  1. If you didn't like the way coach Davis acted and you didn't mind the way the kid from Nederland acted than you are either blinde or dumb. Not to mention english had to discipline the kid for cussing at the opposing team after the game was over. Watch this thread disappear now P.S. We finally agree in something. Sutherland is indeed GOAT!
  2. I would also be intersted to see where Coach Davis criticized the other kid. I doubt you can find any proof of that.
  3. Poorly ran!!! Lol. The part you don't know is coach Davis has run that tournament since its inception. You should worry about the example you set by the way you act. Once you have that right then worry about others.
  4. Now i wonder if they will delete this topic for your public criticism of Coach Davis like they did when they talked about "the player" after the HJ tourney. I doubt it.
  5. You may think about critiquing the way you act in the stands before you critique a coach.
  6. Sutherland is a Hall of Fame coach no doubt. His record speaks for itself as does his impact on kids. However, to say that there has been a drop off after he leaves is just incorrect. At Kountze they won 2 state titles in 3 years after he left and have been a fixture deep in the playoffs. His last year two years at H-J they lost in the 2nd and 1st rounds of the playoffs and last year H-J was in the third round of the playoffs. When he left EC the first time I’m fairly certain they were in the hunt in the 2nd/3d round of the playoffs. Furthermore, at Kountze, EC and H-J you have 3 coaches who played for Sutherland at H-J (when he was an asst.)and one who played for him at EC and I believe Sutherland would be the first to tell you those guys all uphold the same standards that he does.
  7. Yes because HJ has always measured their success on district titles. Dumb!
  8. bmt science academy is 4a because uil rules state that charter schools will compete in the smallest classification of schools withintheir attendance zone...since ozen was 4a but opted up that puts bmt science academy in class 4a
  9. HJ was moved west to clevelands district. They didn't drop classifications.
  10. Fist of all, Angel is a fine player and will play college basketball somewhere. He’s a great young man with great character and a strong academic record. That being said, people fail to realize that recruiting is so much more than being good enough. Recruiting is about being good enough, fitting the need of the university, fitting the style of play of the coach, meshing with the coach, getting seen, and finally the coach deciding that the particular player is his number one target. So many coaches now are more concerned with fitting a particular physical profile as opposed to established skill set. Most coaches would rather a 6’4” freakishly athletic kid with potential over a 6’1” kid, not very athletic, and an already established skill set. Recruiting has changed to the point now that just playing AAU is not enough. If you want to get noticed, you have to play on the right team and lots of times that is not enough. You better be playing on a team that either has a player that is already being recruited or will play against players that are already being recruited. That’s the only guarantee to get seen on the summer circuit. Your AAU team can play in the biggest tournaments out there but, if you are off in some side gym the whole weekend then odds are you are not where the college coaches (DI at least) are.As for Angel being able to play at Lamar or Sam Houston, that is another mistake that lots of people make. Look at the Bosha kid from HJ for example. He is the school’s all time leading scorer, arguably one of the best to come through there and he is barely touching the floor at Lamar. On top of that, he is 6’5” and long and rangy. To say any kid should have already received offers at this point in their senior year is not accurate. Most smaller schools (NAIA, DII, DIII) will do the majority of their signings in the spring time of a player’s senior year. That is when those schools are most active. Heck, there are not a whole lot of schools period that are out recruiting heavily right now. It is the heart of conference play, they are only out there if scheduling works out.Recruiting is like selling a home. You can put your home on the market for $200,000 but, if the best offer you get is $150,000 then that is what the market says your house is worth. And if you don’t get any offers then unfortunately, then you may not sell your house.Angel has a great coach who, I have no doubt, is working very hard to help him in any way possible. People also must understand that the recruiting process is a group effort. It is not just the high school coach’s responsibility, it is not just the parent’s responsibility, nor is it just the AAU coach’s responsibility. It is everyone’s job to work together to do what is best for the kid and then let the chips fall where they may.
  11. Argue with you or agree with you. Wrong any way you go!
  12. It is already a wrap the cupboard is completely bare at HJ.
  13. They shouldn't be. Silsbee is leaps and bounds better than HJ.
  14. I was extremely impressed with Devon McCain. His attitude is great too.
  15. The point is that talent level doesn't always equal playoff victories. I was referring to the two teams silsbee has had that were arguably two of the most talented teams in the history of the school and one of the teams could be considered one of the most talented in the history of this area that lost in the first or second round.
  16. I think those are fair opinions. Only difference is sometimes your less talented teams go further in the playoffs than your more talented teams. Ask Silsbee.
  17. So just to be clear:-HJ's poor shooting was completely due to Silsbee's defense-HJ staying in the game after being down as many as 21 was only because Silsbee laid off-Silsbee's shooting in the second quarter was because Silsbee is just better-Silsbee's poor shooting from the 3 the rest of the game was because Silsbee laid off-Silsbee didn't win by 20 because they "slowed it down" in the second half-In summary, the outcome of last night's game had nothing to do with anything HJ was doing and only to do with what Silsbee did or didn't do
