WO-S Kicker/Extra Point Attempts

Coming of a 1-point loss to Friendswood 2-weeks ago, and having missed 3 extra point attempts (2-point conversions). Will Hooks let the young kicker for the 'Stangs try his hand at some traditional extra-point attempts this Friday evening against the visiting Jasper Bulldogs? I’d like to see it. What are your thoughts Mustang FANS?!  :)

I know the kicker is being worked with.If Dan thinks he is not ready I don't see him throwing him out there.I beleive that is why he went for two when we played FW.

the kicker is my son. he did kickoffs and punted last year. this is his first year to attempt fg's and xp's. he came in late this year and "kicker" has been working with him since week 1. hes a good athlete and has a strong leg, he just needs fine tune a few things, adjust, and let the nerves go. hes been working his tail off and will be ready when the coaches give him the nod.

He will get it figured out. Kicking is a lonely place sometimes. I know I couldn't do it

Any WOS fans remember the name "Raul Ponce" ?
The kid who knocked you guys out of playoffs in '05 from Huffman.  ;) One heck of a kicker. How long was the FG that won the game? That was a GOOD game, though.  ;D

You would think that someone to bring up history, they would get the facts right ;D.It was '04.Your right it was a good game and just shows the importance of a good kicker.

Being a kicker is a long frustruting lonely road. I hope they keep giving him opportunities and one day it will just click. Good luck.

Message to those sitting in the stands. 
While the absolute pressure is put on the kicker---- we must also remember it takes a good snap and a good hold to give the kicker the opportunity to do his thing.  HS teams really need to work and practice on this aspect of the game.  Practicing kicking is often done on the side and really needs to practiced in a real time environment. 

My nephew was a deep snapper at Baytown Lee when they were playing pretty well.  He said in the middle of practice scrimmage when nobody would expect it the coaches would blow the whistle and holler ----field goal team --and they had 30 seconds to assemble and get it through the uprights.  I thought this was a great idea.  It can make the difference in the outcome of a game.

I can not imagine the pressure he feels out there. With him on the field getting ready to kick, I could literally feel my body get all tense and nervous for him! I imagine it is very different from kicking by yourself on the sidelines and not having those big heavy boys charging at you! I know the boy has been doing some good things at practice. I hope he is able to concentrate and keep it up at the game. I have faith in him and hope lots of fans do too. GO MUSTANGS!!!!

This is so true.A lot of other things have to happen right, even before the kick is attempted.

How can this happen year and year out.  What are they doing during the offseason!!!  This should not be a problem at a school with as good as coaching as they have.

I think our kicking game has been severely overlooked in the recent years and should be given more attention than it is given. The kicking game could have helped us drastically in a few playoff games!

I can tell you that the kicking game being overlooked and not practiced enough is a problem in almost every school. How many schools out there would love to have a kid who can hit 40-45 yard FG's and punt between 50-60 yards and kickoff between 50-60 yards,but only practice about 5 FG's in practice, 5 punts in practice and a couple of kickoffs?

I agree but 50 to 60 yard punts are a little much for high school.I think most are in the mid 40s for a good punt.JMO.

The numbers I posted are not for the WOS kicker I have not idea what this young man can or is doing. I should have made that clear in the previous post. The 50-60 yard punts are not based on anything, but I have seen this year a High School punter who can stand on the 50 yard line and punt the ball to the endzone consistantly.
