He appeared to be dropping a bit, getting down to about .406, but he's 6 for his last 8 over two games to get back up to .426.  what do you guys think?

nah. chipper came very close last year, but dropped rapidly towards  the end. it's too tough..

two advantages mauer has over chipper... he's only 26, and he has much better hitters around him, so he'll see better pitches.  i agree, though, it's highly unlikely, although 4-4 last night and 7 of his last 9 will certainly help.

The MAJOR disadvantage for Mauer is that he is a catcher. Catching 140-150 games in 185 days takes a toll on your body. In his career Mauer hits about 30 points lower in the 2nd half of the year. It will be fun to watch to see if he can hang on.

at least he's in the AL.  if it comes down to the last month of the season, and he still has a shot, maybe he'll get some games at DH to keep him fresh.

I doubt they'll do that.. the coach will be more worried about the team winning than Mauer hitting .400.

But if they're out of it, then it wouldn't surprise me to see him DH.
