  1. Probably 15 years ago I saw a play like the one mentioned. The Houston Astros were playing and apparently a pitch out was called. The pitcher claims to have missed the sign because after the catcher moves out from behind the plate a blazing fastball hits the umpire where it hurts. Enos Cabel was the TV commentator and he misspoke. Does any body remember this and knows what Enos said?
  2. Congratulations to Vidor's Taylor Robichau. He signed last month to play for Paris Jr. College in Paris, TX.
  3. Congrats to Justin Parsons and the Bulldogs...Great leader, great kid, great team!
  4. Nice article by the port arthur sportswriter, Cody Pastorella. The Bmt Enterprise report of the game was centered around the 85 pitch prediction by Harrington and hardly a word about the great game by the PNG players.
  5. What a play by Monse when the hit ball bounced off his foot and he gloves it. He looks like he has practiced that play before. He is a wrecking ball. He can do it all. Will somebody stitch up his britches, I know he won't.
  6. I saw this play about 12 years ago between two high school teams .Pitcher in windup. Runner from third is stealing home. The catcher is alerted to the approaching runner and steps foward to meet him at the plate. Batter swings and nails the catcher in the back. He was lucky, wasn't seriously hurt.
  7. Vidor has a freshman starting on varsity, Hunter Hagler. He has been solid all year. Plays RF, has had key hits and has a good arm.
  8. Would anybody be able to tell me how Dane Phillips is doing at Central Heights. I saw him play in 10 -15 games this summer and he is a hitting animal.
  9. Please stop comparing Robichau and Harrington, this thread is Vidor vs. LCM.
  10. Great question. This is very tough.I am split between Matt Hicks from B.C. and Statom\from Orangefield.
  11. Mr. Ump Is a batter awarded 1st base if a pitched ball hits the ground, then the batter?
  12. Back to the game. How about that gutsy call in the 6th inning. Ozen batting, two outs, bases loaded and I think the score was tied. Ball bunted in between pitcher and 1st, base hit.
  13. 81sdad, With all due respect, the district I live in, and the school I support would be another non essential fact. I have have had the priviledge to have been associated with many, many teams during the last 7 or 8 years with some of the best players in the area. They are now playing in their final year of high school and I guess I don't like "outsiders" raining on their parade. Please don't be offended.
  14. 81sdad, We can't compare last years teams to this year. Our teams play at the end of the season. Till then, let us enjoy our moment. We all may get swept by the powerhouses lurking to our west, I have seen BH play and know of your teams sucess last year. Mr. Ruth is our Mayor, and a fine one he is.
  15. cleanup, Look at the tape again. Hard to tell if the player was out of bounds, but it was clear that the ball didn't roll into fair territory. It bounced off his glove and landed in fair territory. Also congratulations to your son, very few will get that call.
  16. 81sdad, You agree with eight of the top ten picks , but you feel your team could beat two of our 3a schools.WOW. Thats quite a bold "selling' point as to why Ruth should include your team in the top ten. My point is, we can't compare our talent until we compete with each other. We don't have the history of playing games with common opponents. Your comment , that there are many veiwers and voices outside of the Golden Triangle is true. I think it's great. We have a great baseball atmosphere in the area. You can talk and veiw all you want, just don't take anything.
  17. BLACKFLAG, To get to the school, take IH10 and take the Port Arthur exit, get off at the Fannet Road exit and take a left. The school will be on the right about a half mile down. Turn into the main parking lot and there will be a driveway that will take you to the ball park which is way in the back.
  18. Ruth, This is crazy. The only comments/discussions are from schools that we don't know much about. Our paper doesn't cover their schools, I have never seen them on the evening sports. Ihave no clue how to get to Huffman,Ce.King, or Smiley.I have eaten at a great Mexican restuarant in B.H. I wish you would clean this up. There has to be reasonable boundries in choosing the Top Ten. It should be limited to our local school districts. I would limit the 5a district to include Westbrook and Memorial because I believe you a ranking the top ten baseball teams in our area. Bidistrict teams should be just that. Bi Bi. See you down the road.
  19. top ten setexas teams. 1. Vidor 2. PNG 3. LCM 4. Jasper 5. BC 6. HJ 7. Westbrook 8. Buna 9. Silsbee 10.Kelly
  20. Ruth,This is what you deserve for including a "Houston" team in our rankings. You know very little about BH district and 81sdad criticism proves it. For some wierd reason you are tied to BH and treat them as locals. I know, you will say we have always included them. Are you now going to add Huffman to our top 10 because 81sdad is griping? I hope not.
  21. Mr.Ump, I would like your opinion on this play. Ball is softly hit in front the catcher. He charges out and scoops up the ball and moves a step to his left and throws the ball to first. The ball handcuffs the first baseman and he drops the ball. Coach appears and argues and the runner is called out for interference. If the runner ran on the wrong side of the chalk towards first but did not interfere with the play,do you think this was the correct call.
  22. I remember losing the championship game in Pony Invitational Tourn. with Chad Sim pitching 7 innings and striking out 18 to a pass ball. we lost 1-0.
