1. Sterling's coach needs to do something...this isn't 1960 where the kids will stay at your school and you get 4 years to mold them if his teams keep doing this he will start bleeding athletes...he is absolutely wasting Gibson and it is sad casue that kid should have an opportunity to play on saturdays at a good school...i have never seen a team run the triple option attack this bad, i know it is his first year but good lord it is almost comical how bad they are at it...the amazing thing is the defense is actually a lot better than last year (though, it was so bad im not sure that is hard to do) but the offense is giving up just as many points as the defense is it seems...
2. 42-7 final....liberty finally allowed the first score against them for the year with 3:46 left in the 4th
3. dont think RSS is thinking playoffs, they are just trying not to go 0-10 for the first time in their history (somehow they have managed to avoid that with many 1-9 seasons)...according to the chronicle they only had 140 yards or so on offense and 60 something on one pass play to gibson for a TD...im sorry but 140 yards on South Houston is unacceptable for any offense no matter what scheme you have changed to...i think the coach for Sterling may be in over his head right now...hopefully things work out for him in the long run...
4. people might as well forget hoping that sterling switch back to spread...the one characteristic of coaches that run this offense is they are consistant and stubborn...WHEN it works it is almost unstoppable...but like i said Sterling knew what they were getting when they got this guy, it isn't like he hid what he had before...they made an investment in this coach and if his style works then sterling will be fine, but it will take time as this offense is different than what any of these guys were running before... also, with this offense always comes the crowd who hates it....until they start winning, of course...then the crowd will be ok with it... for now its not like sterling can get any worse than they were before this guy came so they really have nothing to lose...there is something to say about running an offense that no other team sees normally before they play them...
5.
SIC'EM BEARS!
hopefully next friday night is better for me than this friday was...
6. i have grew up watching teams that run the offense sterling is running now...the coach is not going to throw the ball 10-15 times a game period, much less to one player...to run that offense the coach has to be hard headed because the whole theory is that if you do it enough you wear the other team down late and can put it away, if you start throwing early it doesnt work...it isn't like the guy was running a different offense at clear lake...sterling knew what they were getting so obviously they are willing to give the guy a shot (which means he should get 4 years at least to install his system with his players), but i always hated watching this offense when the QB shows some throwing ability and esp when there is a kid like Gibson to throw to...that said once the QB gets the offense down he will be good at it, he was holding the ball too long today and Lee was eating him up for it...they need a back like that kid they had playing QB/WR and kick returning last year who graduated, you get someone like that as a threat to pitch and the offense clicks well... panama i think the talent problem is that in the 90s and early 00s all the talent was at Lee...there is the same amount of talent now but its actually spread evenly over the 3 schools which means it seems like there isn't a lot of talent at any of them...apparantly we have grown as a town yet the football talent has stayed about the same...
7.
How did Lee score in the second half? I had too far of a drive to get home, plus I am driving to Chicago tomorrow or the day after, so I need my rest.
long pass to tie and it seemed like that broke sterling's back or something...next drive sterling fumbled and Lee had a short field and scored a TD then Lee kicked a kinda short pooch kickoff and it went off a Sterling kid's chest and bounced to a Lee kid...Lee drove down the field and put it away really... the Lee QB reminds me of Roberson some, he has some talent and is slippery when he runs...
8. the Sterling QB can play and has a pretty good arm, but he isnt gonna be used that way in their new offense...just the way it goes, i saw this offense growing up in Liberty, when it works and you have a decent defense then its hard for anyone to beat you but if your just ok at it then you can get destroyed...once your 2 scores behind thats it...they didnt get the ball to Gibson one time on offense i dont think, when your best player doesn't touch the ball but on special teams then it is hard to win...
9. That was a bummer for a sterling grad...it was obvious they were in trouble when they were only up one td at half and lee had turned it over so many times...gonna take a while for them to get that offense down...may be a rough year but hopefully this coach can turn them around...
10. 28 guys on Lee's varsity??? wow...that is just sad, even for a Sterling grad that is sad...i can't believe they have gone from what they were to that...wow guess i will never get to see the day where both sterling and lee were good and The Game means something again...wish i wouldve known back then that was really the beginning of the end...
11. hopefully the staff for sterling puts some type of defense in...anything...like one that can stop a team for one play would be better than what they had last year....their offense wasn't too bad last year but the defense was one of the worst i have ever seen, if they can get a semi-decent defense then they may be able to challenge for that 4th playoff spot in district, which isn't saying much but it would be an improvement.... i dunno what lee has but from what i have read it should be a high scoring game...Sterling probably has the players to pull away late since Lee will have several playing both ways...
12.
donald douglas went on to UH and did pretty good.. think he made the pro's too.. was also a BEAST
i remember Douglas playing receiver for the Giants at one time....dont know if he played anywhere else but definitely played some pro ball....
13. Sterling/Lee was good once upon a time...it is still fun in the community but kinda sad when you compare it to what it once was...
14. got mine at walmart in baytown on friday loved the full page academy ad w/ the sterling receiver catching a ball over a baytown lee kid :)
15. may have to check out my old panthers...i haven't been to a liberty game in a couple years, but looking at schedules i may be able to make a few...hope they get back to their ways of the 90s til about 2005 when they would win district or be in the race most years....they got to be too bad to make the drive to watch, but what do i know i was going to baytown sterling games instead  ??? ....to be fair Stallworth is a 5 min drive from my apt and i did graduate from sterling...
16.
Reggie White played college ball at Okie State right? He and Bua were the best I seen and Chambers was a good qb. Liberty is a far cry now compared to what they use to be.
Reggie rushed for over 1000 yards at Okie State one year...came out for the draft after his redshirt junior year and did not get drafted...really sucked for him, i guess he got some bad advice...Chambers played WR and returned kicks at Purdue, i think he set some records there for punt returns...I think that Chambers had some time on a nfl team or 2 as did Reggie White but they never really stuck anywhere... Bua, I already mentioned earlier in the thread though apparantly i don't remember him playing RB (i was young)...i do remember when he left to get more exposure it was a really big blow to the panthers at the time... Liberty just needs to have a coach that can win some games move back in and they will be fine...the athletes are there they just need the right coach, hopefully this coach they have now will be that guy...
17.
Tony Bua was a good one too
thought Bua was a linebacker when he played in liberty....he left liberty and went to louisiana so he could go play on the offensive side of the ball and get more attention from LSU....of course the great irony was that he went to Arkansas and was a safety/linebacker that holds their record for career tackles....i think Anthony Chambers was QB at that time who set some records for punt returns at Purdue...that was some good liberty teams, dont remember the running back that beat Bua out, maybe that was White but i think White played with Donald Douglas of Houston Cougars fame...Newton was our achilis heel back in those days, lotta talent but could never get past them...
18. reggie white was the best i saw...he was there in the 90s...granted for me i can only remember back to the early 90s since i was born in 85...some of these older guys may have seen better, but i find it hard to believe you can be much better than reggie white was...
19. i agree panama...before i went to sterling i was at liberty and it was very different....this was back when liberty was making the playoffs yearly and contending w/ barber's hill for the district title every year...those kids were running the same thing in 7th grade that they ran as seniors...went to sterling and it was like half of every junior high went to one school or the other...im pretty sure that was some of the problem then and is still some of the problem now, but i still think the major problem, atleast at sterling, is coaching...they actually appear to have much more talent now than they ever did when i was in school yet they still get thumped...that in my opinion is all coaching...
20. Sterling loses 51-50...3 TDs in the last couple mins...SOHO scored after getting the ball with 1:09 left on a blown coverage...
