1. Update? Panama should be much happier than last week....
2.

Barbers Hill 24 Crosby  17 Crosby has a very hard time in the Red Zone.
You are correct about the Red Zone. If we could play on a 60 yard field I would pick Crosby by 60 points, but since it is a 100 yard field I only picked them by 8.
Even though there is probably stiff competition in this category, I would have to say that this is the dumbest comment I've seen on this board.
3. I dont know why he did it though, next 2-3 years should be better than the previous. Makes the next HC job a bit easier. I think they should go outside the area to bring in a fresh perspective.
4. I hope BH can gain back some pride lost in past years. In regards to the youngest Sexton, he has the potential to be the best. Dale was vastly underused (dude could have been automatic 10+ yrd catches) and Joe.... nuff said.
5. TNT, some reading comprehension, I said they have no MORE than today's players, it was not hotter back in the day, kids did not hit harder, its simply that coaches could push much much more and the equipment sucked. (But many more kids are whiners nowadays) Also, I did the LB example to make a point, not to be exact. To be realistic, Chad Jones for LSU is 6'3 230+ and runs damn close to a 4.45, could you ever fathom this for a SAFETY 20 years ago? (Not to mention 93+ from the left!!) And yes you are right BH has nothing close to this. Mamich, Sylvia, and Harvey I should have remembered, they are locks. A friends dad said Garner was a beast, and Steck is in the hall of honor. Also, I am not trying to antagonize, rather trying to live in the past and not thing about the present state of BH football.
6. Yes I would say that I am biased, simply on the numbers, I.E. linebackers are now 6'4 250 running 4.75 whereas those would be linemen even 25 years ago. Also, outside of new restrictions on practices where coaches cannot treat players like they used to, players in years past did not have more heart or toughness, its just that there are MORE wusses now. The quality of equipment also takes away from the cuts and bruises. Just my opinion.
7. I edited to include '90, typo.... Gordon Speer is a brainfart, I guess the main problem is we never have those Elite athletes that distinguish themselves (outside of Kenny Robbins), are not eligible for college, or are too small for the big time schools (dolan, joe sexton). Honestly I can only vaguely remember Jeff Jones. I think there is a general bias towards more current players due to the athletic differences.
8. Hey guys, I would like some input on your all time team for 'dem Eagles! (or as far back as you can remember) Here's my list: (as you can tell it only goes so far back) QB:Northcutt, Daniels, Jabo? HB: Carrington... big time back from McGallion Era FB: Thurman Blake, McWilliams TE: Zach Tompson, Dale Sexton, guy from 95ish? WR: Priest? Fisher, Moore, Joseph Daniels OT: Marek, Robinson? Robinson OG:Aycock, C: Cannon Nose:Swart DT: ? DE:Cox, Dan Walsh (small but technically perfect) LB: Dolan, Joe Sexton, Byrd, CB:Patton, S: Sonnenberg, K:Jabo, Harvey P:Hargraves Ret:? What say ye? I think most would fall between 90 and 2007 because of the time differences in athletes and the quality of teams. There were always studs of course! Or direct me to the topic where this was discussed already.
9. This years freshman have always been pretty stout, plus you've got a McSwain and a Sexton, good history in those names.
10. Man tough year to have a tough schedule...... maybe they could continue the game till the 8th graders are on varsity!!!!!
11. Cameron Swart - BH Class of 2007 videos just go to youtube and search his name Barbers Hill grad takes national honors By Michael Pineda Baytown Sun Published March 2, 2008 MONT BELVIEU — Cameron Swart is a big fish in a little pond — literally. The 5-10, 290-pound weightlifter is once again dominating the 20-and-under super heavyweight division. At the National Junior Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., Swart took first place with a combined lift total of 345 kilos (759 pounds), easily outdistancing Caleb Ward of Wichita Falls who lifted 301 kilos (662 pounds). “There has been more competition in the past two years but everyone got older,†Swart said. It was the third consecutive national championship for Swart at the junior level and his sixth overall since he began to compete at the age of 11. Swart’s main competition now comes on the international stage. Currently ranked No. 2 in the world, he will be competing in the Junior World Championships in Cali, Columbia in June where he will look to become the first United States entry to medal since 2002. Tim Swords, Swart’s coach as well as a coach for the junior national team, feels that Swart is poised to not only medal but also break the national clean and jerk record of 202.5 kilos (446 pounds) held by Baytown Sterling graduate Josh Moreau. “He can break the record,†Swords said. “He is strong enough and athletic enough. He has gone from a talented athlete to the best in North and South America and I think he will medal in Columbia.†Last December at the American Open, Swart came close to breaking the clean and jerk record only to see his lift of 203 kilos (447 pounds) slip out of his hand. Swart also had the opportunity to compete in the Junior World Championships in Prague, a city in the Czech Republic. Swart finished fifth and learned what it will take to become one of the best in the world. “It’s pretty intense,†Swart said. “There is a lot of competition. It’s fun but it’s the world level so you can’t go out there and joke around. “I was really pleased with how I did. I could’ve finished third, but I missed some of my lifts.†Swart is a freshman at Lee College, where he attends classes in the mornings and then works out in the afternoon. Three times a week, he travels to League City for Olympic lifting. On Tuesdays and Thursdays he works out at Eagle Pointe in Mont Belvieu, where he focuses on the upper body and stomach. Since graduating last fall, Swart has added 30 pounds to his frame. This will be the last year that Swart will compete at the junior level. In 2009, he will begin competing at the senior level where he will work towards his next goal. “If I keep progressing, I should make the 2012 Olympics in London,†Swart said.
12. BH has ALOT of money as well..... up there with Lake Travis P.S. BH is the only school in the country with lap-tops for each student from 12 through 7th? grade
13. This is the most ludacris thing I have ever seen, yes BH was underpar this year but were essentially two plays (one even officially ruled illegal by the UIL after reviewing the film, i.e. smiley) from being the number two team in the district, but to have a BH LINEMAN (line was atrocious) as the lone first teamer and having last years 1st team all state linebacker on second team?! hahaha if you watched a game you would know that EVERY PLAY he was double-teamed, YES a LB DOUBLE TEAMED EVERY SINGLE DOWN. Equally for Andrew little, unfathomable to be on second team . IMO those two are the only ones to deserve a 1 or 2 team spot. I know "to the victor...." and that crap, but seriously come on. I know this stuff means very little to us but to the kids it means at least something. And if I was Joe or Andrew I would feel SERIOUSLY DISRESPECTED by the district. Ok I feel better now, but if you watched this district you know at least 3 things: BH offense = Little, no line, dropped passes, and Carmona trying his best; BH Defense = what defense, secondary burnt, d-line allowing 3 linemen to the 2 linebackers (Cannot do this in the 5-2, lbs need to be freed up) and for the lb's the frosh looked good, and Joe as one of BH"S best 3 (dolan, sprout) but simply could not approach what he did last year. AND finally GP was a one man show, seriously. P.S. Please don't send me PM's about ripping the kids, I know them all and they know me, they know what went wrong and hopefully their youth will allow them to be better next year. Or progress 'till the 8th grade team gets there........... haha
14. Sexton returning to form after ankle injury By Michael Pineda Baytown Sun Published October 4, 2007 Every team has one guy that has to be game planned for. Joe Sexton is that guy for Barbers Hill. The senior linebacker is the most decorated returning starter this season among area teams. In the past two years, Sexton has been named all-district defensive player of the year twice as well as a 4A All-State selection. Sexton’s 2007 campaign got off to a slow start because of a high ankle sprain that left him less than 100 percent in the first three games of the season. Now the senior is at 100 percent and ready to take on Crosby, the first serious contender to wrest away the Eagles’District 21-4A title. “We’ve had good practices so far and we have a good feel for them,†Sexton said of the Cougars. “Coach has done a good job preparing us for them. This game will determine if we play for the district title. Last year it determined the district title.†In the 2006 meeting at Crosby, the Eagles walked out with a 10-0 victory over the Cougars. Barbers Hill went on to claim the district title and Crosby finished second in the district with a 6-1 record. Barbers Hill is once again poised to make a run at a district title after a slow start. The Eagles fell to Jasper after narrowly defeating Wharton in the season opener at Pearland. A win over Bellville provided momentum to a young Eagle team that is only starting to learn how to spread its wings. “I thought we would come together when district started,†Sexton said. “Everybody was saying we wouldn’t be as good as last year, but we’re always going to be good. We’ve come a long way right now and I think we’re pretty good. “We all just came together in the Bellville game. A lot of young guys saw we could do anything if we set our mind to it.†With only three starters returning this season, Sexton has been in the trenches and earned his stripes. “We designate captains every Friday, but there is no doubt Joe is a leader on the field,†Barbers Hill head coach Don Price said. “It’s a calming effect, kind of like a security blanket. There is a comfort zone for the team and the coaches. He is one of those guys that plays bigger then he is. They don’t have anything to measure his heart or his perseverance.†Sexton is undersized at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds. He makes up for his lack of size with speed (4.6 forty) and a nose for the ball. Despite playing at five pounds less than he did last season, Sexton has not suffered a drop off in his performance other than his ankle injury. Now that he is playing at full strength, there is nothing that Sexton would like more than a repeat performance from last season, a win over Crosby. “They have improved some, but so have we,†Sexton said. “We can’t give up big plays and we have to watch out for trick plays. “A great performance would be a shutout, but we want a win.â€
15. HMMMMMM...... where does 146 get his info from?!!! ;) ;) :D
16. For some reason I do agree with the idea that WOS does get overly defensive when they are opposed, yes they are more traditionally know statewide for football, yes they do have very talented teams........ however when BH loses we for the most part eat our crow and accept it, for example when Huffman beat WOS I recall a not so acceptive response. Given these apparent theories I truthfully believe that, as I stated last year, someone from BH would never be envious of WOS, or any other school in the state for that matter. Yes we showcase our accomplishments because we value our year in year out district championships in an average of 13 out of 15 sports, along with our academia and arts. WOS IS PROFICIENT IN MAINLY 1 SPORT, granted, BH IS ONE OF THE TOP 10 SCHOOLS IN TEXAS. I have no hate for WOS, they have a good program, but we are both proud schools, and like to make known our pride. Yes we will have arguements, but we are very similar in our reasons, its like arguing with a cousin!
17. Well at least BH did NOT look as bad as last year! From the stands it looked like the BH coaches were yelling at the ref about clipping in the backfield, then Hooks got all fired up, apparently about the penalty (odd because is was blatent) but thats just what it appeared like from way up. Also, Dale said Joe's ankle dont look too bad, wont play this week for safety prolly, but should be back next Monday or so.
18. Sexton's brother said that Joe is in touch with various schools in the area and outside as well (he mentioned UNLV)..... told me a funny story about Northwestern (Big 10) actually wanting him last year until Joe told them he was a Junior! I believe he's at the LSU camp this weekend.
19. Talked to a freind last night, guess who's on the BH 7th grade team last year....... the youngest Sexton! I just hope the Eagles can play strong enough D to help the Offense out this year.
20. Hmm..... Maybe the 1st team 4a all state player???? BH's Sexton!!
