They only beat Ned the first time because of a lucky bank 3 and a coach E tech. Ozen WILL NOT shoot 70% again.
Surely u jest! If Ozen continues playing the way they have the last couple of games, it's going to be a lot harder for Nederland to walk back to their cars and buses than it was a couple of weeks ago.
Well hang your hat on past performances if you want to. Need I remind you of the PNG game. Ozen was LUCKY to leave that gym with a win. But I agree, I hope y'all play the same as in that game.

 3. Plus side is that 4-A is so wide open this year, there  is no clear dominant winner in our region. So Ozen should not take this upcoming game so serious.  ;D

 5. Got to watch a PNG mom come across the floor after the game and get all up in coach Abel's face, ranting and raving with her finger in his face, got so bad the assistant coach had to intervene. Then she chewed him up for about 5 mins. Quite a display. Somewhat comical to watch. Anyone else notice this?
 6.
The thought of Nederland losing this game just sends a chill thru  me.  :D
Im sure its not the same chill you had last time Ozen played PN  ;D
 7. Always excitement for this game. Ned by 10+
Now time for 5 on 5 response.Tell me how my son was suppose to get better by playing in the summer when he was not invited by them to do so.Lets say he plays the same position that the person that funds the summer tournaments son does. How often you you think he will get called to play to take some of money parents kids playing time.We will never know how it would have turned out but you can bet my son has zero respect for the basketball coach
I do understand your point. My post was not specifically referring to organized summer ball. I was talking about individual efforts to improve, spending time in the weight room, spending time in the gym working on basketball skills, individual time working on agility quickness etc. There are weekend clinics and open camps in Houston almost every weekend. Lamar has a summer BB camp, etc, etc. just because he wasn't invited to play last year doesn't mean he can't be invited next year. Some kids have to work harder to excel than others, and unfortunately some never will despite how hard they work. Some develop later than others. Don't blame the coach, encourage your son to work for what he wants. And as far as believing the parent you are referring to, I wouldn't believe everything he says anyway.
 9.
was he discouraged from playing or did he just not make the cut..... if he didn't make the cut due to other players being better than he was did he:     a. give up on basketball     b. put more work in on his basketball skills during his personal time, so he         could come back his soph year and try to make the team. just because someone doesn't make the team doesn't mean he's being discouraged from playing the sport....it means he needs to work harder and improve his game. if someone doesn't get a job is that employer discouraging him from getting a job. so now he just gives up on working. too many kids now go to their parents to save them when they don't get what they wanted or don't make the team or don't get enough playing time......and there parents go right along with it.....its never the kids fault, its never that the kid is not good enough.... come on people....
Well said. IMO basketball requires much more work to excel in than any other sport. You can't pick up a basketball 2 months a year and expect to get better.

 11. What will the FB boys be participating in in the next wk or so? Camp Fun, right? The BBall team will still be playing right? So the FB boys would HAVE to participate in Camp Fun, then play in a BB playoff game? How is that fair to those boys or their BB teammates, or Coach E, or the BB program? It isn't fair. Neither is the FB boys having to go to FB Offseason even when they are playing BB. That sucks but it is what it is. That's why more and more multisport kids are choosing to just play 1 sport.
 12.
.Abe in Nederland as it currently stands your son will have to choose football or basketball. It is not fair that other schools make it work but Nederland can't.Do not know if block scheduling is the problem or not.It is sad that the kids could play for two of the best coaches in the state of Texas at one school. As it is,the football players can be role players at the underclassman level but year around basketball players are starters because the coach feels like the extra practice time they get will make them better than the football players in the long run.Hard for football players to accept this when they know their ability is better but coach does not follow the "best should play" rule for underclassmen.Much like soccer and baseball you can't play both. You can but you will not be treated fairly. No one says life is going to be fair. The kids learn this the hard way and move on.The same thing happened in Vidor.Do not know which coach is at fault for not letting the kids in the basketball class but it is not fair to the kids.I do know that there is only one common denominator in the Vidor and Nederland problems
You gotta be kiddin me.  ::)
 13.
Sorry for the delay. It was necessary for me to go underground in order to avoid the Nederland Homers. They have been on my trail this week and are PO'd. I felt it was safe tonight to respond since they are all out of town. During road games only the old geezer's are left behind and I feel I can slip them. Back on topic. What's up with Nederland? Actually, you only need to look at the team and their athletic ability, or lack there of, as compared to that of Ozen and Central players. It is easy to see overall we don't match up. With that being said, Coach English has done a MASTERFUL job with the talent level. He has got the community involved and has his specialists playing around the clock. Coach knows this is a must with the slower less athletic player. The around the clock play along with his coaching is what keeps us at least competitive this year. It would also help if our boy's were not so soft and would play to their strengths. These are all great kids, but as their parents will tell you, they are lovers not fighters. Unfortunately, BB has changed to a much more physical game and some nights those lovers just can't match up. Also, it is true we have one of the best high-jumpers in the state. However, with a team that has a rebound problem, against the good teams, you would think the high-jumper would average more than 1-2 RBs a night. Of course, if you don't like hard contact you're not going to pound the boards. It is what it is. I believe the real reason this team is presently 3rd in district and has already lost the home court advantage to Ozen abd Central is because the better multisport athletes are no longer staying with the program. This trend has been going on for the last 3-4 years and it has fianlly caught up with the program -- ala 3rd place. I will refer to this subject as part 2 and it is where I think Coach has room for improvement. Stay tuned
Sounds to me like a dad with sour grapes to grind.  ::) You're telling me if we had the 2 other football players on the team we would have district all but wrapped up. Give me a freakin break. Kimler is the best football/basketball athlete by far and he is on the team.  :o
 14. Wonder if they'll be the kings, sonics, or a new name?
 15.
Of course they can match up with HJ.  Hj hasnt played anybody and they run cross country.  Thats a recipe for disaster.
HJ's cross country preparation will be the difference in this game! HJ at home by 10.
They'll win by 13.
13? Thats it? Whats wrong with Nederland?  ;D
;D ;D ;D
 17.
It is so very amazing that all of this recruiting stuff seems to be perfectly acceptable at certain schools.  Then, let a school like Nederland lift its program up substantially and the naysayers want to explain it away because somebody moved there who shouldnt live there.  Brian English has raised the quality of the Nederland Basketball program substantially and all of this BS about Pt. ARthur or Ozen or Central making Nederland success disappear is simply wishful thinking.  Nederland may not win the district every year, but they are a legitimate contender  every year and you naysayers are better off to acknowledge it and live with it rather than trying to "talk it away".
I agree. Nederland has been and will be contenders in 20 4A. Some have a hard time dealing with that.
 18.

Just explaining how the open gym program works. How is that being bitter? It's a brilliant way to attract better athletes don't you think? At least coach knows this. Why else would we open the gym to anyone other than Nederland tax payers? Boy, if this gets you upset just wait til tomorrow. I just about have my list narrowed for the thread question --What's up with Nederland? I am going to explain things that not even coach understands. Stay tuned
Thank God we have you Husker to provide your prescient insights!  Someone alert Coach English that he needs to get on here and find out what may be wrong with his program according to some moron on an Internet message board.  If he heeds Huskers advice he can probably preserve the integrity of the program for years to come!
It is very hard to rebound when the Ozen players have both arms wrapped around your body.  And when Ozen players jump up and chop you on the shoulder with their elbow (4).  For the majority of the game, the calls were even, what was fair for one was fair for the other.  But, as the regulation game came to an end, the refereeing was so biased, even a "non-basketball" person could tell.  Talk about needing to fix something.
