No reflection on any OF people of today, but that was a terrible night that should have never, ever happened.

I agree totally BucFan....I'm sure both OF or Kountze (especially Kountze)..don't want to be reminded of such an act...I don't understand why it was even posted.. I realize people still read newspapers, but what's the point of "digging up bones" and reviving old feelings...JMO

Ted Tate and his Kountze Lions beat Newton 66-6 in 1969. Thank God Newton did not change coaches and won state in 1974 with the same staff. Curtis Barbay lost to Sealy 83-6 in a playoff game and it was hard to sit and watch, but sometimes these things make you stronger. Kountze went on a memorable losing spree after this, maybe they should have stayed the course with the coach, who knows. It's always easy to look back and say what should have happened. Orangefield did not make the playoffs that year was interesting part of story IMO.

Well guys I remember this game, and it actually could have been a lot worse. JV played the entire 2nd half from what I remember and it's not like Orangefield was throwing the ball down field every play. They ran the veer and Kountze couldn't stop it...even when the 3rd string and JV were in the game. I talked to some buddies yesterday about this game and they told me that Orangefield even started punting the ball on first down late in the game...one punt was muffed and an Orangefield player picked it up and walked in the endzone. It was just that kind of night!!! So guys you need to back off on this running the score up crap, if you weren't there, then you don't know what happen. Can't go off of a newspaper article that's over 30 years old.

Why? Does information somehow become inaccurate because time passes?

I understand your sensitivity to the whole issue, and I feel this subject should not have been brought up in the first place. But lets be honest, the OF philosophy at the time was "take no prisoners". I experienced that first hand in other games during that era vs. OF. (Again, no reflection on the OF of today.)

Bobkat is right. I know because I played in the game. One of the kountze players took his pads off in the middle of the field and walked off. They simply gave up that night. We were running QB sneaks for 80 yards and a touchdown. You cannot tell kids who never get to play to lay down. Did not throw 1 single pass in the second half. Alot of players from kountze quit before that game. Kountze got some revenge in basketball. I believe something to the tune of 80 something to 20 something.

The QB ran often as a part of the OF offensive plan the whole season. That was part of other huge blowouts during that era. Believe me I know.

QB sneaks were only ran in short yardage situations.

If it was a true veer offense the QB basically was a running back. According to play being called inside or outside, he always had the option to run.

This is true and in a true veer the QB's first read was to the halfback diving between guard and tackle or in the wide veer he would read the defensive end. But never in the veer was an option of QB sneak unless that play was called and again it was only called in short yardage situation.

Easy there orange bleed. Your taking wild shots that can't be substantiated. Purpleeagle should not have put that weasel post in, but don't go off the deep end with wild accusations. SATs, give me some numbers that can be verified, or is this something "that everyone knows" as the old line goes. Just because you can beat somebody 99-0 still don't mean you should. If that was the case Orangefield could have been on that 0 end many times playing against Newton.
