1. The Texas Rangers and All-Star shortstop Elvis Andrus have agreed to an eight-year extension worth $120 million, a source told ESPN.com senior writer Jerry Crasnick on Monday morning. In Select Company Andrus Elvis Andrus ranks fourth in WAR since 1970 among shortstops with 500 games played through their age-23 season. Equally impressive, he's seventh all-time in WAR and his 123 steals is third most by a shortstop by age 23. According to MLB.com, the extension gives Andrus the option of opting out after four years and includes an unspecified vesting option for a ninth season. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels previously declined to comment to ESPNDallas.com on the talks that led to the agreement, the specifics of which were earlier reported by FoxSports.com. The Rangers have locked down another key member of their infield with Andrus, second baseman Ian Kinsler and third baseman Adrian Beltre all under the club's control through 2016. Kinsler signed a five-year, $75 million contract extension last April. Andrus batted .286 with three home runs and 62 RBIs in 2012. He helped the Rangers make their first two World Series appearances in 2010 and '11. He has a career .275 average and 123 stolen bases in his four seasons as the Rangers' starting shortstop. The 24-year-old began his fifth season with the Rangers on Sunday night, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the team's 8-2 season-opening loss to the Houston Astros. "I want to be here," Andrus said at the time. "I love it here." Andrus was asked during spring training whether he'd consider getting a deal from the Rangers now rather than wait. "It's a lot of different things [to consider]," he said. "A lot of those guys are married and they have kids. For me, it's a little different. I'm still super young, and I have no wife, no kids. I'm going to continue to play and let things flow."
 2. Opening day is here! Lets go RANGERS!!!  I'm going with TEXAS 5 Houston 1
 3. Left-hander, Matt Harrison has been named the opening day starter.
 4.
As an Umpire, we go by Federation Rules and any exception provided by the UIL. Could you imagine the confusion if we had to know any special district rule also, what a cluster. That is why there have been times about suspended games we as umpires can only stop the game then let the district committee rule if the game should be restarted, resumed or is final.
I agree with you 100%.  There is no way an umpire can be asked or expected to know every district rule form every district that they call games in.  That's why I have this question.  What is the proper ruling and what is the proper procedure?  Does the coach have to bring this to the attention of the umpire?  Does the game end under a protest?  Can the game be restarted and finished at a later time?
 5.

SCENARIO/QUESTION 1: The batter swings the bat and hits the catchers glove.  Interference is called and the batter is awarded 1st base.  What is the official ruling for the batter?  Is this an official at bat?  Does it go down as a reach-on-error?  SCENARIO/QUESTION 2: Top of 7th, tie ball game, visitors have runners on 1st and 3rd.  The starting pitcher is pulled with 2 outs.  The relief pitcher comes into the game, throws 2 pitches to the batter, then picks the runner off of 3rd to end the inning.  The home team then scores a run in the bottom of the 7th to win the game.  Which pitcher gets the win? SCENARIO/QUESTION 3: Bottom of 7th, home team is down by 1, runner on 2nd.  The visiting team uses the hidden-ball pickoff play to get the last out of the game.  The district rules state that "HIDDEN BALL PLAYS" will not be allowed.  What happens?
First two we do not get involved in how plays are scored in the book so check with a real baseball statistician, as far as the hidden ball trick, the rule is that if the pitcher is on the dirt of the mound when a hidden ball trick is used, it is a balk. I have never heard of a district making a rule of no hidden ball tricks, but i do know that baseball and UIL rules can not be superseded by local umpire chapters or districts.
District 21-3A has a rule that states, "No hidden ball" plays will be allowed.  Does that mean the play in scenario 3 should have been ruled a balk?  Or is it a legal play?
 6. Thanks for the information.  I appreciate it.
 7. Thanks for replying GCMPats2 and Coach85.  On scenario #2, I thought the pitcher had to face a batter to be able to get the win.  Thanks for clearing that up.  In regards to the 3rd scenario, whose has to make the call on the hidden ball play?  I think it's safe to assume that the umpires will not know each and every rule for every district that they call games in.  Heck, I bet most coaches do not know all of their district rules.  Does the coach have to bring this to the umpires attention?  Do they have to have proof of the rule with them?  What is the proper procedure for this scenario?

 10. No, no, no, let him talk. I want to know which coach is only there for a pay check and doesn't care about the kids or the program. Then I also want to know how he knows this info.
 11.
Rumor has it that there are a couple of coaches on staff already who have applied for the job. One coach who has been there for a few years  and doesn't care about the kids or the program.  He just wants a paycheck and can't wait until practices and games are over every day. Hopefully the board, commitee, and superintendant will make the right choice for the program or HJ will be looking for another coach in a year because he will be tired of actually having to work!
I would really like to know which coach this is?
 12. This is not a contest between the Aggies/Longhorns or texans/COWBOYS.  This is about Texas high school football.  As I have stated, there is nothing that says, "Texas football" quite like the COWBOYS and Longhorns.  Sure, the Aggies and texans are hot right now and that's great, but they are not the first teams that you think about when you say "Texas football".
 13. Sorry guys, when I hear "TEXAS football", Houston and San Antonio just do not pop into my head.  I have nothing against these two cities, just don't think about them when I talk about football.  Here are a couple of examples of what I'm trying to say:  [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] The University of Texas and the DALLAS COWBOYS dominate the state of Texas on these maps.  Why, because these are the two teams that people think about when they hear, "Texas football".
 14. I hope it stays in Arlington forever.  If it has to move, move it to the University of Texas.  There is nothing that says, "TEXAS football" better than the COWBOYS and Longhorns!!!
 15.
Blake Chavis lefy because he called coach Woodard out on his bs coaching. Its amazing how Oden could pass all his classes at Arkansas but couldn't pass at Lamar. Jeremy Johnson was promised the QB job Woodard didn't keep his promise.  Garrett was not on a full scholarship.
So you are basing your statement of, "all the talented kids are leaving the program"  on the following: 1.  On a person who left Texas A&M, transfered to Lamar and during his senior season called out Coach Woodard on his coaching style.  Why did he leave Texas A&M?  Did he call out Coach Sumlin also? 2.  On a person who passed classes at Arkansas but couldn't pass at Lamar.  Where did this Mr. Oden go to after he left Lamar? 3.  On a QB that was promised the job, but for whatever reason, couldn't keep the starting job.  We all know he left and went JC. 4.  On a student athlete who was not on full scholarship.  Where did Mr. partial scholarship go after Lamar? Please understand that I DO NOT support Lamar.  I actually root against them from time-to-time.  I'm a Sam Houston State Bearkat!!!  However, I do follow athletes from SETX and your claims are terrible and have no substance.
Blake Chavis (A&M signee out of highschool) Greg Odens younger brother I cant think of his name right now, Jeremy Johnson (WVU out of highschool) Depauldrick Garrett left the program because Woodard wouldn't give him a full scholarship, Lamar signed a kid out of juco that had a USC off out of highschool he left the program.  And there are more I could go on and on.
Ok, let me get this straight.  Partial scholarships don't count, only full scholarships will satisfy you.  You listed a few names that left the program.  Where did these guys go after they left?  I know for a fact that Jeremy Johnson left West Virginia because they wanted him to play a different position besides QB.  He came to Lamar, was given an opportunity to play QB, then left when he wasn't the starter.  I think he enrolled at Blinn JC in order to play QB.  So he went from an FBS school, to a FCS school, to a JC. You said Depauldrick Garrett left becuase he didn't get a full scholarship.  Where did he go after Lamar? Same question for Blake Chavis.  He signed with Texas A&M, then transfered to Lamar.  Did he leave Lamar and go elsewhere?  If he did, where did he go?  According to the Lamar 2012 roster, Blake Chavis was a senior last season.  Does that mean he graduated from Lamar?

 18. This is actually the 2012 Lamar roster.  (I took the seniors off the list, since they will not be playing in 2013, so you will not see them.)  Also each player's classification will be higher for the 2013 season.  In other words if this list says they are a freshman, they will be a sophomore for the 2013 season.  Also, I do not have the new group of players on this list.  However, according to the Lamar football website, there are 20 new players coming in and 3 have SETX ties.  Lamar Cardinals NO  NAME  POS  HT  WT  CLASS  HOMETOWN 0  Jacory Augustine  DB  6-3  190  FR  LAKE CHARLES, LA 0  Colby Carpenter  DB  6-0  180  SO  BRIDGE CITY, TX 0  David Dunkin  QB  5-11  190  FR  AUSTIN, TX 1  Nashon Davis  DB  6-3  205  JR  KATY, TX 3  Barry Ford  WR  6-1  175  JR  HOUSTON, TX 4  Tyrus McGlothen  DB  5-8  175  JR  GRAND PRAIRIE, TX 5  Ryan Mossakowski  QB  6-4  215  JR  FRISCO, TX 8  Mike Venson  RB  5-9  160  JR  KATY, TX 9  Mike Hargis  LB  6-3  225  FR  AUSTIN, TX 10  Jermaine Longino  LB  5-10  220  JR  HOUSTON, TX 11  Kevin Johnson  WR  6-0  210  SO  HOUSTON, TX 12  Caleb Berry  QB  6-2  195  SO  NEEDVILLE, TX 13  Kye Hildreth  WR  6-1  175  JR  NAVASOTA, TX 14  DePauldrick Garrett  RB  5-8  190  JR  ORANGE, TX 15  Oluwajimi Oyefeso  WR  6-3  215  JR  PASADENA, TX 17  Dillon Barrett  QB  6-3  220  FR  DRY PRONG, LA 18  Davion Wolford  WR  5-11  170  SO  STAFFORD, TX 19  Matt Bergeron  QB  5-11  180  FR  MANDEVILLE, LA 19  Keinon Peterson  DB  5-8  190  JR  DICKINSON, TX 20  Michael Handy  WR  5-11  185  FR  CONROE, TX 21  Branden Thomas  DB  5-9  170  JR  BEAUMONT, TX 23  Payton Ploch  WR  6-2  215  JR  DAYTON, TX 24  Jacob Hanna  TE  6-0  220  JR  LUMBERTON, TX 25  Gratian Gladney  WR  5-9  165  FR  HOUSTON, TX 25  Kollin Kahler  P  6-2  200  JR  WACO, TX 26  Chad Allen  DB  5-11  190  JR  COLDSPRING, TX 27  Caleb Harmon  RB  5-9  200  JR  PORT NECHES, TX 28  Herschel Sims  RB  5-8  215  SO  ABILENE, TX 30  Darrell Harris  RB  5-11  185  FR  WACO, TX 30  George Orebe  DB  5-9  165  SO  HOUSTON, TX 32  Anthony Beard  LB  6-1  235  SO  LUMBERTON, TX 33  Desmond Richards  RB  5-9  170  FR  MONTGOMERY, TX 34  Josh Wilson  DB  5-7  185  SO  BEAUMONT, TX 35  Joe Okafor  DL  6-6  295  SO  BELLAIRE, TX 37  Courtlin Thompson  DB  6-1  210  JR  LANCASTER, CA 38  Garrett Drake  WR  6-2  185  FR  SILSBEE, TX 39  Justin Stout  K  6-1  170  JR  MESQUITE, TX 40  Xavier Bethany  DB  6-1  180  FR  BURTON, TX 41  Jestin White  LB  6-4  190  SO  HOUSTON, TX 43  Chris Maikranz  LS  6-6  255  JR  SUGAR LAND, TX 44  Ronnie Jones Jr.  LB  5-10  240  FR  HEMPSTEAD, TX 45  Joshua James  LB  5-10  190  SO  SILSBEE, TX 46  Alex Ball  K  6-3  240  FR  WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA 47  P.J. 19. Records from an anti-aging clinic in Miami list the names of prominent baseball players -- including Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera and Gio Gonzalez -- and detail performance-enhancing drugs administered to them and others, according to a report Tuesday by the Miami New Times. The names were on records Miami New Times said were given to them by an employee who worked at Biogenesis of America before it closed last month. Miami New Times reported that the records show the firm sold performance-enhancing drugs, including human growth hormone, testosterone and anabolic steroids. Anthony Bosch, the 49-year-old head of the clinic, was connected to Manny Ramirez when the former MLB star was suspended for 50 games for violating baseball's drug policy in 2009. Bosch has never been charged by local or federal officials. Olney: Yanks done with A-Rod? OlneyAlex Rodriguez has admitted to PED use from 2001-03, but he's now stuck in another drug controversy, writes Buster Olney. Blog Insider Miami New Times said it conducted a three-month investigation before releasing its 5,400-word story online on Tuesday. Saturday, ESPN's Outside The Lines reported that Major League Baseball was investigating multiple wellness clinics in South Florida, as well as individuals with potential ties to players. The report said that the area from Boca Raton to Miami is "ground zero" for performance-enhancing drugs still filtering into the game. Rodriguez, the New York Yankees slugger who ended 2012 injured and on the bench during the playoffs, has admitted to using steroids from 2001-03, but he has said he has not used PEDs since. The New Times report said that Rodriguez's name shows up 16 times in the records it reviewed. One record, which the newspaper reported was part of Bosch's private notebooks, indicated Rodriguez paid Bosch $3,500 for "1.5/1.5 HGH (sports perf.), creams test., glut., MIC, supplement, sports perf. Diet." HGH is banned by MLB. There are other notations for Rodriguez as well, beginning in 2009 and continuing through last season. The New Times reports that other drugs listed for Rodriguez include IGF-1, a banned substance that stimulates insulin production and muscle growth, GHRP, a substance that releases growth hormones and testosterone creams. Rodriguez had hip surgery last month and is expected to miss some or all of the 2013 season. Miami New Times reported that Cabrera, who signed a $16 million free agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays during the offseason, is mentioned 14 times in the report. He was suspended last August for violating baseball's performance enhancing drugs policy while a member of the San Francisco Giants. The paper cited entries last April indicating Cabrera "has enough meds until May 4" and indicating what the paper terms a "cocktail of drugs including IGF-1." According to the report, Bosch openly bragged of supplying drugs to Rodriguez. Major League Baseball issued a lengthy statement Tuesday in response to the New Times story. "We are always extremely disappointed to learn of potential links between players and the use of performance-enhancing substances," the statement begins. "These developments, however, provide evidence of the comprehensive nature of our anti-drug efforts.  Through our Department of Investigations, we have been actively involved in the issues in South Florida.  It is also important to note that three of the players allegedly involved have already been disciplined under the Joint Drug Program." The statement added that MLB has implemented many recommendations of the Mitchell report and feels that it's Department of Investigations in conjunction with local and federal law enforcement has made great strides in policing the game. Before adding that the investigation is ongoing and the league won't comment further, the statement did say: "We remain fully committed to following all leads and seeking the appropriate outcomes for all those who use, purchase and are involved in the distribution of banned substances, which have no place in our game." Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers has not been disciplined for PED use by the league; however, he is listed on a July 2012 record, with a notation from Bosch that "need to call him, go Thur. to Texas, take meds from April 5-May 5, will owe him troches and∧ will infuse them in May." Troches, according to Bosch's notes, are a type of drug lozenge which Miami New Times said includes testosterone. The Rangers issued a statement Tuesday, saying: "The Texas Rangers were contacted late last week by Miami New Times regarding the story posted this morning. At that time, the Rangers contacted Major League Baseball on that inquiry. The team has no further comment." Gio Gonzalez, the Washington Nationals left-hander who led the league with 21 wins last season and was third in Cy Young voting, appears five times, including one charge for $1,000. His father also appears, but he told Miami New Times that he was there to lose weight and that his son is "as clean as apple pie." "And if I knew he was doing these things with steroids, do you think I'd be dumb enough to go there?" he said, according to the New Times. Pitcher Bartolo Colon was suspended last season for violating baseball's performance-enhancing drug rules. Bosch, in his notes, says Colon's monthly fee was $3,000, according to Miami New Times. Other names listed in the records obtained by Miami New Times include Cesar Carrillo, a former University of Miami pitcher, Jimmy Goins, the strength and conditioning coach at Miami for nine seasons, Cuban boxer Yuriorkis Gamboa and professional tennis player Wayne Odesnik, who was banned from tennis for two years in 2010 for allegedly trying to bring HGH into Australia. The New Times reported that it sent detailed letters to all of the people to be named in its story asking for comment, but none responded. On Jan. 27, Bosch told the New Times: "I can't really say anything to you," and added that his attorney would be in touch. According to the report, the former secretary for Biogenesis said there shouldn't be any question as to what athletes were looking for from Bosch. "He sold HGH and steroids," the person said, according to the New Times. "Everyone who worked there knew that was what our business was."
