Source: Sutton out after only two seasons as Cowboys coach Sean Sutton, who kept the family name in place at Oklahoma State after succeeding his father as coach, will not return for a third season, a source close to the program told ESPN Radio's Doug Gottlieb. Sutton will be paid for the remaining three years on his five-year contract, the source said Tuesday. A former Oklahoma State guard and an assistant on Eddie Sutton's coaching staff, Sean Sutton was unable to get the Cowboys to the NCAA tournament. He was 39-29 with two first-round NIT defeats. With a succession plan already in place, Sutton first was named interim coach at Oklahoma State in February 2006 after his father took a leave of absence following an arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. Eddie Sutton did not coach the Cowboys again but did jump back into the game at San Francisco as the Dons' interim coach. Sutton, who said he would not return to the program, has 804 career victories. Scott Sutton, the youngest son of Eddie Sutton, is the coach at Oral Roberts.

Olajuwon to attempt comeback with Rockets The past may meet the present in Houston, and for the Houston Rockets that means the return of the greatest center in franchise history. Hakeem Olajuwon is expected to return to the Rockets today in the hopes of contributing to their playoff run, according to a source close to the NBA great. "It looks like it's going to happen," said one source close to the situation. "We should know for sure by this afternoon." The Rockets are planning to unveil a monument honoring Olajuwon on April 11 outside the team's arena, and that opened the lines of communication between the former star and the team. Phone calls from injured Rockets center Yao Ming and long-time friend Dikembe Mutombo were instrumental in his decision to return. The 45-year-old Olajuwon is the NBA's career leader in blocked shots (3,830). He led the Rockets to their only two championships in 1994 and '95 and was the most valuable player of the finals both years. Olajuwon retired after the 2001-02 season and the Rockets drafted Yao with the first pick a few months later.

**Astros opening day updates at Padres**

Padres dump Astros on opening day SAN DIEGO — They dramatically remade their roster in the off-season with hopes of avoiding days like this, days in which it seemed as if they could play forever and still not score any runs. Meet the new Astros. Same as the old Astros, at least for one day. Jake Peavy, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, pitched seven scoreless innings and drove in a pair of runs to lead the San Diego Padres to a 4-0 opening-day win over the Astros. Peavy outdueled friend Roy Oswalt, the ace of the Astros’ pitching staff, before a celebratory crowd of 44,965 on Monday night, the second-largest crowd in the history of Petco Park. It was the fifth time the Astros have been shut out in their 47 season-openers and first time since being blanked by Tom Glavine of the Atlanta Braves in 1992. The Astros fell to 23-24 on opening day. The Astros managed just four hits against Padres pitching – singles by Michael Bourn and Mark Loretta and a double and single by Miguel Tejada, who was the key offseason addition to an offense that was among the worst in the NL last year. Bourn, acquired in a five-player deal that sent Brad Lidge to Philadelphia in November, was one of the few bright spots for the Astros. He went 1-for-3 with a walk, two steals and a terrific running catch in the outfield to save three runs. Oswalt couldn’t escape the sixth inning in his sixth consecutive opening day start. He gave up 11 hits and three runs and struck out six batters in 5 1/3 innings, failing to retire the Padres in order once. Much of the damage San Diego did against Oswalt came at the tail end of its batting order, where catcher Josh Bard, left fielder Paul McAnulty and Peavy went a combined 5-for-8 against Oswalt with two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk. Bourn showed a glimpse of what’s capable of doing when he led off the game with a single up the middle and stole second. Although Lance Berkman walked one out later, Bourn never made it past second base. The Padres managed consecutive one-out hits in the first against Oswalt, who struck out Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Hairston to end the inning. Oswalt threw 25 pitches in the first. San Diego managed two straight one-out hits again in the second, but this time took advantage. After Josh Bard doubled and Paul McAnulty singled, Peavy sent a long fly ball to left field that Carlos Lee caught at the warning track. Bard scored easily on the sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. Peavy, who called Oswalt days earlier to brag about a homer he hit in a spring training game, came within a few feet of hitting a home run off his close friend. Bard and McAnulty hurt Oswalt again in the fourth, each singling with one out. Peavy ripped a line drive single into left center, scoring Bard from second base to put the Padres ahead 2-0. San Diego took a 3-0 lead in the fifth when Tadahito Iguchi led off with a double, went to third on a grounder and scored on Adrian Gonzalez’s single up the middle. Oswalt was pulled after walking Peavy with one out in the sixth, and the Padres proceeded to load bases against Dave Borkowski. With two outs, Gonzalez hit a rocket that appeared headed for the gap in right center, but Bourn ran it down at the track to save three runs. San Diego went ahead 4-0 in the seventh on a pinch-hit single by Tony Clark off Brian Moehler. Wesley Wright came into the game after the hit and got Brian Giles to ground out in his major league debut. -
Bulldogs looking to make move in 22-4A race The Port Arthur News Tonight marks the end of the first half for district baseball. The biggest matchup for District 22-4A comes tonight when first place Vidor (6-0) meets second place Little Cypress-Mauriceville (5-1). Also tonight, Port Neches-Groves, which is tied in second with LC-M at 5-1, travels to Dayton (2-4) while the Nederland Bulldogs matchup with the Raiders in Lumberton. Nederland shutout Dayton 5-0 on Friday night to move to 3-3 in league play. The Dogs need a win over Lumberton and will hope for Vidor to continue its unbeaten streak by pulling out a victory over LC-M. Going into tonight's action, Nederland is two games back of the third and final playoff spot. The Dogs travel to Vidor on Friday while the Tribe takes on Ozen at the Reservation. All district contests are set for 7 p.m. A LC-M loss tonight and a win over Vidor on Friday would put Nederland right back in the thick of the district race. On the other hand, two losses this week would pretty much be the end of the Bulldogs hopes for a postseason berth. Memorial, meanwhile, has two road games this week. Both games are set to start at 6:30. The Titans play Humble tonight and Channelview Friday in District 21-5A action. In softball, Nederland and PN-G are still at the top of the District 22-4A pack. The Lady Dogs remained perfect as they took down Vidor on Friday night to move to 8-0. The Lady Indians beat Ozen Friday night and are now at 7-1. It's possible the Lady Tribe will be just a game behind Nederland when Friday's mid-county matchup rolls around. The Lady Dogs won the first contest 4-0 in Nederland. This time the two teams square off in Port Neches. Both teams are in action tonight, however. Nederland will host Central while PN-G has to travel to Mauriceville to play the Lady Bears. The Lady Indians came from behind to beat LC-M 7-6 in their first meeting, which came at the Reservation. If the Tribe can get past the Lady Bears, the stage will be set for Friday's showdown with Nederland.
