  1. Honestly, do you think Larry Nuemann and the Bulldogs will miss the playoffs in consecutive seasons? You gotta figure the Dogs will be back in 08 with the amount of talent returning and probably the best coaching staff in the area. (WOS/Dayton have arguments). Nederland returns the entire WR corps, 3 OL, QB, an underused RB who people will get to know soon I hope (Roy) and a good bit of talent on D. Lumberton, yall had a great season....do it again. Nederland/PNG/Dayton's reputation wasn't built on one season alone. Now that yall know how to win maybe you will learn how to act when you win. And please, get a new PA announcer next year...I mean let's get real, the guy is making irrelevant and unneccessary comments about teenage kids.
  2. That's the same thing I keep hearing from a lot of people Horns4. I know he could hit growing up. I will probably try to get my son into a couple of his lessons. Does anyone know where I can find some contact information on Ryan? Also, who are some of the hitting instructors in the area?
  3. I found this on BigNed.com baseball message board. I'm sure it isn't only restricted to NHS players. However, I could be wrong. "It has come to my attention that former Bulldog, and current McNeese Cowboy, Ryan Brauninger will be offering hitting lessons over the Christmas Break. Now I am not related to Ryan, nor do I know him personally, but I know Ryan did wonders for my nephew this past summer when he played for the MC Babe Ruth All-Stars. The young man really knows hitting and knows how to get results out of his kids. He's young, energetic, and my nephew fell in love with him. I think it would be great if some more of the current Bulldog players could get together and get a head start on the competition after missing the playoffs last year. We have tons of talent back this year and it has me really excited. I'm not sure when the lessons will start, costs, or anything like that but my nephew just said that he was going to be taking from him for the next month or so. I'm sure the costs can't be that bad compared to what some of these other hitting instructors charge around the area. If anyone else can vouch for him, please feel free. If anyone knows Ryan personally, I think it would be a good idea to tell him to post on here and possibly give an overview of what he teaches, dates he is available, and costs."
  4. Lumberton fans should be forced to live in Nederland for two weeks during football season so they will learn how to deal with success... ...you don't see 12 threads a day about Nederland, PN-G, or Central stating their greatness or dominance. Are you better than last year? Yea probably. Are you good? Once again, probably so. Are you a contender in this district? No doubt, beating Dayton was a huge step. but... Are you a perennial powerhouse? No Do you have any kind of winning tradition? No Have you been in these waters before? Yes, last year, and things didn't go the way you had planned. Look, I'm all for parity so I think this shake up is good. But the constant discussion of the Lumberton Raiders on this message board is comical. You will receive your credit when credit is due, don't worry. Just don't talk about it, be about it.
  5. This year was the first time in 21 years that McNeese and UL played, and Cajun Field was nothing short of ELECTRIC all night... ...at least for the Blue & Gold. Final Score...MSU - 38 USL? no ULaLa? no ULL? no...oh yeah UL - 17
  6. you better put a helmet on that indian there... ...png may need 12 men on the field to stop the Nederland Offense lol In all honesty, it should be a close game. PNG has good athletes in the secondary to stack up against the Bulldog passing attack. Nederland's running game may be the determining factor. The PNG offense is going to need to surprise Nederland with some sort of trickery of play-action. This Nederland Defense is fast and strong... Regardless of the outcome, Cherokee will be played 50+ times. My Prediction Dogs - 31 PNG - 21
  7. Central has owned Nederland the past 5-6 years...as much as I hate to say it, nothing will change, especially in the Babe. Bellow hasn't seen a defense with this much speed, and the Nederland defense hasn't seen a back as fast as Hall. DJ needs a big game... I wanna see that soph. RB from Nederland get some reps. Kid looks like a stud, but I'm sure Nuemann and his staff have their reasons why he isn't getting reps. Anyway, Jags 35 Dogs 20
  8. If Lamar had a football team they would never compete in the SLC...no facilities, no fan support, no tradition... ...as much as I would like to see it happen, I don't think they would ever be successful. McNeese is only an hour away, offering kids to play at a school with a winning tradition and is not far from home. They are number 6 in 1AA right now. Add in SFA, SHSU, and Texas State and you will see that Lamar has a long, long way to go before competing at this level. The tough seasons that would occur as the program starts would be discouraging to SE Texas football fans, we love winning.
  9. Dustin Hood would have be the prototypical spread qb at Nederland. You don't have to be a good runner to fit the spread offense. Look at Manning, any of the Texas Tech quarterbacks, or the University of Hawaii quarterbacks. There are two kinds of spreads...one that implements the option read ala Texas and VY or the air-it-out 60 times a game ala Mike Leech at TT. Anyway, back to the point, Hood was the smartest and probably most efficient quarterback to ever play at Nederland. The staff probably gave him the choice of calling most the plays at the LOS.
  10. anyone know who the coaches are for the 16's? I can't really tell from that picture...looks like maybe the top row far right is one of them.
  11. Used to be the dome... now, probably Lufkin or LU.
  12. Ned PNG LCM surprise, surprise...these programs dont rebuild, they reload. Griff and Stone have proven themselves as top of the line coaches over the years. Coaching is a huge factor in high school baseball. Also, Cody Robbins is arguably one of the best young high school coaches in the state.
  13. bigdog, i have heard really good things about roy. haven't gotten a good chance to watch him though. What does he do so good to have the whole town talkin?
  14. The thing that amazes me about the second swing is how he stays inside that ball... wow
  15. QB Harrison Tatum at PNG LB Dravannti Johnson, RB Guiterrez, and Newcomer RB Paul Roy at Nederland
  16. J. Green used to run that indoor-facility with Chris Fackler... He learned a lot
  17. wow... so much for opinions and theories on hitting. swingbuilder has all the answers. I played D1 and minor league ball...what do I know? I tried to pick up linear hitting, but I lost rhythm/timing. I understand that there is a linear move in rotational hitting, but that is far from pure linear hitting. In my opinion, the key to hitting is not whether the swing is linear/rotational but rather bat path and leverage. Pure bat path is something that can be taught and drilled on. The first thing I tell younger kids about hitting is that it's all about leverage. The 5 or 6 leverage points that are present throughout the stages of a swing are hinged upon one another. The more leverage points you can keep stacked, the higher percentage you have of hitting the ball hard. There are pure linear hitters. Gary Sheffield.... KGJr. is the exception to the rule my friend. Much like Bagwell, some people can do a lot of things wrong a get away with it. They're just gifted like that. You give lessons and such I presume swingbuilder? Or am I off-base? We could sit here and go back forth all-day about hitting, we may never get anywhere though. Different strokes for different folks.
  18. No they never said that. Just implied through their continous barrage of claims that Micah is not going to the next level and that the town of Nederland is delusional. It's hard to see James, I know. You just gotta sift through the ignorance to find it, haha.
  19. High school hitting coach...probably Chad Landry or Coach Griff High school pitching coach...hard to go against Cody Robbins or Kyle Green Others: Hitting: Chris Fackler...results speak for themselves. He learned a lot from Pujols and Kelly Shoppack. Pitching: Brian Sanches (Yes, technically not a coach but does lessons). Sam Moore is a good one.
  20. I know Aaron. Good ball player, better yet, great ball player. The linear movement is one that is not widely taught at younger levels. As kids progress, this technique is brought upon them by "new age" (for lack of a better term) hitting instructors. Not all D1 colleges teach linear hitting. There are a lot of linear hitters in the big leagues. Gary Sheffield Ichiro Jose Reyes Alfonso Soriano These are just a few that come to mind. The linear move is great if it's taught early and worked against live arm. My biggest concern is timing. I've seen a lot of hitters who get the front foot down, then see off-speed, and have to adjust without any kind of back knee/hip behind the swing. If the hitter initiates the linear move early, he loses his back half, and may be forced to adjust with the shoulders, which is never good. Also I have learned that for some unknown reason, the hip movement forward causes a lot of swing to go bar-armed (straightening of the lead elbow). Bar-armed kids can hit in high school, not in college. However, the linear move can work. The great ones can do it, obviously. They get the front toe down and adjust to the offspeed pitch by accelerating the front heel down toward the ground to do what we call "sit." But more often than not, this causes the swing to become more rotational, and less linear. Through years of studying hitting, I have found that this new age thinking does and will work with kids. It just has to be taught early. There are less inconsistentcies with rotational hitting however. This is the same, "sit on the back side and squash the bug" technique taught by dads and little league coaches everywhere. One of, if not the, best hitting coach in this area, Chris Fackler, is a rotational guy. Before he took the asst. job at McNeese, he did lessons with tons of local kids, and everyone I talked to loved him. However, rotational hitting doesn't stop in college/high school. In fact, many of the power hitters in the bigs are purely rotational. David Ortiz Barry Bonds Albert Pujols Lance Berkman My theory is adjust to what the kid does best. If he has the ability to be a linear hitter, you can sculpt him out to be a dangerous, low-strike out type of hitter. The reason people debate hitting so often is because it is the hardest thing to do in sports (mathematically). You're trying to hit a round ball with a round bat, and you gotta hit it square for it to go anywhere. Think about that...
  21. Micah has offers to play football at the next level. <---That is a fact. Micah has other opportunities to play another sport in his future. <---That is a fact. Recruiting is overrated <---Very controversial, but some could say fact based on what Boise State has done recently. Jsmity and Piratefan know Micah and his family personally <---Really going out on a limb here and saying that this is not a fact. The whole town of Vidor has a serious case of p#@!s envy for Nederland <----that, once again my friends, is a FACT.
  22. Jsmity, you sure sound bitter. I traveled around the state during the holidays and met a lot of new people. In north Texas I ran into a guy that asked me where I was from. I said a town called Nederland, between Beamont and Port Arthur. He replied, "Don't yall have an unbelievable running back down there?" There were two or three more similar conversations that I had with different people (some were family). Micah may not be as well known as Jamaal was. I know Jamaal was on all the recruiting lists, 5-star running back, nationally known, yada yada yada, but to say nobody has heard of Mosely from outside this area is simply ignorant. I'm not going to argue about who is better. I'll take both of them any day.
  23. The seperation of the chicken and shrimp is what makes gumbo beautiful... Do not mess with it's holiness
  24. Micah, or as piratefan calls him, that kid from Nederland is a great back. No doubt. I'm sure he has opportunities to play at the next level if that is what he chooses to do with his future. Jamaal Charles is the most under-utilized talent in all of college football. He's not a zone read runner. Give him the ball out of the I or pro sets and he will run all over people.
