  1. A very athletic class can do a lot very quickly...especially when you put two of them back to back like OF is going to have...their setter will more than likely be on varsity as well...and it's amazing what a good setter will do for you. They have Scales in the Middle and the two freshman outside hitters...and they are ALWAYS so scrappy on defense. They need someone step-up and be the leader and they will suprise some people. Both Silsbee and H-F could very likely have setter issues. BC will be solid next year, I'm not sure why everyone thinks they won't be that good. They did not lose any dominant players. They lost a good libero but their offensive attack will be much better next year. That Freshman girl they had this year at OH on JV will make a big impact next year. Whatever the case...I see OF and BC in and Silsbee and H-F battling for 3rd and I'll take H-F over Silsbee because they will have a lot of trouble setting unless they have someone coming up.
  2. I think you got it baddog...the Randy Johnson trade wasn't that bad...it was for the moment...Kevin Brown was just unstoppable for the Padres. I'm not saying it was a good trade...there's just been a lot worse. Letting Carlos Beltran go...that's a bad thing??? Are you kidding ??? The Mets are paying him a rediculous about of money and does he even put up .300 30/100??? Just a thought...it seems to me his numbers have been going down since drug testing...hmmmm.
  3. Dicky V...let's see if this is a good point. I don't so much care, I just love sports. Let's take out all of the people that are at these games because they have children or relatives part of the game: either playing, cheering, dancing, etc. Now let's take out all of the students who are at the games (because well..students should be there). Where are we going to find more people that have not "ties" to the game at the game. I believe (and I don't think there is any actual way prove it) that it would be hands down at a football game. However, I do agree...it's not as much as a king as we all assume it is.
  4. HJ...is that serious??? Two very good coaches but the girls out there just don't breathe volleyball. Their Varsity wasn't that great and either was their J.V. OF will probably win the district b/c Riley Granger and the rest of the upcoming freshman class to go along with the sophomore class. If those girls work their tails off...they could see a state title run before they graduate. Silsbee and HF are returning a lot but both are losing their setters. Find people to replace the setters and they will be in the playoffs. Silsbee is returning a enough players that were "role" players this year that will step up and be the leaders next year. BC...great coach but their young players have a long ways to go. Either way...4 teams battling for 3 spots again next year.
  5. Quit complaining. If OF and HJ would have won the comment would be "oh what an easy game OF has as it's 3rd round game and a trip to regionals." Districts match up with districts at the beginning of the playoffs. Same thing happened in Volleyball. OF played Liberty (just an average VB team this year), beat Liberty and had a 2nd round bye. HF had a tough 2nd round game in Volleyball against Taylor. In Volleyball and Basketball this year (and next) the best seed to get is 3rd. Personally I wanted OF and HJ to win last night but they didn't. You always want your area to show up and do well. I think both are great programs and both were class acts this year. We know they will both be back next year and probably both be better. Good luck to HF the rest of the way.
  6. It seems that Orangefield has continued to get better throughout the year, which is expected with a lot of young role players, and H-J has seemed to have peaked earlier in the season. I think Orangefield is going to win. It will be a great game and a hard fought battle but I think Orangefield wins by at least 10. I'll say 14.
  7. What are the standings for 21-3A????????
  8. Well it seems to me that Orangefield has a team mindset. I hate to hear of two girls leaving the team. You never want to see young ladies (or men) quit a sport they probably loved (I assume that is why they play). However, if they were causing problems maybe it was best.
  9. Here's what I see from the stands. Girls on the bench looking like they do not want to play...so that is where they should stay. The only Freshman that I ever see that gets a great amount of playing time is the point guard and she should. She's one of their best players. Besides that I see two seniors who start and play most of the game. And why is it what grade you are in...who cares...put the best players in and let them play. Someone else said it, whether or not we agree with substitutions he is the coach and I'm sure he has his reasons. We aren't at practice so we do not know what happens. Hf fan...you should change your name...you haven't ever said anything good about Hf. Now I think you have the right to state your opinion, all I'm saying is your name does not ever back your opinion. Nothing personal. I hope all teams play well and whatever teams represent our district in the playoffs represent it well.
  10. I see what you are saying bleed orange but if girls want to play club volleyball there is nothing you can do...in my opinion. If they are making the practices then they deserve to play however, if they put volleyball practices and games first during basketball season they deserve to sit. And from what I read on other post that is what the HF coach did so I don't understand where the problem is with people complaining.
  11. Tigersvoice...with all do respect I do not know what you are talking about. I've never seen H-F snowbird the three times or so I've watched them play. I agree with Bobcat05 this game will be closer than people expect unless OF is knocking down three's. Beach and Wright will cancel each other out. I think it's going to be a fun game to watch. I might find myself there tonight...where is it at?
  12. Alright...enough is enough. Unless you are the coach, you don't know why certain girls are playing or not playing. If a girl isn't working hard at practice (no matter how good she is) she needs to sit. If a girl is being disrespectful at practice she needs to sit. If she is skipping practice or games for volleyball she needs to sit. Now I understand that maybe some of these girls are pursuing college volleyball and they should if they are good enough but the coach can't play them in front of other girls if they aren't busting their butts at practice everyday and the other ones are. I've been to three H-F games this year. I believe there are three or four freshman on varsity but only one starts and only two get significant playing time. Please tell me how that means the coach is in love with the freshman? Now why some girls play more than others I'm sure it has to do with work ethic and exicution. That would be my mind set if I was the coach. I think parents need to quit always thinking thier child is the best and realize it's a team sport and you put the best chemistry on the court. Little dribblers is over...not everyone has to play!!!
  13. Bridge City is better than Orangefield. HF can beat Silsbee. Two very good teams. I'm going to go out and say it now...we will have a repeat from last year. A playoff game for first place and a playoff game for 3rd place. Silsbee and HF for first and BC and Orangefield for 3rd. BC will beat Orangefield to make it in the playoffs.
  14. Of course they do and I think BC will beat OF the 2nd time around so we could see a possible playoff for 3rd depending on how both of those teams do against Silsbee and H-F the rest of the year. H-J can also upset someone on any night.
  15. Angel Eyes, that is rediculous. I do not know where you get any of your information from but I would quit getting it from where you are getting it. And I agree...every post you have made and make from this point has no reliability after what you just said. With that said...does anyone know who the next coach will be?
  16. Fisherking...that might be the best post I've ever read. I think you said what bleed orange and myself believe and have been trying to say. I tell you this...just from that post...I have great respect for you and your character...kudos my friend.
  17. Once again I feel I must back my friend up. Reports coming from practices...were you ever at the practice to hear any of it? If not, it's just hearsay. I'm not saying he did or didn't, it just really seems outside his character to be doing that. What do you mean when you say he seemed out of place? You say he did not improve the basketball program and he'll tell you that's why he wanted out...because he even felt like they were losing a year. So before you start saying he should have done this or that...at least know what he thinks please. However...he can't bow out...they wouldn't let him before the year...why would they during the year. You say that he definitely was not open to help or suggestions. If this is true then why did I constantly see him talking to other coaches about basketball and what the best thing to do in certain situations is. I saw him talking to the head boys coach, the head girls coach, the jv coach, and even talking with one parent after every single game about what to do and what could be better. Did you or somone you know offer help and he rejected it? To Bleed Orange...I don't know if you are a coach over at orangefield or not, but if you are and openings come up within the next couple of years for volleyball and track you might want to think about contacting him. I know he gets on setxsports sometimes to see what's happening with the playoffs and if he reads all of this (which I pray he doesn't) he isn't going to be too excited. I do not know how long he will want to stay somewhere that the community is not backing him. I will say this...maybe the girls did not learn a lot about basketball but from what I saw...they learned a lot about discipline, respect, and how to carry themselves. And the boys head basketball coach is a good coach...but it's hard to win when you don't have kids who dont' ever play basketball. I think he would be a great fit if that rumor is true.
  18. Well...I sure hope you know the freshman basketball coach because you sure did give him a bashing and brought him up for no reason. Now...if it's the 8th graders that have won district the past three years it's this season coming up and the next three that the team should go far. It's hard for freshman and sophomores to be consistent and dominant on the varsity level. Now I don't ever talk on here but I feel I should back my friend up since I KNOW him and you probably don't... "I know the freshman coach this year knew not one thing about basketball and didn't really even want to be coaching. He constantly made comments behind the head coaches back and left a sour taste in the freshmans mouth with nothing to look forward to in the future. Ask any of the coaches out there and they will tell you Freshman Athletics mean nothing!!" Did you know that he is a volleyball and track coach and that is what his passion is and what he knows backwards forwards and upside down? Did you know that he was coaching basketball because no one else would do it and he said that he would if they absolutely needed him to? And I can promise you that he will agree with you that he didn't know much about coaching basketball...but he did know something. I can promise you that he never made comments behind the head coaches back. He might have stated that he didn't agree with the head coach but he would do what she asked because she was the head coach. I have personally heard him numerous times say that these three grades of girls coming up have a great chance to win state before it's all said and done. I've heard that from him...and tell the girls that...how would that give them a sour taste? And I HIGHLY doubt the coaches think freshman athletics mean nothing. Oh and before you start knocking the coach...maybe you should look at his success in other sports and realize there are other schools wanting him to come to coach volleyball and track. Don't bash the guy for stepping up and doing what no one else would do. If it means that much to you, I'm sure he wouldn't mind at all if you came and helped him at practice and taught him things he didn't know. He would actually be all for it. Kids do talk...and yes...so do parents...and that's the biggest problem with HF...the parents are the root of so much drama. Again...if you have a problem with the freshman coach...approach him...don't bash him on here and tell him you would love to help him out if he didn't mind. I know him and to him it's not about him...it's about the girls and them becoming the best they can be...perhaps you can help!!!
