California’s “jock taxes,” force pro athletes who don’t live in the state to fork over percentages of their yearly income based on the number of days they work in California. Darnold received $178k for winning the Super Bowl. He owes California $249k.

California looks at what they call "duty days".  Darnold spent 7 "duty days" there.  What they do is add the Super Bowl winnings to his regular salary and then is taxed at 3.5%.  That's how they got the $249k.  It ended up costing him $71,000 to play in the Super Bowl.  Another bad part about this is the next Super Bowl is in LA!  So, unless something happens this will happen again.  The NFL should boycott California for any future Super Bowls.  At least until they drop this jock tax.

And California still runs massive deficits!  This is what commie States do!
