  1. Trey has recorded a 10.15 in the 100 this year. I am not sure of his 200 time, but I can tell you this, he won that event at district by about 10-15 yards. He has not had anyone to push him any many races. I saw him run a 10.38 at one track meet, and he had such a commanding lead that he slowed down about the last 10 meters. He should post his best time yet at regionals, as he will be pushed for the first time. Although he is running against 3A competition, I have witnessed the same kind of domination when he faced the 4A and 5A schools this year. The kid can fly, and he is only a Junior.
  2. Roderick Simmons is Quinny and Depauldrick's little brother. Also, is the Stein kid returning? If so that receiving core is going to be deadly, although I heard that Haynes may be playing a lot of RB next year. He did play it very well in 1 game last year when Quinny was out. If for any reason Garrett doesn't live up to the hype, which I think he will, Franks and Simmons both are ex- QB's with tons of althletic ability and nice arms as well. Everything will be fine in Mustangland. Now, if we can just get some smarter folks on the school board.
  3. That will be THE WEST ORANGE STARK MIGHTY MUSTANGS, and there names are James Haynes, and Trey Franks. They are both D-1 recruits, and are both in line for huge seasons. Natural athletes that play several positions on both sides of the ball. The best in this area. BMT123, please don't discuss SETX football without mentioning the STANGS, LOL. :D
  4. Not real familiar with him, but if he was the man behind those outstanding defenses the last few years, then I think they made a good choice. Central's defense are known for flying to the ball very aggressively and punishing the ball carrier. If he can translate that kind of aggresive attitude to the rest of the players, he will have lots of success.
  5. WOS list should be - Dan Hook (highest winning percentage of any head coach iin Texas), Cornell Thompson (the greatest defensive coordinator ever), Tremain Lewis (still works with the future stangs, a real difference maker, not to mention a state championship QB), and Kevin Smith (had the most football success of any mustang thus far, super bowl champ).
  6. I think that everyone should save their judgement until after the young man goes to court. If that happens to be after the basketball season, then lucky for him. You see this everyday, even in the NFL, NBA, etc. , a player has a run in with the law, but nothing happens until they are convicted and proven guilty, and yes they usually do have their lawyers push the court dates back to the offseason. Not to insult the numerous of Steelers fans on here, but the Super Bowl MVP is still awaiting a court date for a marijuana possession charge, and he was still allowed to play. I know that this is not the pros, but right is right and wrong is wrong, and me personally, I am inclined to be a little more lenient on an 18 yr old boy, than an NFL star. Barry Bonds continued to hit homeruns through his allegations and run-ins. Arrest are allegations, nothing more, a court system still has to find him guilty. People on here are wanting Saveat to give up on the kid, and call him guilty before it's proven. Not many people know all of the details, so why don't we let the court system decide if he's guilty or not. The statements released by the police could be innaccurate, or any number of other circumstances that would get this kid off. Then if he's later proved to be innocent, then Saveat would have kicked the young man off for nothing. It is a misdemeanor crime, he didn't kill anyone. By the way, I am very neutral on this subject as I am not an Ozen supporter. I do however follow all area sports and have followed this situation as well, and I have yet to see anything that proves him guilty, yeah I know about the so called admit of guilt. I also know about Orange County Police department, since that is where I was born and raised. Not trying to make any allegation against the OPD, but things are just not clear enough right now to write this kid off. Let's be fair.
  7. Hopefully if the OC gets the LCM job, then Toby gets a promotion, and also Roy Locks get the open spot on the staff. He recently got caught up in a coaching change and restructuring at Northwestern. It would be nice to bring back one of our own. Once Hooks and Thompson retires, the young gems in Toby and Roy will be well groomed, and ready to take over. Just my opinion.
  8. Beasley should have gone somewhere that would let him play on the offensive side of the ball. Even in high school, he never impressed me on defense. Heck, he rarely even played defense in high school. The one time I recall them calling on him to shutdown a stud receiver from Bay City, he was exposed. I am not taking anything away from Beasley, because he is a phenomenal athlete, but that does not translate into a good cornerback. All that said, he will still get an invite to the combine when he finishes at UT, and with his athletic ability and 40 time, he will "wow" scout, and may still get a look from some NFL teams. So, slam him all that you want to, but he is seeing the field at a major D-1 school, which is no easy task. Obviously, he's better than anything else they got. I agree on the earlier post about Gideon, he is a joke, can't cover, tackle, or CATCH. Earl on the other hand, if he continue to progress as he has, we may be looking at a first round pick in a year or two. GO MUSTANGS!!!!!!!!!!
  9. I think that everyone on here would agree that the main reason Burnett was reassigned is because of his recent lack of success, when the expectations for him to do well were high. They were supposed to do well, but the coach failed them and therefore a decision was made to go in a different direction to get someone in there that could bring this team back to a winning program. I'm no genius here, but how in the world is a master's degree going to do that. Would the expectations for this next guy to win not be as high, as long as he does a good job in his other possible roles (AD)? No, that community still expects to win, and they will want his head if they don't. Just saying, if you are going to reassign someone for not being a good coach, then replace him with the best coaching candidate available, not the best AD available.
  10. When I stated that the rules are not for us, I was meaning the size advantages, and LO rules. The heart and sole of our teams is speed, speed, and more speed. We pattern our selves after our varsity teams, and make sure that we are in the best shape and everyone is flying to the ball. Having a big, slow, bruising back is not our style, but more power to the teams that use that style, you will never hear me complain about that. We try to capture the edge and running lanes, not 3 yards and a cloud of dust. From Peewee to Varsity, we all run the spread offense or some form of it. That is all I am saying, our style would not allow us to take advantage of having a 110 lb RB, unless of course he can fly. LOL. Look at WOS over the years, this is our style, it works out most of the time, but it can be stopped if a coach has the wits and the personnel to stop it. This message is for chippy only, I was just explaining to him why I said that those rules are not for us, and also for whoever insinuated that we would manipulate the rule to cheat. We have stopped big boys, and we have stopped small one. We have also failed to stop a few, it is all in the game. We play our style of football win or lose, but we never make excuses in the end. Age is the only thing that matters. Let's face it, look at most teams in this league, the most aggressive players out there were not even the bigger ones. Let the kids play. An 85 lb kid can do just as much damage as a 110 lb kid could, if he is more aggressive. Weight, Size, Height are just excuses, and everyone of them can be counterpunched with speed, technique, quickness, agility, and more. I just don't understand why people make such a big deal out of weight. Oh yeah Safety, give me a break.
  11. You are right chippy. Now, in response to an earlier statement about WOS being so defensive. It's not that, it's just that we are tired of the excuses. These rules are not for us, because we have success no matter what the rules are, but instead these rules are put in place to give other teams a chance to have some of the success that WOS and others have year after year. Coincidently, all of the whiners on here represent the same teams. Let's face it everyone's child can not be and will not be a stud, no matter how you try to shape up the rules and make them in one's favor. Some people need to come to reality that Little Junior is who he is. Once again this is off the topic, but I know what the real agenda is, and why some people are more passionate about it than others are. I repeat, "Line up and Play Football", and leave all of the technicalities out of it. Just good old fashioned football. These kids play together at school and in the neighborhoods, but not on saturdays. I support the age breakdown, but to me weight doesn't matter. No one on this board can change my stance on that.
  12. First Team All State defensive limeman Kevin Robinson, who actually plays strongside end for WOS, is listed at 5'7" and 160 lbs. It is really amazing how this young man, so small in stature, totally dominated on defense all year long. To have 104 tackles from a DE spot is outstanding. Usually the middle LB leads the team in tackles. My son is very small defensive end for his little league team, and every Mustang game I took him to this year, I made him focus on #8, because he plays textbook DE. In the playoff game against Coldspring, one play in particular stood out to me. This young man took on blocks from a 250+ lineman, and that big 200+ RB, shedded both blocks and dropped the QB for a lost. He really deserved this all state selection. Congratulation Kevin, job well done.
  13. I agree that they already know who they want to hire, and apparently he has a master's degree. I think that they are just using this requirement to weed out certain candidates, whom they know is either better for the job or a fan favorite. It is like they have already promised the job to someone, and need a justifiable reason to give it to him over the others. I have seen this hiring and promoting practice throughout my job for years, where they design the requirements to be the perfect match for the person they want. It is sad but true.
  14. In defense of Big Worm, her son would have done just fine on Senior Level, probably dominant. But the fact still remains that he played with his age group, and he was the correct weight. Who cares if he's taller and faster than most of the kids, their still was no violation of any rule. I too coached against him, and I'm not complaining. I understand that everyone wants an even playing field, but realistically some kids are natural studs, and some kids are better coached. The teams with studs or the teams who have competitive coaches who put in the work to have their teams prepared are not worried about no size or height advantage. They just plan accordingly. It seems to me that the teams who are not as successful are always looking for an easy way out, or always looking for a way to make it more even to give themselves a chance, instead of putting in the time and effort to better prepare their teams. I have seen people do a lot with less, it is all about how you prepare and how hard you work. What's Next? Before too long, someone will suggest that if you run under a certain time in the 40, then you have to move up with kids that are more your speed to make the playing field more even. This is ridiculous. Should a stud pitcher have to play up in baseball if he throws too hard, or if he's a certain weight or height? You know a really big and tall kid can be just as intimidating standing on the mound, or god forbid their is a collision at the plate between him and a smaller kid. I think that would do more damage than a football hit would anyday. Do we have the same safety concerns there? Let it go!!!!
  15. I agree Queen, what kind of weight do you think these kids are going to gain? Unless you put your child on the "juice", he will not blow up to a size where it becomes an advantage. What is the difference between 99 lbs. and 101 lbs.? Yeah, I know 2 lbs, but seriously, how much of an advantage is that? Like Queen B said, the added weight could be from building muscle.
  16. LB-9 I do understand the pros of this issue, and I was only stating a few of the cons that I have seen firsthand. Not sure what you meant by the people "crying", because I definitely was not doing that, and I most definitely am not a cheater. When I began coaching STJFL, the rules were different from any I had ever seen, and I still followed them. If the rules were to change, I will still follow them. I personally don't see anything wrong with the weight certification that we already have in place, as long as everybody follows it. I for one, know for a fact that we faced running backs this year that were over the LO weight requirement, heck they were bigger than everyone on my team, including my LO's. I didn't cry about it, because technically no rule was broken. My son is only 65 pounds (10 years old), so this is not a personal issue for me at all. I just think that if they are the same age then who cares about weight, because 2 years from now in Junior High they will either have to play with them or quit. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know the safety concerns, I'm just saying let's not water the league down more than it already is with more technicalities. Can we just play good old American football?
  17. I hope ya'll realize what ya'll are asking for. Recertification before every game? I have seen that in Pop Warner, and it sucks. In order for this to happen, we would definitely have to revisit our LO rules, and limitations. It is too hard on a team to gameplan all week long, just to get to the game and your starting LB or RB is 1 lb over the LO limit, and now has to play on the line, in which he has never practiced. That starts the fussing over the scales calibrations, and then the fussing over cheating. I do agree that we should bump up the weights in Junior to 110 for LO and 135 for the cap, but to check weight every week would not be good. To me it is fair that a kid weighed in under the maximun allowed weight at certification, and is now a few pounds over. So what, I don't hear anyone complaining that a child was 10 at certification and is now 11. To me it is the same. Also, the STJFL board would have to get larger, because that would require a STJFL official at every field for weight in before each game. God forbid, that official be from the team playing. Then you get more crying and cheating accusations. Please let this rest, before someone takes off with it.
  18. Good post LR33. Can you please explain to Straight Shooter that nearly every ref in STJFL has some kind of ties to one of the teams involved in this league. It's almost impossible to get around that. Oh wait, maybe we should get the Houston Chapter refs to come and referee our Little League games, so that we can prevent any favoritism. Give me a break, the excuses are getting ridiculous. Not taking anything away from Lumberton, but the better team won. When I say better team, I mean on that given day, whether they executed better, played better, ran better, or got better breaks. Who knows what would happen if they played again, maybe Lumberton would be the better team. You never know with 7-10 year old kids, but guess what Shooter, you will have to wait until next year to see. WOS Peewee, and WOS Junior Blue are the 2008 Super Bowl CHAMPS. Nothing you can say, cry about, complain about, or make excuses about can change that. Get a life, and quit rewinding that DVD, the game is over. It was played on the field, not a high definition LCD screen.
  19. Dang, that boy is lucky. Hopefully my Cowboys can pull off the next three games. Hey TD, quickly call Jerry Jones and tell him NO WHITE PANTS. Seriously though, I enjoyed your son, he did everything asked of him, and he gave 110% just like I preach. Yeah, ole Boomersooner aint too bad for a Deadskins fan, huh.
  20. Here we go again, every time someone loses, they get on here and cry about class. Is anyone else starting to see a pattern here. I said it once, and I will say it again. "LOSING WITH CLASS IS A WHOLE LOT HARDER TO DO THAN WINNING WITH CLASS IS". Keep your congrats, if you are going to get on here and say Good Game, but............. Wah, Wah, Wah, No Class, Wah, Wah, Wah, Refs cheated, Wah, Wah, Wah, Coaches Yelled, Wah, Wah, Wah, Players were dirty. Quit all of the belly aching. Just say Congrats, Good Game, Hats off, and be better prepared next year. Never seen so many grown crybabies in my life.
  21. Hey boomersooner, if you are who I think you are, you are having one heck of a run this football season. Your peewee team won, your Sooners are playing for the National Championship, Sam Bradford won the Heisman. Did you make a deal with the devil or something? Oh wait, this just in, YOUR DEADSKINS STILL SUCK!!!!LOL. ;D ;D Congratulation Bro. Thanks again for the helmet, I will get with you Monday. COWBOYS RULE!!!!!!!!! That son of yours is a 60 pound monster!! His MOM must have really been an athlete. Just kidding. ;D ;D Love ya bruh, I am sure it will be fun next year whether we are coaching together or against each other. STJFL is getting more and more competitive every year. You should be really proud, as ya'll were the only team to go undefeated from all age groups. Heck of a job COACH!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Congrats WOS PeeWee, and WOS Junior Blue. Great games.
  23. No need to recruit at WOS. If you look at the names of all of the stars that have come through WOS, they are all either brothers or sons of past stars. The bloodlines runs deep, we usually know who will be the studs of their class once they are in about the 5th grade. Just to throw some names at you (Franks, Thomas, Garrett, Feathers, Steen), just to name a few. It seems as though we have one of these names doing well every year. I personally seen most of them play little league in Orange. I too, work with a bunch of people whose always saying that Hooks recruits. I don't see it though. Only name that I can think of that came to WOS later on in High School is Kelly Robertson, who came from PNG. Not sure if he was recruited as much as he was searching the area for a place to start, because of another stud QB already on PNG's roster. If you could choose your school, why not play for a champion. He chose a school, where he could go deep in the playoffs and get exposure. That's my personal opinion, and I don't see anythng wrong with it. Worked out for both him and WOS. He helped the team, and Hooks helped him become a complete player, who also did well at the next level.
