UIL Rule Question

My understanding is there’s no mercy rule for 11 man Football. So what is allowed and how does that work. Anytime after halftime coaches can agree to end contest? Are agree to just let the clock run? Coach wave’s across the field to the other coach  to say let the clock run? I noticed Newton was ahead big time at halftime, that triggered something. Also the Hemphill game they just let the clock run after the 3rd qtr. just a fan not a coach would like to understand what’s going on behind the scene with the coaches in games like this.

this is the rule:

Timing Adjustments—ARTICLE 2

Approved Ruling 3-2-2

I. At halftime the score is 56-0. The coaches and the referee agree that the third and fourth quarters should be shortened to 12 minutes each. The coaches also request that the second half be played with a “running clock,” i.e., that the game clock not be stopped. RULING: The remaining quarters may be shortened to 12 minutes each. However, the “running clock” is not allowed; normal clock rules apply for the entire game.

That being said as long as both coaches agree they just run the clock in high school.

The remaining quarters may be shortened to 12 minutes each?

High school varsity contests are already played with 4 12 minute quarters.

    • Tim Erickson from Orangefield….
    • Lucky for Orangefield there’s only 3 games max to play.    Someone said they had a pitcher or 2 throw 90’s but I don’t know that for a fact.  Rumors.   it appears that Orangefield will see some faster pitchers this round. Generally speaking I haven’t been too impressed with Orangefield opponents pitching. Only pitcher so far that was fast (92 mph) was vs Woodville in first game & Orangefield got several runs off of him.    Looking for a good series with no injuries for both teams.
    • Apologies if this is a stupid question, but why would they just not renew his contract for the 24/25 school year if he had multiple write-ups? I know teachers and paraprofessionals don't get their contract renewed if their performance is bad enough - are coaches' contract situations different?

    • It’s very difficult to fire an educator.  It’s not difficult to reassign them and put them in a situation where they’re likely to leave on their own.  I’m not sure of the legality of exposing an employee’s work records, but it seems likely it’s not allowed if nothing criminal took place.
