BH Defeats H-J in Championship Game, 10-3 Ross Hales recorded 10 Ks in the win Barbers Hill once again got a solid pitching performance and a couple of long balls in downing Hardin-Jefferson in the championship game of the 19th Annual Barbers Hill Invitational Baseball Tournament. The tournament win gives Barbers Hill a 12-0 season record and their second tournament trophy. Barbers Hill will travel to West Orange-Stark on Thursday of next week and host Silsbee on Tuesday, March 21 to close out the pre-district schedule. Sophmore Ross Hales went 5 1/3 innings striking out 10 and allowed only 1 hit. Though he only gave up one hit, Hales had to work out of mini-jams in all but 2 innings. He gave up 5 base-on-balls and had 2 batters reach base after striking out. Also, BH committed 3 errors while Hales was on the mound. The Hawks threatened to score in their first at-bat. The lead-off batter struck out but reach when the ball bounced away from the catcher. After a steal and sacrifice put the H-J runner on 3rd, Hales struck out the next two to end the inning. Hales again struck out the last 2 batters in the 2nd after walking to first 2. In the 3rd, H-J lead off with a single. After a strikeout of the next batter, a Hawk runner was thrown out trying to steal. Hales once again got a strikeout but the runner reach when the BH catcher made an errant throw to first. Hales then ended the inning with another strike out. Mean while, Barbers Hill was able to scratch out 3 runs against H-J pitcher, Jake Brunson. In the first, Chase Barrera single and Colby Townley walked. Derek Hulsey sacrificed both runners. Cameron Campbell popped up to the first baseman but when the fielder fell, Barrera raced home. Momments later, Townley scored when Michael Padgett stole second after receiving a walk. BH scored once in the second on an error, a sacrifice and an RBI single by Townley. In the 4th and 5th innings, Barbers Hill tacked on 2 runs in each inning using the long ball. First, Townley connected on a 2 out 2-run homerun. Then Octavio Carmona hit his 4th of the year scoring Padgett who had single ahead of him. Both teams added runs in the fifth inning. H-J got their first 2 batters on base via a walk and an error on the second baseman. Hales then got his 10th K of the game but loaded the bases on another walk. Carmona relieved Hales and got out of trouble with an RBI fielder's choice and a fly out to right. Barbers Hill then added 3 more runs when Hardin-Jefferson committed 2 consecutive errors and hit the next batter. BH then scored on RBI singles by Padgett and Carmona and a sacrifice fly by John Loranger. In the top of the 7th, the Hawks added 2 more runs on a walk and consecutive doubles. Carmona then got a strikeout and a fly out to right ending the game. The tournament MVP was Colby Townley. All-Tournament selections for Barbers Hill went to Michael Padgett, Chase Barrera, Ross Hale, Cameron Campbell and Octavio Carmona. 3rd Place Game: C.E.   2. I just drove by the field and the BH / HJ game that was suposed to begin at 7:00 started way late. At 8:30 it was in the 1st inning BH was up 1-0. as soon as I see an update I'll post.
  3. Bouyed by 4 homeruns in the last 3 innings, Barbers Hill advanced to the finals of the 19th Annual Barbers Hill Invitational by downing C.E. King 10-0 in 5 innings. The Eagles will face Hardin-Jefferson in the tournament final. After 2 scoreless innings, Barbers Hill plated 4 runs in the third. Catcher Jake Ponder got a one-out hit to right. Ponder then stole second before courtsey runner Amondo Fuentes took over. Fuentes advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on Colby Townley's triple after 2 outs. Townley raced home on another wild pitch. Derek Hulsey continued the inning by skying one over the left field fence for his first homerun of the season. Cameron Campbell followed Hulsey with a shot of his own. Campbell's homerun would be his first of two. After starting pitcher Bailey Glandt shut down the Panthers, the Eagles once again scored 4 more runs. This time C.E. King assisted BH's efforts. The King pitcher walked the first 2 batters. After a force out at third, BH received another free pass to first. Townley once again found a gap in right for his second triple and came home on the errant throw from the outfield. Barbers Hill then ended the game in dramatic fashion. Needing only 2 runs, Campbell quickly started the game ending inning by hitting his 4th homerun of the season. Michael Padgett finished off the night by connecting on his 2nd homerun of the year. Glandt ran his record to 4-0 as he record 6 strikeouts and gave up only 2 hits. Other games Hardin-Jefferson 4 Tarkington 2 - H-J survived a 7th inning scoring threat to take the win. Tarkington scored 1 run in the 7th and had the bases loaded with only one out. But H-J pitcher Treece Aaron got a strikeout and a groundout to end the threat. Sealy 14 LaMarque 2 Galveston O'Connell 15 Coldspring 1 Saturdays games 7th & 8th place La Marque Vs.   4. If they would have made their field goals on the first three TD's it would have even been better. Atleast Clmesneil got it through the uprights on the last one

  10. Ouch ! :shock: Winning Pitcher: Octavio Carmona Leading Hitters: Chase Barrera 3 hits, Colby Townley 3 hits, Octavio Carmona 2 hits including 3rd homerun of the year. The following had 2 hits on the night: Michael Padgett, Cameron Campbell, John Loranger, Kyle McDonald and Ross Hales. Barbers Hill is now 9-0 for the season and will host the Barbers Hill Invitational starting Thursday.

  13. In a battle of 2 unbeaten teams, Barbers Hill defeated Hallettsville in the championship game of the Sealy Invitational by a score of 6-1. Barbers Hill is now 8-0 on the year. Baily Glandt (3-0) went the distance striking out 8 and giving up 5 hits. Leading hitters for BH were Cameron Campbell 2/3 with a triple and 2 RBIs, Michael Padgett 2/3 with a triple, Ocatavio Carmona 2/4 and Kyle McDonald 2/3. Glandt, Carmona, Chase Barrera and Ross Hales were named to the All-Tournament team. In Friday's semi-final game, Barbers Hill had defeated host Sealy 16-5 in a game shortened due to time. Chase Barrera pitched a complete game striking out 10.
  14. Ross Hales pitched a strong 6 innings with 8 strikeouts as Barbers Hill opened the Sealy Tournament with a 7-3 win over Giddings. Octavio Carmona struckout 3 in the 7th to close out the game. Barbers Hill will play the winner between Sealy and Brazos. The leading hitters for BH: Michael Padgett solo homerun, Chase Barrera 2-2 with double and RBI, John Loranger 1-2 RBI and Carmona 1-3 with a double.
  15. Barbers Hill has a Host of Gyms that rank up there. I think they use 5 Gyms during the Annual Gulf Coast Classic they host.
  16. This was a small write up on the game. Barbers Hill used the 1 hit pitching of Bailey Glandt with some timely hitting in downing C.E. King 10-0 in 5 innings. Glandt stuckout 5 in picking up his second win of the season. Octavio Carmona lead the way at the plate hitting a 2-run homerun. Chase Barrera also had a good night as he went 2-2 with both being doubles. Barbers Hill will participate in the Sealy Tournament beginning Thursday. Barbers Hill J.V. 17 C.E.
