  1. Crockett 81, Tatum 57 Big first quarter for Crockett.  Tatum seemed a little shocked.  Settled down a little but never came within about 20.
  2. An interesting thing about Rudder.  This is their third year as a school.  They began with only freshman.  Now they have Fr, So. and Jr., but no seniors.  I hope they do well but I can't see them giving Silsbee much of a fight.
  3. I guess every year someone somewhere brings up the subject of a school running up the score on another team.  To score this many points the Yates press must have been to much for Lee to handle.  I guess if I saw the game and saw that Yates didn't play more than 8 players, I might could criticize.  If Houston Lee played Yates caliber teams often they would surely work harder to improve their abilities to break a press.  That might mean, if they were to play again, they would only get beaten by 100 points, but they would be better. If I were a runner and could set records wherever I ran.  I wouldn't run just to win.  I would lay it down every time.  If I were a coach and had a record setting team.  I would surely let the whole team play when they was well in control of the game, but I wouldn't tell them to take it easy on a team.
  4. I saw the Wheatley v. Crockett game.  Wheatley is way down this year.  The tempo was very fast and Crockett got off to a sluggish start.  Crockett is not looking all that good yet.  Looks like Lumberton found some weakness.
  5. I like your picks.  I wonder What reason the Huntington fans will give when their team falters once again.
  6. Just trying to pick 1 and 2 in each of the pools. HJ and PG Sabine and ? Crockett and ? Kounze (I don't care about their swagg) and ?
  7. My real opinion: Any state champion in Texas accomplished something major. You only have a few years to do it in and you're up against some of the best in the country. A state championship is huge. Many great teams never get one. About the 21-3A MVP: Let this year alone decide the winner. Don't let the last two years have anything to do with it. Two of the best perennial powerhouses in the state in one district.
  8. How are Silsbee's injuries? Healthy - Silsbee by 20+ Injured - Silsbee by 15
  9. It looks to me like last year was a pretty tough year and this year looks like Madison, Argyle, Estacado and Brownfield would be truly difficult to get a win over in the championship game. How was 2007?
  10. Was 2007 a down year for 3-A basketball in Texas?
  11. This was from earlier this season just three days apart. Goodrich will give Crockett a good game. 1/03/09 Cayuga @ Goodrich 62-69 (L) 1/06/09 Cayuga @ Crockett 53-62 (L)
  12. Re: Cleveland I wonder if starting the fab Sophomore class caused the upperclassmen to revolt. It has happened before. Too bad for this year. How good will they be in the next two tears?
  13. Crockett 5-1 Athens 4-2 Westwood 3-3 Fairfield 3-3 Brownsboro 3-3 Palestine 0-6
  14. 01-20-09 Crockett was at Brownsboro. I listened to the game and Crockett was behind 10-6 at the end of the first. Crockett closed the lead to one 25-24 at the half. Two threes for Crockett within seconds of each other half way through the third seemed to help Crockett get going. They led by as many as 13 and won 49-57. Not all that pretty but a WIN. 2-0 in district play
  15. Crockett has several returned from last year but are missing the loss of a fantastic passing guard. They won their district opener against Westwood by about seven and were in control of the game after they had a good run in the last few minutes of the fist quarter to take the lead. I thought they would have an easy go in this district, but it looks like Athens and Brownsboro will give them good games. Their free throw shooting is much better so teams can not foul their way to a win like Crockett's opponents learned about last year's team. Crockett is out there and wanting another shot, maybe even a rematch with Silsbee. I was looking at the region 3 bracket and district 21's runner-up will likely face Cleveland? How do you think that will turn out?
  16. Congratulations to Silsbee. You have a great team and a very steady and dangerous player in Robinson. May you have fresh legs. drain your threes, and never trail in tomorrows game against H-J or Connally. Crockett graduates six but returns with starters and will move up some good talent, (some that can shoot free throws). Hope we play again!
  17. My primary point was that Crockett's stats were interesting. They do not always rebound well, yet the stats from the Madisonville game was something like Crockett with 25 to Madisonville's 15. Madisonville was supposed to be a good rebounding team. They never shoot well, yet have big wins with poor shooting. I've seen them play about five times and thought they played well one of the five. I listened to most of the games on the radio so I really would not count myself as an expert on the team, though I know the players and have watched and coached some of them for years. They tend to be able to disrupt the other teams game plan. Steals anywhere at any time. Loose balls with players diving for possession. Two or three steals in a row on inbound passes that cause the coach to call time. As far as I know, that could describe Silsbee as well. It should be a good game between similar teams.
  18. I've heard that the teams are similar. There was a mention of Silsbee having a tough district. Two tough teams does not make a tough district. You play Hardin-Jefferson well because they are the team to beat. I'm sure Orangefield has a good team as well but it looks like you had some trouble with them this year. Crockett has played their last year in this district. There are two teams that do not play football in this district. That means they do not hire eight football coaches and one basketball coach and hope that their football coaches know something about basketball. The teams are Central (Pollok) and Hudson (Lufkin). These teams play very sound fundamental basketball because they practice year round. Silsbee played Hudson at a tournament and were likely surprised how a team that looked inferior in the warm-up took their team apart during the game. Madisonville, which was no slouch team, took out Hudson by only one point. Crockett has their weaknesses and I'm sure the Silsbee coach has scouted them out. Crockett's stats are interesting. If they shoot over thirty-five percent from the field, they blow a team out. If they shoot around thirty percent, the game is close. If they stay out the night before the game and don't have their heads right, they may go 17 for 60 like they did in a warm-up game with Centerville. Which Crockett team will show up this Friday? Silsbee is hoping for the latter.
