that I need to find other sources for my information.

As to Mr. Hill, I could not agree more.  He seems to be in tune with what needs to happen at WO-S.  His predecessor, however, was a CLASSIC example of what I was talking about.

It's going to take a little longer than a month or two to undo what has been done over the last 10 years or so. We are taking steps in the right direction and that is positive. I understand what you are saying about giving him time but let's just make sure we are looking ahead and not behind. That being said, it's important to remember the past so we don't repeat it but we have to continue to push forward.

Just throwing this out there. It may not mean anything, but if they wanted to give the job to Cornell or Toby, they could give it to either one and not even have to post the job. When you promote from within you don't have to post the opening. Just something to think about.

I'm not sure that's correct. As I understand it you can promote from within when only one person applies. When more than one applies then you have to post the opening.

I'm not saying I know this for a fact because I didn't look it up. However, I was told by AD and Super that this is the way it had to be done.

At one time, I thought it was the case that you didn't have to post it if you promoted from within.  However, I was corrected on that when the Kirbyville AD/HC search was going on.

It does have to be posted regardless of whether or not the district is intending to promote from within.

Although I fear that having two assistants apply for the head coach job will create some hard feelings, I would hope that neither Cornel Thompson nor Toby Foreman is demonized in this process.

I think I have made crystal clear that I think Cornel Thompson should be the next head football coach at West Orange-Stark and feel just as strongly about that today as ever.  However, one thing that I refuse to do is to BLAME Toby Foreman for desiring and seeking the head coaching position.  He has committed no crime in doing so.  What he has done is to merely covet this job in the school district in which he grew up and has spent nearly all of his professional life, much like Cornel himself.  That he has decided to put his hat in the ring does not make him any less of a good man than when he was merely Dan Hooks' offensive coordinator.  I certainly hope that he has not received undue grief from the community because of his decision to apply for the job and I hope that this process doesn't leave a bitter taste in his mouth about his school if he doesn't get the job.

    • What the writer stated wrt crossover votes in the primary/runoff: "Covey and his supporters Paxton and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Phelan only won because Democrats crossed over to vote in the Republican Primary for him. Paxton said Covey’s campaign identified “at least” 1,442 Democrats who voted early in Jefferson County in the primary runoff. The Covey campaign has not released its methodology behind its claim, but  This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up  by The Texan news website found that 9% of Republican voters in the March District 21 primary had voted in one of the previous four Democratic primaries. However, only 5% of that group had voted in all four previous Democratic primaries. What Phelan’s opponents did not mention is historically Democratic Jefferson County is undergoing a political transition towards the Republican party — the county judge switched his affiliation to the GOP in 2017 — so many residents have a mixed primary voting history. And Phelan’s allies in the House dismissed the idea that liberals swung the election. "I knocked on doors, hundreds and hundreds of doors, made calls for Dade,” Republican Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano, said on Mark Davis’ radio program Wednesday. “I did not speak to a single Democrat down here in HD21. Not a single one." "
