  1. I agree with this a 100%. When Port Arthur schools merged participation went down. I can't count the number of times I have been in the gym and seen 5 or six kids 6'5 or better on the court at the same time in open gym. In rec league you have 6 teams and everyone of them has a big. Then when the season comes 1 maybe 2 play for the school. My comment in the other post about hiring the wrong coach wasn't a dig at a particular coach or coaches it's was about knowing the community and seeing the lack of participation / support that came from the hire.
  2. Spoiler alert close your eyes and cover your ears.
  3. Congratulations to Coach Grammer and The WARRIORS. As I mentioned a while back, Legacy has a very good young coach who is a incredible person. He loves basketball and cares tremendously about helping boys become responsible men. And basketball is the tool he uses. Through a rough start he and his team kept the faith, grew to know each other and it's paid off. Good luck in the playoffs.
  4. The kid has a very good skill set and a great feel for the game. Because of his potential for growth (physically ). When he gets to college if he's in the right situation and puts in the work he can be special.
  5. I'm a Memorial fan and what I've seen of Scarborough they can not beat Silsbee if Silsbee plays @ 70% of their capability. Moten is the only threat. The big man who starts for Scarborough has nice hands and decent footwork but is too slow and lumbering to be a factor. The PG will end up on the bench like he did against Memorial. The other wing player is decent skill wise, but foot slow also. And the other big man is an athlete BUT not a basketball player. That is not enough to beat Silsbee.
  6. If Scarborough is the same team ( team color orange and gray) that played in the YMBL and Gamble tournaments down here they don't stand a chance against Silsbee. They have one outside player and their big man will be overmatched.
  7. Sabine Pass won; not sure of score I think 61-50.
  8. Nederland by 15 maybe 20 depending on the pace of the game.
  9. Some time it's just not your day. WOS made some mistakes, maybe some of the play calling could have been more aggressive BUT that Pleasant Grove team was extremely good, very well coached and they deserved to win today. I think WOS ran into a larger version of themselves and couldn't WILL their way to a victory. They gave a hell of an effort and NEVER QUIT.
  10. Per the Port Arthur News Twitter : SP 55 HF 40. Final
  11. To build a program it takes time, patience, work and belief. The coach has to have time (contract wise ) to implement his systems ( discipline, workout program , scheme, strategy). The parents have to have patience to understand this is a process and you don't normally go from the bottom to the top in 1 or 2 years. It is incremental you have to accept small steps like: better effort, better execution, more knowledgeable play. The kids have to learn how to work, then put in the work. They have to start to believe once they start to believe then they can learn how to win. Once you believe you can win and learn how to win then you expect to win. Based on available talent, level of work put in during off season, and teaching of the game the first winning class may only be 7th or 8th graders right. Which brings into play how well all this trickles down to your Jr High program.
