1. Not shocking to me that those sophs are doing well, that was a great group of kids.
2. I have to ask myself why did GCCSID hire him? Was he one of the only ones that applied? I certaily do not see what they saw in his record at CL. He had one good year with the perfect option QB but the personnel in Baytown vs CL is night and day. I just with the guy would swallow his ego and admit these kids do not fit this system. This isnt college, we cant recruit a big OL to move around the DL like they want to. Lee was busting right up the middle almost every play before the QB could even fake the handoff. Why? Maybe because there is zero threat of a play action pass and RSS goes on the snap count every play.
3. There in lies the problem. Acosta may be the best option qb available but taking a look at your talent and then deciding what offense to run would lead most reasonable coaches to adjust. This guy is determined to prove he is right no matter what, heck even his OC from last year left because he was so inflexible. When has RSS ever had any size on the line? Not in the past 20 years. I agree Acosta couldn't do anything most of the first half because he has no line but I'm not sure why that's shocking. Pats I understand Jr high success isn't a direct translation but those kids ran over north shore , barbers hill and dayton . Cbj gave north shore its first loss in years with #20 and #7 running on them. They also made a good run at Dayton, the same group now starting there as sophs that just beat 5a elkins.  Athletic wise those kids and RSS kids were very equal,  its just funny to me that they are continuing to win while suddenly RSS can't win a game. To me it boils down to one set of coaches optimizes his talent while another is so hard headed to prove he is right with his system. And speaking of heart, no one on that RSS team has more heart and will to win then #20 and its not even close.
4. The QB is too small and can not throw very well and with virtually no time from the offensive line he has no shot to set up his feet and throw. Seemed like Sterling ran up the middle about 75% of the time with only 1-2 having some success. The outside runs worked much better but it may have been that Lee was just so thin by then it started having some success. #11 Hill, #7 Vigier, #20 Cheniere were the three best backs in GCCISD in their 7th and 8th grade years. They were unstoppable. With those three running, and they are all sophs, you should be able to move the ball. To be honest, running the spread with one of them in the backfield and the other 2 split out trying to get one on one matchups would be so much more successful. The skill talent is there, it is just in the wrong system. Look at what Lee did moving the ball, it was mostly the QB just running around with the field spread out. For RSS, with 10 guys in the box it takes a miracle to break out of the pile. I dont get it, RSS has to show a threat to pass to be successful.  BH runs the same offense but it looks so much different because they have someone that can throw it or maybe a coach that is willing to throw it. Seems like RSS wins most of the undersquad games so I dont think that is any indicator of anything. Last year the freshman won like 48-0 on the A team and also big on the B team.  Sterlings best talent pool to do anything is this years sophs mixed with this years jrs. If it doesnt happen then it isnt going to happen.
Sterling will be lucky to win a game this year.  Maybe clear lake was left in such bad shape that sterling has a chance.  QB is too short to see the field and cannot throw if he could.  With no threat whatsoever to throw, teams will leave a single safety to cover the one receiver and put everyone else in all out run support. Freshman and JV won so maybe they have something coming up?
5. Nice call by the Sterling coach to "ICE" the kicker with 30 secons left on a 47 yard field goal. The kid missed it by 10 yards. Sterling was also not smart enough to put a returner in the end zone to try to run it back. Instead timeout was called and lee ran a reverse instead of kicking the next play for a 1st down that set up game winning field goal. Sterling is in big big trouble. Lee had a 2nd string QB who can barely throw and he shreaded them for most of the night. If not for injuries, cramps and lee players leaving the game this would have been over at halftime. Unfortunately for Sterling, the rest of the district has bigger and stronger bodies and will not wear down like Lee. If RSS does not beat first year program clear falls or 0-10 last year clear lake, I think they will go 0-10 again.
6. Are you going to the game tomorrow?  All of the skill players from cbj and gentrys good 8a teams from two years ago are in varsity for RSS. Looking forward to seeing how they look with these kids because if they can't get it done then it may never happen in bay town again.
I saw the first half of the Lee-Sterling freshman game at Sterling.  Man I was really hoping someone would tell me that was the B team is all I can say. I know it wasn't though, because Lee actually had one guy on the team that will probably get moved up to varsity.  He(#2) is a really good rb/db type.  I can't imagine that they have too many guys more electric than him on varsity.  Lee had maybe 5 or 6 guys that looked like they belonged on an A team.  They only had maybe 28 total.  Sterling had a couple of big guys up front, but they were very, very shaky running the option. What appeared to be Lee's #1 qb did not play.  They wrapped his ankle, and he did not play at all.  Just looking at him, he was probably the second best guy on the team behind #2.  The quarterback that did play was adequate enough.  They had another running back(#33) that got hurt who was also pretty decent though undersized.  They had a third running back(#4) that was really fast and big and surprising that he was not on the first team offense in some form or fashion.  Lee was up 6-0 at the half when I left.  Should have been 18-0 at least if the Sterling science teachers/freshman officials had not taken away two touchdowns on holding calls that were immediately followed by interceptions.  Sterling fumbled and bumbled all over the place, got maybe a first down or two in the half. Neither Lee nor Sterling has much coming up the pipeline it appears. Where the heck are all of the guys in Baytown that know how to play football.  Lee, Sterling and GCM are all very thin in terms of roster and not very big across the board.
7. Two years ago in 8th grade I thought the McBride qb kid looked like Vince young running around....I never saw him take a direct hit and I thought he passed the ball well. I look for that kid to be a stud the next 3 years. How big is he now?
8. I think with the coaching change at A&M he is no longer a commit. He was a total waste at RSS with the 3 throws a game offense.
9. Agreed 100% and the results are impressive. 17u placed 3rd out of 250 teams at the perfect game world wooden bat championship. You have kids signed with Texas, Arkansas, Tech, and TCU that I can think of off the top of my head that played on that team. The 15u placed 8th out of 150 teams at the same perfect game tournament held in Georgia. There is only one Beaumont area kid on the teams that I know and he is a Kelly kid who can really play.
10. I think the difference is the sun devils have a roster at the beginning that is the same at the end correct? Or do they between every tournament pick up new players ? The way  I see it is if you pick a team at the beginning then it should pretty much stay the same the whole summer unless you have injuries or whatever..advertising for players and getting the twitter handles of all the hot shot prospects and then asking them to call to come play for them is a little over the top. The Houston Heat and the Angels both posted rosters the day after tryouts and those kids are the same kids on the roster today. They are not out there begging for others to come play for them at the next PG tourney. In addition, who do you think pays for those kids that get picked up? They certainly are not paying, its the kids on the "banditos northwest 16u" team that have taken they bait...those gets are not getting exposed except on the diamond. One of the 15U teams they sent to PG a few weeks ago went 0-7 but I bet all of those kids paid in full LOL and get to strut around with their "B" hat on to act like they are apart of the 17u black team which I guess is exactly what they want. The sundevils were also paid in full by Chip correct? I dont think he was making any money off the group, now thats true exposure and its his money, he can recruit and do what he wants. My beef is the creation of all these below par teams to basically pay for the recruitment of some of the best talent out there from all over. I understand that the banditos have had some great underclass teams and some of those kids have stayed with the program...so why not let that same team continue to play together as the move along...surely someone is getting dropped at some point for the kid from the valley that throws 95 or whatever. Being in tomball they are surrounded by great players and Houston obvioulsy has a lot of talent so just by the numbers they are going to have some studs. Also by winning one of these national tournaments it just drives the parents more delusional into thinking if there kids weres a B on his shirt and pays the 1500 player fee then he will be drafted high too...I see it all of the time, my kid takes lesson from roger clemens therefore he is a great pitcher! Not! Some select ball is all about taking the delusional parents $$$$ and the banditos feed off of that IMHO. And like I said above, Im not talking about having teams all over the state, Im talking about having 8 teams in the 15u and 16u ages from the houston area...these are nothing more than profit centers for those guys with maybe 2 of those teams being legit top to bottom. Queston on the 28 kids with D1 rides...are you saying those kid would not have gotten the rides without playing for the banditos? I'm pretty sure if you can throw 93 and are a stud at your high school you are going to get seen and exposed without playing for the banditos....do you think hawkins wouldnt have been a first round pick if he had played for say the corpus christi waves instead of the houston banditos?  Im pretty sure Josh Beckett would have still went to the marlins and been named world series mvp even if he had not played for the angels right? What about Naquin with the heat, maybe him being a stud at A&M had more to do with his draft position then what select group you play for? My thought is select ball helps with some exposure but it isnt going to make or break you....it lets you play against  better top to bottom talent then you would on the high school level in most cases but if you can play, you can play and you will be found. Now if you are fringe player than maybe it helps more but even then with todays PG profiles and video its pretty hard to be missed. I think players like hawkins give way too much credit to the banditos and not enough to themselves. Banditos are in it for their own $$$$, one of the coaches I know that over there told me he makes $2500-3500 a week from lessons and coaching a team. In my opinion these guys have way too many teams that fund their pockets and then use that extra cash to buy (pay for, Ie recruit) the best players from all over to show up to national tourneys to get the pub to rake in more teams and cash. If you look at their rosters, they have a northeast, southwest, north, texas, houston etc blue black white, about anything they can call a team most of which are just there to pay for the one elite teams recruiting. I guess people are willing to pay it to wear the hat to act like they had something to do with the elite team winning. Its sick.
The Banditos develop plenty of talent. Cory Gieser, CJ Hinojosa, Austin Dean, Courtney Hawkins, Nick Williams, Cody Poteet, and Jovanni Hernandez have all played for them for years some have been there since they were 12 and 13. There is a reason that almost every year the Banditos have some of the best 12 and 13 year old teams in the country. A couple years ago they had a 13u team that won 155 games in a row. All those kids stay in the Bandito's program as they get older. So what if they have a bunch of different teams from all over the state? They do that so kids all over the state have the opportunity to play for an elite program, and get college and pro looks. Just look at how many kids from the 2012 class that are going to play D1 ball. There are 28 of them by the way. why would you not want to play for a program like that? [Hidden Content] The main team the Banditos black is made up of almost all Houston kids with 1 kid out of state. How is that any different than the Sun Devils that have kids from Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and other places? I think someone is just jealous of the Banditos ;)
12. Lol they had a dude from Georgia on their roster. Regardless Houston was well represented.  1st place with banditos going 11-1, angels going 10-1 finishing 3rd, heat silver finished 6th with 8-1-1.    Also of note the heat black was  4-1-2 and Kyle chapman going 4-2.
13. Clemens jumped ship to the banditos for some reason. Petitte is on heat black who didn't make it to the playoff round. The silver with biggio lost to banditos in final 8. Angels had bad first inning and also fell to banditos in semis. Banditos won it all, my least favorite Houston team....they tend to hire guns to come into tourneys where heat and angels are local kids. Regardless just goes to show that baseball in Houston is the best in the country.
14. Bhs Denny and Thames are on the Columbia angels who just made the final 4 in the 17u bracket. Biggios , Clemens and pettites kid are playing in the other final 8 game, winner to face the angels in the semi finals. Pretty impressive 3 Houston area teams in final 8 with 2 in final four and one to be in the title game. There was 250 teams in the tourney with the talent being the best of the best if you have never been.  [Hidden Content]
15. The posting doesnt say varsity assistant, it says varsity baseball and freshman football which is exactly what Rupp did. Ive already said Thames should get it but the posting is in no way an indication that it has happened.
16. Hopefully Thames takes over at GCM. He is going to be a good one IMO.
17. Should be interesting , when do they publish a list of applicants?
18. Thats the point "dude", the more free bases you give up it only takes a hit here or there for disaster. I would much rather a pitcher throw strikes and give up hits while giving your D a chance to make a play then give up 9 free passes. It didnt cost them this time but thats exactly what gets you beat against teams this deep in the playoffs....dude

Letting starter get rest for possible game 3. 20. Both pitchers pitched well in this game, but the little things costed GCM.  Down 2-1 with runners on 1st and 2nd, base hit to LF fairly shallow, the runner attempted to score and fell down...got into a run down and was tagged out. I dont know if Rupp was sending him or if he was just trying to draw a throw and the runner lost his balance but huge play. Also not sure what GCM was thinking with runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs in that same inning, runner on 2nd stole 3rd while runner one 1st did not go....a couple of pitches laters the runner on 1st was stealing second and would have been safe but the batter bunted it anyway right back to the pitcher for a free out that did nothing. Bizarre...next batter hit a shot to 3rd base base who knocked it down but didnt have a play so run scored and had 1st and 2nd with one  out  which led to the play above. Also in the last inning, mag west walked #9 hitter . Mag west made a pitching change and brought in a kid throwing slow. GCM called for a bunt and the #1 hitter fouled 2 off..but instead of letting him swing away he bunted another foul for the 1st out. Bizarre, again the kid pitching was like 6'4 but throwing BP. Next kid K'd before a basehit had runners on 2nd and 3rd. Pop to right on the 1st pitch ended the game and season...Tough way to go out for the SRs. Got robbed by going to a 1 game series and with a couple of questionable plays. If Mag west #2 was the kid they brought in for relief they would have been in big trouble in a series and even if the game had gone extra innings.
21. PNG only has 3 losses all year and two were to BH? and BH isnt ranked?
