No-look1 Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago 20 minutes ago, AggiesAreWe said: From my vantage point (press table, mid court, on the floor): Huntington made a free throw to put themselves up 48-46 with 10 seconds left. EC inbounded and raced up the floor and tried to penetrate to draw a foul. Ball was knocked out of bounds off of Huntington but the clock hit zero when ball went out of bounds. Several folks thought the game was over (particularly Huntington folks). Officials came together and decided that there was .5 seconds left on clock. During that discussion lot's of tempers were flaring from all sides. Once it was determined that time was still left and EC would inbounds under their own basket, Huntington coach was on the court trying to instruct his team to defend the inbounds play. While doing this he a little far out on the floor and an official was encouraging him to get back on the sideline. Words were then fired back and forth from the head coach to an assistant for EC. It got really heated and the Huntington coach lost his cool and received a technical foul. That sent an EC player to the line and he made both free throws to tie the game at 48. This didn't sit well with the Huntington coach, team and it's fans. Things really started getting out of hand and some fans were escorted out. Things got very chaotic and with the officials and school admins trying to get some order. Before play would resume, a player for Huntington basically lost it and he received a technical foul which sent EC back to the line to shoot two more free throws. Player made both. By this time things were just about out of control. Huntington players were very distraught. Head coach walked off the floor. EC inbounded with no defense by Huntington. Game ended. EC won 50-48. It was a terrible way for this game to end. Huntington did not deserve to lose this way and I know EC wasn't too thrilled about winning in this manner. Just a complete shame that such a good game ended this way. Needless to say that Huntington will not be returning tomorrow for Gold 3rd place game vs. Vidor. I really hate it ended this way. Wow! What a bad way to end a game. Lots of emotions Quote
No-look1 Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago Maybe a learning experience. Just glad it wasn’t a playoff game. Quote
AggiesAreWe Posted 11 hours ago Author Report Posted 11 hours ago I edited my post to reflect some clarifications on a couple of things that happened. Both techs were on the head coach, not a player. That is why he left the court. Coach asked to receive the 2nd tech. I guess he had enough. Officials and admins were trying to calm him down in hopes that he and his team could finish the game. Again, just a bad ending all around. Quote

Sounds like tempers and emotions were out of control everywhere. AggiesAreWe 1 Quote

weonlyrun28toss Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago without replay how on earth did they get 0.5 seconds? sounds like refs were like EC is down by 2 lets give them another shot to win this. Quote
BD54 Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago I couldn’t hear it on the Hudl cam it looked like the EC coach said something to the Huntington coach and they just started jawing at each other. I’m not sure why an official would tech up one coach in that situation when they are both going at each other. Not taking either teams side, just an observation on our wonderful officiating chapter. Actually, Hudl video showed that 1 second should have been put on the clock, not .5, But I get what you are saying. I completely disagree with your last statement. Officials just wanted to get it right. No-look1 1 Quote

The Huntington coach was much more demonstrative with his language and that caught the attention of the official. Plus he was well out on the floor (practically in the EC bench area at times). That's what got him the first tech. IMO, it should have been no tech or a double tech in that situation. I will say, the officials and admins at the game were doing their best to calm the Huntington HC down. They were trying to keep him from getting a tech. BD54 1 Quote
AggiesAreWe Posted 1 hour ago Author Report Posted 1 hour ago For clarification purposes, Coach Sutherland not once asked the officials to put time on the clock. That was completely their decision to come together and discuss. He was like me, thought the game was over. No-look1 1 Quote
