2012: Would UNT come to Beaumont?

Recommended Posts

Assuming Todd Dodge is still in Denton, would North Texas travel to Southeast Texas?  More like us going to Denton.......UNT must be financially strapped if they're playing road games at Kansas St. and LSU.  But Riley Dodge will be fun to watch.

North Texas can not travel to Beaumont. Sun Belt rules prohibit schools from traveling to FCS institutions. TexasStud, the whole Sun Belt conference plays two money games a year (a third sometimes, but then again -- they work it out where it's a neutral site like ULM is 'hosting' Arkansas in Little Rock).

Financially strapped?  Not really.  But the extra cash does come it handy.  It allows a program like North Texas to bring well known programs to teh home field.  North Texas will host Kansas State next year in Denton.  Most non-BCS programs play one or two recognized BSC teams for that possible upset, like ULM upsetting Alabama, or Troy beating Oklahoma State.  NT also has a multi game series with Army coming up in a few years.

NT was supposed to play Univ. of Miami (Florida) this season for something like $400,000.  LSU came along and offered NT $850,000.  What would you do?  Tough to pass up.  NT's goal is to only play one "money" game a year like most non-BCS programs.

For Lamar to host a FBS program in Beaumont, they have to come up with some serious money.  I doubt even a North Texas would come to Beaumont for less than $150,000 to $200,000.

Factoid:  Did you know that North Texas hosted Florida State in Denton back in 1974 I believe.  NT lost by one point in six inches of snow!

I certainly wasn't dissin' UNT, so relax and get off the soapbox.  The secondary will not get shredded this season, hopefully.

No soapbox here.  And I did not take your question as "dissin" North Texas.  Heck, I wish they would come to Beaumont.  At least I wouldn't have to travel 700 miles RT to see them play. ;D

Peace, my friend.

If you guys haven't checked out www.anygivensaturday.com please do. Texas Terror likes to post everything from the LU board on there for the entire FCS world to see. There is great info about the subdivision and what's going on in the entire FCS world. Frankly, I'm tired of trying to keep the positive spin on LU there. A little help.

I post everything from every SLC board -- from transfer information, to facility upgrades and more. AGS is a community, the best FCS community on the net and the poll -- the AGS Poll -- does a better job than any other poll, Sports Network, Coaches, etc because we are a well-informed group of individuals from a cross-section of the country.

Both positive and negative remarks...just as you'd come to expect on this board. Lots of news articles posted (when HouTexan does not beat me to it), talk about the expansion of the SLC, coaches, facilities, recruiting, etc.

When you guys are starting to pay attention to FCS when the Cards on the gridiron, you'll understand...

The College Sporting News/Any Given Saturday partnership does a lot more good for FCS than you'd imagine. The AGS top 25 poll even gets in press releases and the preseason poll makes it into media guides. A fan message board with a top 25 poll doing that? Yep -- and it's a more accurate and fare assessor than Sports Network (media), SME (broadcasters) and CCA (coaches) and has been proven as such year and year again.

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
