Fog can only delay Eagles for so long

MONT BELVIEU – Fog filled the baseball diamond Thursday night at the Barbers Hill Baseball Tournament when the Eagles hosted the North Forest Bulldogs, delaying the game for about a half hour.

The delay came right after a triple from Barbers Hill’s Tyler Lyday. The hit brought home teammate Ethan Jeffcoat to tie the game up at 1-1, and North Forest outfielders said they couldn’t see the ball.

After about 30 minutes, the teams returned to action, and the Eagles poured it on, scoring 11 unanswered runs to win 12-1.

The game was eventually called at the bottom of the fifth inning, but this time, it had nothing to do with fog. The mercy rule kicked in.

The next two runs came at the bottom of the second inning when Grayson Long singled to bring home James Santana, and Blayne McDonald to go up 3-1. Daniel Mitchell later had a sacrifice fly and an RBI to go up 4-1.

The Eagles continued to pour it on in the third inning.

Tyler Newcomb singled and came home off an error to put his team up 5-1.

Mitchell added to it by doubling home McDonald and Santana, before running home himself, spreading the lead to 8-1.

The bottom of the fourth inning was the last for the Eagles’ offense.

Brian Meyer subbed in for Blake Bonnin and homered to center field, putting his team up 9-1.

Following the home run, Newcomb singled before stealing second and advancing to third on an error. He then ran home off of Long’s bat. That put the Eagles up 10-1.

Cole Young subbed for McDonald and added the team’s 11th run before Coleman Blaylock, who subbed for Jeffcoat, scored on an error to put the nail in the coffin and sealed up the victory.

The Eagles’ next game is set for today at 12:30 p.m. when they host Coldspring. They host Dayton at 8 p.m. also today.

I know how you feel. In the article today about the GCM game, they referred to Taylor O'Connor as the SS and even quoted Coach Rupp as referring to Taylor's play at SS. Funny thing is, Taylor plays 3rd base and I'm quite sure Rupp knows that.

LaMarque backed out of tournament so they went to a round robin instead which has convoluted the bracket.  I believe Dayton beat Coldspring yesterday.  Crosby is playing King now.

I'm suprised so many 19-4A teams are playing in this tournament. Seems like they are showing their "cards" a little early.

LaMarque has backed out before...why keep inviting them ? You gain absolutely nothing by playing them in baseball anyway.
