Manny Suspended 50 Games

Recommended Posts

Major League Baseball announced Thursday that Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez has been suspended for 50 games for violating its drug policy.

    “

Ramirez LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I'm sorry about this whole situation.

The commissioner's office didn't announce the specific violation by Ramirez, but in a statement Thursday provided by Major League Baseball, Ramirez attributed the violation to medication he had been prescribed by a doctor.

"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," Ramirez said. "Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now.

"I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons. I want to apologize to [Dodgers owner Frank] McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, [manager Joe] Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I'm sorry about this whole situation."

After consultation with the Players' Association and his personal representatives, Ramirez waived his right to challenge the suspension. He will lose nearly $8 million of his $25 million salary.

Ramirez's test result was first reported by the Los Angeles Times.

I was listening to Mike and Mike this morning on the way to work and they brought up the fact that the punishment isn't serve enough.  They talked about a punishment similar to that of track and field and the olympics.  If you are caught then all records are stripped and you are banned for 2 years.  Should this be done in baseball?

CHEATER!!!

WOW!!! this coming from someone who uses ty cobb as his screen name, cobbs picture, and quotes ty cobb...  :o

Cobb wasn't a cheater.  He was a mean son of a gun, but not a cheater.  Manny, on the other hand, is a cheater!!!

soooo sharpening your spikes and sliding feet high isnt cheating???

Not at all.  That's called "spiking".  Middle infielder's get spiked all the time.  Spiking is not banned from the game.  What Manny did is against the rules of the game.  He's a cheater.

correct, infielders get spiked, but i wouldnt say all of the time. what cobb did was absolutely against the rules! he SHARPENED his spikes and went in high on the middle infielders to steal bases. they knew what he would do and they wouldnt apply the tag! that my good man is CHEATING. now i wonder how many stolenbases he would have had he not done that??

the only difference is manny chose to hurt himself to be better, cobb chose to hurt others!

For the last time, spiking an infielder is not against the rules. (Espically back in the time when Cobb played)  Spiking an infielder, to break up a play, is just like hitting a batter after your batter has been hit.  It's just part of the game.  Has the game changed?  Of course, it has changed.  The hitters now days get mad if the ball is 2 inches inside and I'm sure a runner would be thrown out of a game if they went in spikes high like Cobb did.  The difference is, it was not against the rules when Cobb played.  Manny knew the rules and cheated anyway.  How many stolen bases would Cobb have if he didn't slide this way?  I have no clue.  How many homeruns, no, how many hits would Manny have if he didn't cheat?

You go in hard but you DO NOT go in spikes high especially sharpened spikes high with the intent of hurting another player! Ive read numerous articles concerning Cobb and his spikes and I have yet to read one that doesnt say hes a cheat! Against the rules or not he CHEATED! Heres a few more for ya--Corked bats, Vaseline on the baseball, sharpening spikes, excessive pine tar, teams that cut the field grass or sculpt the baselines a certain way to give their speedier players an advantage or take away speed of another team, thumbtacks in the 3rd baseman’s glove to nick up the baseball, catchers with larger mitts to appear to catch the ball over the plate, sign stealing or tipping, you name it, players and coaches have been doing it!

Cheating is Cheating...

To deal with the Cobb issue he liked to win classless or not he was a stud. If a infielder was smart he would swipe the tag and not hold it down. Slap him across the face with the tag and show him your not scared. Back to Manny he used fertility drugs which are used to produce tesosterone after the use of steroids bc they produce it for you and. This drug gets your body back to creating it and repairs the body. I would make it a yr suspension and on a repeated offense banned for life. If you ban Rose you gotta ban these cheats for life.

    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
    • See why I don't trust my Hogs?
    • Come on dude, don’t take anything away from the kids on the field. If you want to talk uncharacteristic, we made what 3 or 4 errors in game one. Y’all had 2 EARNED runs.  Defense is normally our strong suit. Your ace didn’t strike out a single one of our kids. Like I said also, you did not out hit us in game 1. Hell you barley out hit us in game 2. We had all the uncharacteristic walks. Josh pitched a hell of a game is what made that game what it was.
