  1. Wow, let em have it. I agree with much of what you said, especially about Torres. He was one of the few bright spots against Costa Rica, what did he do to get in the dog house. He is one of the few Americans with any technical flare. So much of our team is just power, athleticism and speed. You have to be able to do something with the ball at your feet. Also, Egypt completely out possessed us, hold the ball for long periods in the midfield. If they would of finished just one of their chances, Bradley and crew would be on their way home. However, it was nice to see us win on and not embarrass ourselves, even if it was with a lot of luck.
  2. ;D The 93 Spindletop Girls take a commanding lead on the 1st day of the STYSA Presidents Cup round robin play, with 19 points! They beat Celtic Classic 5-0 and Lonestars Blue 2-0. Looks like another trip to the Presidents Cup Regional's for this team. Congratulations girls.
  3. ;D Congratulations to the girls 93 Spindletop Select Red team for qualifying for the STYSA Presidents Cup final. The won their group and lost 0-1 to the Challenge in the EDDOA U-16 finals. They will compete for the STYSA title May 23rd and 24th at Lindsay Lions. Good luck to these young ladies and props for representing SE Texas soccer! 4. No. They never look to the east. I don't know why they consider Brenham "part of Greater Houston", but Brenham seems to be more a part of Houston than us. Not that that's a bad thing. I'm just saying don't dis the kid that got the award, he didn't pick himself. Name and boost the kids you think are of the same quality. In out area there are at least 2 kids that are in the same caliber as Bett's and that's Lumberton's Poole and Kelly's Stockie.
  5. TASCO has not made its All-State Selections yet. Kelly had 4 players with All-State honors from TAPPS. Nathan Stockie, SR. GK 1st Team Zach Clarke, JR. MD 2nd Team Hunter Allen, JR. DEF 2nd Team Terrell Roane, JR. MD, Honorable Mention.
  6. Yeah, right, multiple all district honors, lead his team to finals last year and semi's this year, plays in the USSF Academy league, signed a D1 college scholarship! Players of this quality are a dime a dozen. Every school in our area has a dozen of them, Just look at the Beaumont Enterprise Gold team for 11 or 12 player better. How many games did you see this young man play?
  7. Saw this on the TAPPS web site. All-State honors for the District Champion and Regional finalist Kelly Bulldogs: 1st Team All-State Nathan Stockie, Sr. Goalkeeper 2nd Team All-State Hunter Allen, Jr. Defense Zach Clarke, Jr. Forward Honoralble Mention Terrell Roane, Jr. Mid-field Congrats. boys Link: [Hidden Content] Coach: Who were your all district players? And isn't that the 2nd or 3rd time your keeper has won state honours? I know you are proud of these boys and how much they accomplished this year. Wish I could have gotten to more games. Good luck for next year. I hear 2nd hand that your off-season program is the best its ever been at Kelly.
  8. Link to the Dallas Cup competition. [Hidden Content] Looks like Scott Poole's Dallas Texans Red-Houston is in the U-17 B Group and get to play a youth team of the Mexican 1st Division Club Futbol Monterrey. Nathan Stockie's Texans SC U-18 Academy play in the U-19 A group and get a game against an English side called Knowsley Youth. I would think that both these boys are getting their 1st taste of international soccer representing not only their clubs, but indirectly their schools and SE Texas soccer. I also believe both of them are former Spindletop Select players. Good luck guys!
  9. Are any local player's participating in the Dallas Cup. This most is one of the most prestigious International youth tournaments in the US. It is a great honour to be invited. There are usually international teams spread throughout the brackets. Last year MK's (Univ. of Denver) Dynamo Academy team won the U-19 bracket and SP (Lumberton) U-16 team (92 Texans FC Red) won their bracket, although I hear w/o SP. Is SP 92 Texans FC going back and will SP be playing? How about NS's (Kelly) 91 TSC team or ZC's (Kelly) 92 TSC team. I believe teams have to be invited to get to play.
  10. Club soccer is really where most of college opportunities come from and is really where the best soccer is, however we have had great players from this area move from club to college to the pro under relative obscurity (its not football or basketball). High school seems to provide the only social and community recognition for the hard work and accomplishments of these players. I know my kids really enjoy the recognition they get from classmates, teachers, the press on rare occasion, and others during their playoff runs. You can win a state, regional maybe a national club title nobody cares except for parents and teammates, while these accomplishment are usually tougher to achieve than a district or regional school title. Last years spindletop girls are great example of this. It was a great accomplishment making it to the regional finals of the Presidents Cup. Clearly a more impressive feat than a 3A or 4A district title, but really except for the folks on this board, not much splash. So high school soccer can really provide some outside positive reinforcement for all the hard work these kids put in.
  11. The only time I have ever seen a college coach at a high school game was for the Klien Highschool Showcase of Champions. There were a number of D3 coaches there and a couple of years ago the US Military Academy coach was there. Sorry raider, but soccer is a finacially poor sport in college. They are not coming to Lumberton to see one maybe 2 prospects play when they can go to a college showcase tournment or the Dallas Cup and see hundreds of better players at one place than they would ever see at a high school game. To see the difference, go watch young Mr. Poole's club team play. They are one of the best U-17's in the state.
  12. Lumberton has a very tough draw. Brenham along with being a finalist last year has at least 5 or 6 Division 1 club players and one that plays in the USSF Academy. I know at least one player is committed to a D1 college in Georgia. A lot of very serious soccer players on that squad. I wish them luck. The Raiders will need to be their best when they play.
  13. Her training and exposure during her year with Texas's best club for girls (the Challenge) probably did more to get her on a college recruiting list than any of her years with the fillies. And besides, it is a rare talent to be able to finish when you get your opportunities, no matter how the ball gets to your foot.
  14. Any report on the game. I heard it was 0-0. Kind of curious since Kelly took them 3-0 at home. Also could use a report on the 1-0 win at St. Thomas. That's an awesome result. It's been a year or so since Kelly has beaten them.
  15. Congrats. It's since local product, and current U. of Denver player MK that this area has been represented in the ODP pool.
  16. Kelly - Jr. Midfielder ZC and Sr. GK NS. Both these young men should play play at the next level.
  17. So who is going to add to this list this year? We have Greenway from Vidor going to DII Delta State University, who else is working the recruiting trails?
  18. Who are the players that this area has sent to the college ranks? Here are the one's I know.... Arnaud - West Texas A& M, Nederland HS, KC Wizards Watson - New Mexico, Nederland HS, KC Wizards Smith - Coker College, West Brook Kirby, U. of Denver, Kelly Waldrup - UT-Tyler, Lumberton Durden - San Jac/HBU, Kelly
  19. ;D Kelly beat St. Pius last night 3-0, with an offensive burst from last years goalie. He scored 1, assisted with 1 and made the cross that created the St. Pius OG. I guess the coach's gamble payed off as he pulled the areas best goalie out of the net for a crucial district game and started a freshman in between the sticks. Soph. MC had the 1st goal and Junior ZC had an assist with the 3rd goal. The defense lead by Senior BA and Junior HA limited St. Pius's opportunities all night long. Kelly also got a solid performance out of Freshman goalie WL. Not sure what shark was thinking last night, but it worked. Kelly is now 2-0 in district with a chance to turn this season around!
  20. ;D Local product Davy Arnaud (Kansas City Wizards) just got called up to the National team for the World Cup qualifier with Guatemala along with Dynamo forward Brian Ching and mid-fielder Ricardo Clark. [Hidden Content]
  21. Congrats. Keep us posted on how it goes. What conference do they play in and how are they doing this year?
  22. How many players are missing due to football?
  23. Here is a report on teams that I think have SE Texas players on them, playing above the Rec + level (Division II). Girls U-13 Spindletop Red, 5th place Competitive Bracket (EDDOA rank 11) U-14 Spindletop Red, 6th place Competitive Bracket (EDDOA rank 12) U-16 Spindletop Red, 4th place Classic Bracket (EDDOA rank 4) U-18 Challange Clash, 6th place Classic Bracket (EDDOA rank 6) Boys U-15 Dallas Texans Houston Red, 3rd place Classic Bracket (EDDOA rank 3) U-17 DTH Black, 4th place Classic Bracket (EDDOA rank 4) U-17 DTH Red, 1st place Classic Bracket (EDDOA rank 1) U-17 Texas Soccer Club, 2nd place Classic Bracket (EDDOA rank 2) U-18 TSC USSF Academy Team, 1st place Texas Division, Central Conference UT-Tyler, NCAA, DIII, 1st place American Southwest Conference, Regular Season Conference Champs!! Univ. Denver, NCAA DI, 1st place Mountain Pacific Sport Federation. Looks like our college boys are contributing to teams having some real success. It also looks like some of our players are having some real success in EDDOA and above. Its also good to see Spindletop well represented in the Girls EDDOA brackets. Hopefully they can start to build something on the boys side. All standings are as of 11.07.08
  24. ;D Something positive, post Ike. It looks like Waltrip and Kirby have made thier 1st starts for thier respective colleges. Brent got his 1st start this week in a conference win against Mississippi College, and Matt got his start a couple of weeks ago in a 2-3 loss to Loyola Chicago. Congratulations guys, way to represent SE Texas soccer.
  25. A quick review of the EDDOA scheduling web site is sure discouraging for our local soccer talent. Especially on the boys side. Only one boys team is testing themselves out of the area. and that is a U-12 team. The Spindletop boys are completely absent from EDDOA and Super 2 competition. Congratulations to the U-16 Spindletop Girls for qualifying for the EDDOA Classic bracket and to the U-14 Spindletop Girls for making the Competitive bracket. Were are Jr. high and high school aged boys playing. I know we have a couple at TSC and DTHD but were are the rest. If I were a high school coach, I would be concerned. Soccer talent needs development from an early age. Unlike football, you can't just show up in highschool with a little speed and coordination and expect to be good. The college season just started. Does anyone know how Waltrip UT-Tyler and Kirby U. Denver are doing? Do we have any other local college players to follow?
