  3. It's just a matter of execution. There's no more risk involved with a squeeze than there is with a hit and run. The ball still has to be put in play on the ground.

  10. Coach wants to put on a pick-off move to second base. Can the pitcher receive this sign from the coach in the dugout without being on the mound? Or does the pitcher have to take all signs from the catcher while engaged on the mound?
  11. Runner on 3rd base with two outs. Batter hits slow roller up the first base line. The pitcher comes over and fields the ball and elects to tag the batter/runner for the out instead of throwing the ball to first. The batter/runner stops and retreats a few steps to avoid the tag. Meanwhile the runner from 3rd scores before the batter/runner is tagged out. Does the run count or does the batter/runner have to reach first base safely before this rule applies?
  12. Runners on 1st and 3rd. Pitcher comes set. Runner on 1st breaks for second. Pitcher turns to second without disengaging from the mound and throws to ss covering second. Is this a balk? I thought pitcher must disengage first before making play on the runner leaving first base?
  13. Extreme only the kids in your program can answer that question. I've seen you play this year and you have a good, fundamentally sound ball club. If you sit around and read your press clippings and rest on your laurels, then this run could be short lived. However, if the young guys in the program dedicate themselves to baseball during the summer and fall and want to get better, baseball in Kirbyville could be good for a long time.
  14. When Silsbee played Buna last Tuesday, the j.v. game was called at 6:15 to prep the field for the varsity game to begin at 7. I'm sure the same thing will apply for the j.v. and varsity games tonight against Kountze.

  16. Hey Coop the other night you mentioned we might be in for some colder weather around Christmas. Could you elaborate on what you were talking about? I'm an avid hunter and the news of colder weather on the way is nothing but good news for me.

  18. Bulldogs hope for a long playoff run ends in Temple By James Ratliff TEMPLE – The Dawson Bulldogs’ hopes for an extended run through the playoffs were blown away with the relentless wind whipping through Wildcat Stadium, as the Bremond Tigers won the Class A Division II Region III bi-district trophy, 55-8, Saturday afternoon. The Tigers (10-1) followed the lead of quarterback LiDarral Bailey, who had a stellar day, gaining a whopping 307 rushing yards on 19 carries, with five touchdowns on the ground. Bailey also completed six passes for 69 yards in the contest. For the Bulldogs (6-5) the going was tough from the beginning, as they were held without a first down until junior Dustin Sanders made a spectacular play, diving to haul in a 30-yard Trey Tennison pass with 1:53 showing on the clock in the first half. On the very next play, sophomore Alex Shaw picked up Dawson’s second first down with a 10-yard run. The Bulldogs ran out of downs, however, and with just two seconds remaining before halftime, turned the ball over at the Bremond 17 after a fourth-down Tennison pass fell incomplete. Bremond struck early and often in the contest, scoring on eight of 12 drives. Bailey scored five of those eight touchdowns, with his first coming from 1-yard out with 8:30 showing in the first quarter. With 8:17 left to play in the third quarter, Dawson shifted the momentum its way with another huge pass from Tennison. This time the sophomore quarterback found classmate Nick Renfro on first down for a 46-yard gain that left the Bulldogs only 13 yards from the end-zone. After a missed field goal attempt, the Tigers took over on their 12-yard line. The ensuing drive summed up the day for Dawson, as Bremond’s Bailey broke free for a 60-yard touchdown run, leaving the Tigers up 35-0 with just over 17 minutes left to play. Dawson scored its only touchdown of the game less than a minute later, as Shaw outran the Tiger defense for a 48-yard score. Sophomore kicker Steven Travis dove into the corner of the end zone on the conversion attempt, making the score, 35-8. Defensively for the Bulldogs, junior Trevor Carr and senior Cameron Johnson were solid. Early in the fourth quarter, Carr recovered a Justin Kinney fumble at mid-field, stopping the Tigers early in a drive that began on their 33-yard line. With just over four minutes left in the game, Carr broke through the Bremond line, delivering a bone-jarring shot to Kinney for a loss of four yards. Bremond used 11 different rushers, who racked up 464 rushing yards in the game, while the Bulldogs managed 163. Tennison had one of his more productive performances of the year for Dawson, passing for 83 yards. The Bulldogs were forced to play without senior running back Kameron Warren, who suffered a sprained ankle in the last game of the regular season in Axtell. The loss of Warren opened the door for junior Justin Oliver, who was Dawson’s second leading rusher in the game, gaining 34 yards on nine carries. Leading all Bulldog rushers was Shaw, who picked up 127 yards on 19 carries. “You’re always disappointed when that final game is over, no matter how it turns out,†Hawkins said. “I’m just proud of the kids, and very appreciative of the community and faculty for all its support this season.â€
